Had that feeling so many times bro makes you rethink your job sometimes
Oh so many times!
Dont sweat it, it feels rubbish but its sadly a common occurence. Had one exactly the same when I swapped the new copper f & R. Now when I do it I never pull the old pipes down, but rather twist them side to side to get them loose before I pull them down. This seems to allow the joint to free and release. No one understands this occupation just us engineers who share the experiences. Youre a cracking enginee,r never forget that!
Thank you! Yeah I tried that at first too but I think I just got badly unlucky
Really enjoy these transparent videos, great seeing a good tradesman dealing with all the trial and tribulations
Thank you 👍🏾
Had something similar today, serviced a 19 year old baxi 105. Multiple missed calls and abuse later because I left it not working apparently. (I’ve got pictures of all my readings whilst I was there) put a right downer on my day! I’d advised it needs a rebuild/replacement but the torrent of abuse I got down the phone you’d think I’d flooded the house… it’s a fun old game this one
Sounds about right. The abuse is usually born out of the customer not wanting to to take responsibility for wasting money on some ancient piece of junk rather than replace it.
There's just no need for the abuse we get from some customers. Ultimately we're there trying to help and advise. There's only so much we can do
That feeling late at night is the worst one, then like you say you overthink what might have failed, was it something I did etc. glad you got it sorted as that’s a good feeling
Thanks mate yeah it can stress you out big time!
Had the same ploblem 3 weeks ago, changed the flow and return, changed the blocked canoe filter, pressure sensor and expansion vessel. crack in the heat exchanger at the flow connection. I used J B Weld High Heat compound from Amazon. used a tube and a quater, mould it like putty and covered the entire joint from the copper pipe and the plastic heat exchanger, left it for 24 hours, joint sealed . saved the cost of a heat exchanger. compound was £8 a tube
Nice! I'll have to check that out 👌🏾
I feel your pain, I’m retired now but after 40years doing repairs on any make of boiler and appliances I think back and it’s not worth the hassle, the stress the loss of sleep. As you said over thinking the job is the biggest problem. Don’t want to sound boastful but I had very few call backs, you just don’t get the money for the hassle you get . Years ago when boilers were simple you could carry minimal spares on the van and just about repair anything, as I use to say to my customers I could have a articulated lorry outside full of parts and you wouldn’t have the part you need. Looking at the parts you’ve fitted to that boiler it would have been more cost effective to fit a new boiler and get a 10 year warranty. All the best.
Yup the older boilers were pretty much all mechanical components, not like all sensors, etc these days
Well done, customer lucky to have you.
Thank you 👍🏾
Remember this on Instagram.. what a nightmare. At least you sorted it in the end mate ❤
Yeah man wasn't what I wanted to see but it happens
Can't be any worse than my mates today. He went to replace a turbine on a old ravenheat.. for some reason he pulled the full hydrolic blocks and pump out of the boiler. Almost every nut n bolt and clip, he called me as he was struggling.. I walked in as he was surrounded by every tool he owned, every washer he had and the boiler was in a million peices... I could not help but burst out laughing... he got it back together and turned the water on... every single joint leaked and then flooded the PCB lol..He was there all day and he eventually gave up lol... I felt bad but had to laugh.
Mate those raven heat boiler only boiler so far that has shut me down, I couldn't fix it properly. I did the mainheat exchanger the year before, come back, replaced so called bullets proof PCB 3 times, changed the pump and pressure gauge, then found out the plate had pin hole leak. I tried my level best with the plate, had to remove the left hand side just for one nut, then realised the nut on the right hand side needed removing meaning I have to take the complete right hand side out...boy I feel you pain, raven heat DID NOT and DOES NOT supply you with any washer at all, I gave up in the end just put the plate back on which I couldnt remove almost there, and started to leak. Told the customer time to get new boiler as I said to him the previous year
Experience tells you to walk away sometimes it's not worth getting involved if it's old as you know once you touch one bit it all goes wrong
Iam older I have worked on all the crap in my younger days I now just stick to worcester and ideal carry a lot of parts for them you getting a feeling for the ones to walk away from lol
Ahhh Brendan, that sounds like the worst luck. Especially when his intentions were not to give up and get it fixed!
Should have just changed out the whole thing lol good problem solving mate great video ❤
Thanks mate 👍🏾
Omg .... we've all had that call.....bet you didn't sleep well that night
I definitely didn't man 😞
Learning and entertainment at the same time
You know it!
Done load off vaillant heat exchanger roughly 1hr job, remove the vessel and also top flue remove the bracket or loosen the elbow that way round when you remove the heat exchanger out it easily you got abit off play on the turret then, you dont need to remove the left bracket on the chassis. good video keep them coming 👍👍
Nice one thank you 👍🏾
excellent video mate really enjoy your content you put out. Also feel your pain hate those nights trying to sleep but constantly thinking what has happened to it and cannot shut off the brain!
