I think he could be wrong about the London Painting of Sunflowers was painted before the Amsterdam . Just because Van Gogh painted over the background in the London painting and did not in the Amsterdam means nothing . I know that when I paint it can be an afterthought to add something on top of the background wet on wet or on purpose cant prove which one was done first .
The theory is that he made a mistake with the first painting and in the second one he just did it correct first time. It's very clear to me the Curator is right.
