I'm a city carrier technician t6 in Queens, NY. Been with the post office for 8 years. Before the post office, I went to college and got my Bachelors in history, working security while going to school. Before college, I served 17 years in the US Army with two combat tours. Also, another federal job that doesn't carry a weapon is TSA.
Not to mention we get treated unfairly not only from our employers but costumers too, because of how the postal service has been, not enough employ late mail, misdelievered mail During covid in our are we had a 70 year city carrier forced to retire because they said he was a liability. He tried to fight foe his job saying it was is only income so sad
I have two I try to avoid on one of the routes I cover. With one of them, to avoid putting the building code, and having the buzzer go off, i got a key from management. So, i try to put the key in the door quietly. Same with the postal key in the mailbox. I use the stealth training I learn in the army. Alot of times, I'm in and out without she hearing me. But the times she catches me, she talks me to death. The other one, i can't avoid him. He gets so many certified letters and registered letters, i have to ring his bell.
Armed security in Afghanistan for $110k is low. The were other companies paying more, especially the ones doing high rank security. In between deployment, I worked a year with a security company in Iraq for $250k.
The issue about union representation of CCAs still on probation is that the union is limited to what they can do because of the contract. As a former shop steward, and a city carrier for 8 years, if have defended a few CCAs during probation depending on what infractions they committed. They are some stewards that are afraid to do their job and protect the CCA that are probation. If anything, go to the union president, and they would solve the issue. Especially if the CCA was a good carrier who's show potential.
Cherish those older ladies that hold you up on ya Route if they’re actually nice people. I had one who I used to talk to but eventually started to avoid because she would talk on & on & on. But, long story short, she passed away due to a head injury and I feel a little bad because she was actually pretty cool.

With the issue of harassment, that's where the union needs to be informed so they can step in and stop the harassment.

I didn't know that you were able to join the union until after your 90 days.