You know it!
You'd think the base flow and return manifold, with the screws securing it in would be available to replace as a part. But, no. New Hex it is, thanks Vaillant!
I actually had an old hex at home and I tried to remove it to see if I could swap it out, but nope, it just cracked off
What a pain of a job. Atleast you warned them in advance. Top service Chirag.❤
Yup!
Nice work buddy👍👍👍
Thank you 👍🏾
Awesome video 👍🏽
Thanks 👍🏾
Have never been a vaillant fan, worked on loads, and have never really understood their car like plumbing on flow and return to heat exchanger.
I don't mind them to be fair, but the hex cracking is always a bit hit & miss
It is like a punch in the guts but as long you have been thorough there s not much point worrying about.
Remain calm attack the issue in a focussed and logical manner. Most of the time the customer wants a resolution which is usual means repair it. There are a few who want compensation etc so make sure you PI is in place.
Yup exactly mate
Can happen these flow and return can crack has happened or probably was already there but once its disturbed won't seal up.
Yeah exactly
What a stressful game it is. Can you imagine how a surgeon feels on a live patient 🤦♂️
I dread to think!
Save taking the pipes out to disturb the seal replace the rubber hoses it takes the same amount of time but your not risking cracking the heat ex 💁
Good point
Those vaillants are flawed with issues especially the ecotec R1 and R2…..give so much problems. Vaillant should start issuing free replacement parts as im sure a lot of those issues were product recalls 🤷🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
Nah they'll just say "poor water quality, needs a powerflush" 😂
I feel you 😅
Haha thanks 🙏🏾
We all make mistakes mate. Your just keeping it real 👊💙
Always mate 👊🏾
Happens to the best of us you dealt with it and it could have been a lot worse
💯 mate
Yep cracked my mates grandads main hex filled it back up and pouring out, ordered a refurbed one of eBay job done,
And also
Took me ten mins to work out how to re fit the main hex clamp things they look like they fit backwards
Ah no way!
Feel ur pain pal..I just tell them now gone are the days when boilers lasted 25/30 yrs there like TVs and Iphones 10yrs and ur on borrowed time nothing lasts and boilers just the same no matter how often u sevice them...Keep the faith..LOL
Yup 💯
Hope you sold them t rvs and new controls lol
😂
boilers really can be a complete nuisance
Tell me about it 🤦🏾♂️
@@cputilitysolutions that's why I stick to fireplaces
Did the main heat wxchanger break when changing over the copper conversion kit or it was already broken? Was it your fault in rhe end?
I think it was already cracked as it was leaking from that area initially, but I reckon it got worse when it got disturbed
When would you revommend a new boiler, that vaillant looks 15 years old?
I did suggest that to them, but they're happy for me to maintain and rebuild the boiler
Top man Cris...
Haha thanks man
Good video dude where did you get the reconditioned main hex from?
Thanks I got it from Capital Boiler Parts in South Woodford
@@cputilitysolutionsso you have places to get parts from previously used boilers? Can you rely on them? I'd not feel safe tbh 😬
In Russia, especially after our government started war, we have a lot of unoriginal parts, most of them are reliable and fine overall. That's the alternative if a customer can't afford originals or you can't get them at all (yeah, it's a big problem rn)
@@foxsol1d yes they come with a 1yr warranty too, I always give my customers the option 👍🏾
@@cputilitysolutions are they much cheaper?
@@foxsol1d generally yes
That's not the video you want to get as your about to lay your head down, handled like a champ, running a plumbing business is not good for your health, normally comes in waves for me it goes from smooth to something on every job. in the space of a week recently I've had a new boiler with a failed pcb out of the box for the most difficult customer, a bent shower tray and the wrong wall boards turn up 🥳
Ah mate you're absolutely right, when it's going good it's real good, when it goes wrong it all goes wrong
Where did you get your company uniform from ?
The hoody is from Regatta and I got it printed by someone I know
That boiler need new side insulation,,,…,
Sides are only for noise dampening it's OK as long as the front case corners are intact
Correct 👍🏾
It s no good at cutting corners I
👍🏾
Bro was the HE leaking previously from that connection?
Or you think it happened when swapping the pipe?
These plastic connectors on the HE are not great and those flow and return pipes are a bit hard to wiggle in sometimes so easy to happen
Great work as always
The difference between us and the cowboys is if we do make mistakes or something goes wrong we will always rectify it 👊🏼
I think it must have been leaking from before but where I disturbed it, it got worse 😭
@@cputilitysolutions
Thats what i would be telling the customer regardless 😂😂
