I have more photos and footage taken of the bears that day (all of which I left with Big Bend National Park), and some of which I may post here at some point. For those of you who didn't enjoy my commentary, please understand that I recorded this footage at about 200 to 300 feet from the bears, in a relatively narrow canyon, while alone, with no way out but a kayak on maybe 2 foot of water (which was between me and the bears), and the whole encounter was extremely intense for me. For those wondering about the height at which the bears were climbing above the canyon floor, I actually do have footage showing that, but it needs to be slowed down before sharing, as it was taken in too much of a hurry. I would just estimate that the bears were at 150 to 200 feet. They were high enough, that the ground and the bears were too much to fit on my screen at once at my distance. Just shows these wonderful animals do AMAZING things and we have no clue. They survive, no thrive in areas and conditions thats u cant even imagine. They show power, intelligence and everything u dont think about for a wild animal.
Black bears definitely do climb. Brown bears do not. So if your in the forest or rock climbing a black bear can climb up a tree or up rocks to get you but Brown bears can not. Brown bears are bigger and have more weight to carry. This is why they don't climb well at all. Great video!!
black bear will not "get you". If you see one stalking, , the object should worry, but all run away, and often climb away. Even nonhungry griz , IF not surprised, will leave - you usually don't see this, because they have smelled you long before. Brown bears, once living here before all the miners shot them, used to just drop into a native lodge when hungry & fish not spawning, would select a human to assist calorie needs. Black bears have curved claws, and being mesopredators, climb a lot. . I have seen one even turn around with ease on a horizontal branch about 15 cm diameter 10 meters up - they are agile. The ONLY reason griz can't climb when adult is the straight claws. They are evolved to dig and overturn rocks & fallen trees, where tasty marmots and other little things hide, as well as many bulbs and gophers that grow in ground.
Hit an impassable spot, held on, looked back down, showed no panic, AND RETREATED for an alternate route - now that is pure intelligence.

@@almostskater3210 Let's recap to your original post of desperate bears hunt and eat humans. I will just respond in a different and more civil way. How is that? Even a desperate bear wouldn't hunt or eat a human. A deranged or sick bear would unknowingly eat anything. But, from a biological and scientific standpoint, no black bear would hunt or eat a human. Remember, we're talking about black bears. Polar bears are more prone to attack and possibly eat a human. But a black bear? There's nary a recorded case of a single human feasting in North America.
@@christophersmith2470 No, check this article by the Smithsonian. Hungry black bear males are known to occasionally eat humans because they are hungry, not because they are deranged or sick (though I'm sure that happens too):www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/how-to-avoid-being-eaten-by-a-black-bear-179225111/
Amazing climbing ability. Salute to the bears!
Not going to lie, but while they were on the wall it just looked like a person in a bear costume
Very cool footage! I did not know bears would free climb like that. I know they can climb trees, but I never suspected they would climb a sheer cliff face. Thanks for sharing the footage! 👍
Никогда ещё так не переживала как за этого медвежонка 😍

Well damn. .I’ve never seen a bear scale a mountain until now. That was amazing 🤩
Just shows these wonderful animals do AMAZING things and we have no clue. They survive, no thrive in areas and conditions thats u cant even imagine. They show power, intelligence and everything u dont think about for a wild animal.
Forget about climbing, at this point in 2020 I wouldn’t be surprised if bears could FLY
😀😀😃😃
Beautiful, thanks for sharing. Bears definitely have skills as climbers.
This gives you a whole new meaning for Bear Grills

Респект!!Тому кто "снимал"!Уникальные кадры!
Stephanie your video is priceless !!!
How brave of that bear to free solo that route. What a Gigachad! 💪
I know bears can climb tallest trees but rocky mountains.... What!! 🥺🥺 So amazing! 👌👌
