Thing #1 of bike hooks and racks: if you don’t buy one made to hold ‘bicycles’, but instead one made to hold literally anything else it’ll be about 1/3 the price
I've mounted my old road bike handlebar reversed against the wall as the ultimate bike holder! All you need is a piece of tubing and a tube mount piece to get enough clearing from the wall. The handlebar tape even protects the bike paint. I've even mounted a saddle under the bars to make it resemble a wall "trophy". Best bike hack I ever pulled off!
I always disassemble my bike to its individual components so I can simply store it in my kitchen drawers (I store the frame and wheels under my bed). It took me a long time at first, especially rerouting all the internal cables and adjusting the brakes and derailleurs after removing the fork and handlebars, but now it only takes me about five minutes to completely take it apart or build it back up again.
I live with Roommates and in my 15.5 foot x 10 foot room, I have three complete bikes and a frameset hung on my walls. My Raleigh Macaframa track bike hung by Cycloc Hero Mount, my Specialized Langster single speed, hung by a MaxFind system, and my Diamond Back Podium by a Gootus. All are 3 point pedal hangers and they work a treat. The frameset is just hung with some cheap steel wall mounted coat hangers ($8.00 US).
Haha I was looking for someone to validate my crazyness. My room is a little bigger but I have 4 bikes, 2 frames and too many wheelsets... and I never hit or band into any of this crap. Feels like a workshop or museum (all but one are vintage).
@@KarlosEPM 100% validated, I had 4 complete bikes on the floor for almost a year, trying to line them up in a corner, but, they were always in the way, a stop at my LBS for something else turned me on to wall hangers, and I have never looked back.
I store my bikes hanging on the wall. An option not mentioned are hooks that grab one of the pedals. It typically results in a bike with the wheels against the wall, leaning outwards. It will typically look pretty cool because it's not easy to see the hook when the bike is on the wall. But I recommend having something that helps keep the bike level, I have a pair of shallow shelves for putting pictures on, one below each wheel.
In my one-room, 20 square meter apartment, I've managed to squeezed in two bikes. One hangs gracefully on the wall (Mona Lisa is nothing in comparison), secured by a front wheel hook, while the second one, I have on my indoor trainer. Who says small spaces can't accommodate big passions!?
Thanks, Manon. Good video. There are lots of options out there as shown in this YT video. I installed one that is similar to one of the first one you showed at the 0:25, except mine has a small, flat storage area on the part that extends from the wall. I use that storage area to store my helmet and gloves. I don't understand why most wall mount bike racks don't have storage for your helmet or gloves, but at least I found one that does. To prevent my handlebars from turning left or right, I use a piece of velcro to attach the front wheel to the frame so it stays straight.
Etsy has some beautiful all wood and metal arm/attachment rack that look much better than Topeak-esque ones. I got mine for about $60 (vs the 200+ one Rouleur was selling). Matches my loft style very nicely
I have the two bikes I usually ride leaning against the wall in my breakfast nook. They overlap handlebars and take little space. As they are obscured by a partial wall, I can only see them when I'm in the room. I had a fancy wall stack rack, but it made the bikes much too prominent in my current apartment. While I might not always get away with this, it works for me. Deciding where can be more important than how, IME.
Thanks Manon and crew...I have a stand alone , 2 bike , bike stand , that cradles the top tube like the topeak one ...but of course , I have 3 bikes, the other one sits on my trainer , or hangs from a hook off a beam .
I also use these (I have five, so 10 bikes stored on them!) but only two bicycles on each one. I think adding two additional mounts would not be very practical--having bikes on both sides means they would interfere with each other. As far as stability goes: no issues. There are other brands besides Topeak, such as Swagman, and I paid a lot less.
After every ride you should be disassembling it for a degrease and wash anyway! After it's cooled off from the dishwasher, you can store it as parts carefully in foam lined storage crates that slide under your bed and reassemble it in the morning before your no-drop sunrise gran fondo. Keeps like new!
I live in a small 500 sq feet apartment and have three dropper bikes stored using clugs. They only come as far out from the wall as the saddle and, thanks to 38cm handlebars the three bikes only take up a metre of wall. A big bonus for renters is that the weight of the bike is supported by the rear wheels and therefore there's no need to find the stud to put the two small screws into. Very east to use a small amount of caulk, or filler, to cover the hole when you move out with damage deposit intact.
