What a tough life for both mountain goats and bears. It's one of those situations where I have sympathy for both the predator and the prey animals. They both need to survive, and they do what they must to accomplish that. The consequences can be deadly.

Yes, they swoop on them and if they can even get a slight hold, can cause them to tumble down the mountain to their deaths. They then swoop down and pick at the dead carcass

I was once solo backpacking in the North Cascades and a whole herd of goats wandered into my camp and hung out for 1/2 an hour. 15 goats, 6 of them were babies. Just chillin'.
I was sitting on a bench once in a wildlife park high up in the Austrian mountains and this goat just jumped on the bench and sat down next to me. I put my arm around it and had my photo taken with it. I did have a sandwich that he was after though 😂

I would think so, yes. But the predators can be lighting fast. I've seen film of bear assaults and the action is just a blur. Scooting out of the way, from within 30 or 40 feet, is just not an option. It's appalling and terrifying to see 700 pounds of lumpen-shaped mass move that effortlessly.