Look for end of line brands or other systems from your hard wear stores that are on special. When I worked at one I bought lots for quarter the price. If using the large hook types some extra tape or foam will help. Make sure you are securing any mounting system into a wall stud or wall anchor.
Can you revisit this for normal people who have one or two of every kind of bike. I would like to see your take on how to maximize storage in small places for say like 5 or 6 bikes to start with........... PLEASE
tip. if you run out of walls and ceiling space to store all of your bikes, simply do without the shop bought coffee and the avocado and toast mid morning snack and just buy another house.
I'm just working out how to store my bikes better, some in the shed there's some in the spare bedroom and a couple in the kitchen. I need one of those carpet roll elevators/conveyors you see in a big carpet warehouse 😂😂😂😂 thanks for the tips, definitely handy!
I used to store a bike leaning on the bannister at the top of the stairs but I got fed up of hauling it up four flights of stairs. I put a hook on the wall so I would use 3 flights of stairs but didn't like the look. I changed to a folding bike and just lean it against the wall. That hook now holds a coat and my folded up trailer. I have a shelf with bike pump etc and helmets go on small hooks. I'm adding two more for my panniers and knapsack. I also got space in a shared bike hangar on my street for another bike. I ride daily and ever since I had then experience of dealing with a broken arm, I want bike access without hauling bikes up and down stairs. If my arms don't feel up to it then I can go to the bike hangar other days just haul a bike down.
I had this exact problem. Small space, multiple bikes and all the conventional solutions didn’t fit the space. Narrow, under stairs cupboard with the door on the side rather than the end. Too narrow for wall mount as there isn’t the space to step back. It’s only possible to get bikes in and out on their rear wheel and door is slightly narrower than the handlebars of two the bikes. Road bike & BMX: I fitted an artificial beam, at wheel height under the slope with two Hornit Clugs on. Road bike and BMX clip in there, with handlebars slightly overlapping. However this means there is nothing supporting the rear wheels (because of the slope) so cupboard added to stop the wheels slipping (and bonus storage). But I don’t entirely trust the Clugs not to drop the bikes, so curtain pole with heavy duty hanging straps fitted which I hook through the wheels as a load bearing backup (can’t reach straps at the Clugs). Hardtail: Immediately in front as the door to the space is opened, opposite end to the road bike and BMX. Handlebars rather than wheel to the wall on the side because there isn’t enough width to turn the bike so need the handlebars nearest to the door. Handlebars are supported using a pair of ladder hooks with pipe insulation padding. Unicycle: Artificial beam added to the ceiling but had to be mounted on the walls due to plasterboard (and beam at 45° due to structural elements above the door). Fitted with a bike hook and the unicycle hangs above the hardtail (they only just clear each other). Surprisingly this setup left enough space to add in other wheeled items. Stunt scooter: In the space under the handlebars of the hardtail. Resting on the floor with a hook supporting the handlebars so it doesn’t fall. Kickbike: This is the only one that is stored with the front wheel removed due to space. Frame, forks and handlebars are on the wall opposite the door, tucked in behind the hardtail and BMX (where the width of their handlebars means the frame is away from the wall). Rear wheel is supported using a bike hook and frame is supported using a ladder hook. Front wheel hangs from the curtain pole that the BMX and road bike use. All of them are positioned such that handlebars are towards the door because otherwise it’s impossible to get them in and out. I do need to move the hardtail first to get either the BMX or Kickbike out. But they fit.
Get Ikea Kallax shelves to suit your needs and build up from 4x1, 4x2, 4x3 (long enough for bike and to whatever height you require) and sit bike on top. Storage done and free bike storage. I can provide photos. ;)
We live in an apartment on the second floor in the centre of Amsterdam. I have a folding road bike which fits in the cupboard under stairs easily. It's an Airnimal Joey folding bike, got it from Cambridge.
A hook to hang the bike by the front wheel is cheap and space effective. But it has to be mounted on a wall stud in order to be sturdy. If you can't find the stud or there is none at the right place, get a 2X4 of sufficient length so that it sits on the floor and is bolted with an anchor hook (butterfly type is best) at the top. Then mount the hook to this piece of wood. The weight of the bike will be largely transferred to the 2X4 resting on the floor and a small footing can be attached for increased stability. Alternatively, slide a rubber doormat under the 2X4 and it will provide some grip on the floor in addition to protecting the floor from a wet bike.
Thanks for sharing some DIY tips 🙌 It's super important that you make sure the strength of the wall is good enough and that you don't have any wires behind the wall 👀
If you're in a 2nd fl apartment w/a balcony, I can tell you where NOT to store it. A friend stored her bike out on her balcony. Unfortunately, while she was out of town for the Holidays, someone climbed up in the dark and stole her bike! I never wouldn't thought anyone would be that bold. If you do this, secure your bike to the balcony w/a U-lock. She didn't.

I am thinking of buying a road bike but never use it (because the roads in my area are not suitable for a road bike) and instead having it on my living room just for display. Is that a good idea?
Looked at several wall mount systems and ended with a very cheap and simple "pedal-hook" where you hang your bike via one of the pedals. The wheels touch the wall, which might be a problem for some applications, but not this specific one. Total cost less than 10€. And the mount is virtually invisible when the bike is on the wall.
It goes without saying that a mucky bike needs washed after a rainy ride before bringing it in, but what about drying it post-wash on said rainy day? Are there any better solutions than just leaving it to drip on the tiles/lino?
Find the right balance points for hanging a bike flat on a ceiling hoist set-up. Low ceilings not necessarily an issue. ❤ Why don't they make foldable wheels. That would be helpful.
I use a bike hanger that hangs my bike from its pedal. It is easily the most discreet and occupies the least-used triangular volume of space high up on my wall. These types of hangers are also great for ‘stacking’ bikes up a wall. The only minor concern I’ve had is if a bike is very front- or rear-heavy, but there are lots of simple ways to remedy the imbalance.
If someone hasn't already mentioned it, ensure that if you attach hooks or specially designed mounts that you secure these to solid points on the walls or ceiling, in other words timber joists or stud partion timber! Most modern homes are lined with plaster board which will not support too much weight without the fixings and your bikes departing their mounts and falling on you or family or other 'precious' items like the wife!!!!😂😂😂😂 I personally use a few bike work stands in my "man cave" to hang my bikes! Easily moved when needed.😁😁😁
HA! Reminded me of a time we stored MTB's in the bedroom of a tiny apartment on a lean-against-the-wall double rack. After a ride through a field near a water buffalo dairy...first stop HAD to be the coin-op car wash for a (gentle) spray-off! Yuck!!
Keep it as clean as possible and away from "their" or shared space. And try to keep up your fitness!! They won't complain if you are sizzling hot for them to enjoy 😊
Manon: How To Store Your Bike In Small Spaces! Uh, Manon, the only person who goes to prison with a bicycle is the warden . . . AFTER watching GCN videos of riding to work!
I hear you! If I hung mine from the ceiling I’d probably be found hanging from there too. Also a big NONO from the missus with floor to ceiling racks. We actually have one for our kids’ bikes when they were little. Now it hangs clothes and bags 😅 I’ve given up trying to reclaim it and the space. My bike has official refugee status, moving to and from rooms when we have guests over in our apartment. If I can solve this storage headache I can probably justify a second bike.

Umm, there is another option: a narrow shelf where the wheels sit and the pedal is hooked to the wall with a 3d printed hook. I have like this 2 bikes in a single room: road bike above the TV and MTB above the couch.
My problem is I have a baby coming in next few weeks where ever I put it will be a nightmare. Need the cupboard for suitcases and baby stuff . And inside the flat it be in the way somewhere

Yes, we need a video from Manon on how to deal with non-cycling partners and storing bikes indoors 😂
Keep it as clean as possible and away from "their" or shared space. And try to keep up your fitness!! They won't complain if you are sizzling hot for them to enjoy 😊
@@KarlosEPM I could be a male supermodel and my wife still wouldn't accept a bike stored in the house 😁
Just tell how much does it actually cost
@@dmitry.gashko that could go one of two ways - either very well (bike comes indoors) or very badly (divorce) 🤣
Would love to share how I store my bikes but the uploaded is not working!
soon... soon...
Manon: How To Store Your Bike In Small Spaces!
Uh, Manon, the only person who goes to prison with a bicycle is the warden . . . AFTER watching GCN videos of riding to work!
I have the same wheels on my bike!
Great choice 👌
The main issue I have with mount the bike on wall is the handle bar width…especially the MTB…
My wife was listening as I watched this and was saying "no" many times through out. LOL.
Hahahah there is a happy middle ground we're sure 😉
when you have a 10k bike and small living space you have your priorities wrong 😂
I have that topeak and it's flimsy. There is no way you can get it under tension without damaging your ceiling, unless you have full concrete ceiling.
The Potter cubby actually turned out alright!
2:06 - I enjoyed the disclaimer. haha and Its amazing how we live in a world that needs to be idiot proof because there will be some darwin award winners that lack common sense.
When I need to store my bike in a small space or travel with it I just put it in the wash... it shrinks it just like it does my bib shorts!
Honey... I shrunk the bikes 😳
Is it okay to store a bike with hyraulic brakes vertically?
we've heard of people having problems doing this, then heard of people having no problems!
You could also buy a Bike Friday Pocket Rocket folding roadbike.
We love a folding bike! Why not make it an off road folding bike 👉ruclips.net/video/_aXEpFo3FZ0/видео.html
Lol more sponsors in the end, it takes a rocket scientist to figure out how to store your bike 😂😂
No offense Manon but thanks
For some people it can be a real headache trying to figure out how to store bikes in small city apartments. It can even put people off cycling 👀We are always trying to get more people on bikes, videos like this should help 🙌 We're super lucky to be supported by some great sponsors, they allow us to make videos like this
@@gcntech totally get the business point of things, you need to survive with the sponsors you have but too of it is like mixing way too sugar until you get sick of it
Am sure your stats will not lie to you as your videos viewership is not as great as before..
You guys are former pros using pro sponsorship products and services
You built your brand strong enough GCN that should give more great content like before as you have the numbers. It's Global Cycling Network not Global Pro Cycling Network
Why I still watch your channel, really used to like the great stuff ❤️
I clean my chain weekly. It needs lubricant, so I don't clean that off after every use.
I recommend a banana berry smoothie as opposed to a coffee😅
Well... You haven't seen a small room yet, I think. 😉
Excellent idea I'll hang my bike on the ceiling over my bed...
It can be disassembled to gain more space
I put my bike in my shower, it's nice because i rarely use my shower.
The problem is that, for me, my bike is beautiful, but my wife does not share the same point of view.
My bike never needs storage, I'm always on it, 24/7. I sleep on downhills and wake up for the climbs🚴🏾♂️🚴🏾♂️🚵🏾♀️
that is some skillset you have!
Meanwhile I just keep an Allen key near the front door and turn the handlebars sideways.
👏👏
GCN in red, Hank is blue
i have 12 bikes in a 1 bedroom apartment...half of my living room is occupied by my bikes...LOL
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thinking a good and safe way to store the bicycle would be to tie it with the National flag on the top of the 75 foot high flag pole.
😂
Vertical solution in time is worst solution for hidraulic brakes
Just bought a seventh bike. It won't fit anymore. Another one is going to have to go
Noooo! This tips must mean you can keep some?
@@gcntech 7 bikes is just too much and they have to compete with my other hobbies ;).
Damn…..there was a BLEEP…. What was the word missed?
Another filler video to plug the pricey cleaning kit. Also if anyone is planning on mounting bikes to walls or hanging them from the ceiling, make sure what you are fixing it to can support the weight and know what's behind any surface you are drilling into !
Or sell that dogma, you could buy a mansion for that, with plenty of space for bikes.
It will be a talking point? What are we triathletes?
Or buy Brompton 😁
(Looks at my 5 bikes)
That's it? Not much info... Better vids out there...
that is a low effort video. common guys you are better than this.
A lot of advertisement going on here
135 views 3 minutes... channel fell off
WOW girl! Adapt-a-Cupboard. Brilliant - DUH! to me.
