When I first heard their songs I thought they were a normal rock group, and as I started actually listening to their lyrics I was like wait a minute, these lyrics sound very religious to me, I was deeply moved by them. I then looked them up and found out that they were indeed a Christian band just as my gut and soul were telling me they were. One of the first songs I ever heard from them was the song Awake and Alive.
I first heard them in 1998 when I was 12 on a trip with a church youth group so I knew they were a Christian band I did buy the album, it had big NIN vibes but I never liked them enough to keep listening to them, was funny to see them blow up with Monster tho But this songs lyrics are incredibly awful, esp for a "I love god" song, he wants his legs cut off so he can't escape, that's cult shit bro, I didn't walk around as a kid feeling rage lmao
If anyone is listening in 2024 this song feels like the very first one cuz the skillet album doesn't sound so different but the nu voice in this this got to be 1996
I'm glad that a lot of people bond over their music and religion, but I personally aren't religious and the comment sections always make me feel like I'm somehow not allowed to like songs from 'Christian bands' and interpret the lyrics in the way that i want to interpret them. Lovin' the song.

They've changed their style and the lyrics are more secular, sure, but they did that to reach a larger audience for Christ's sake! John's faith shows through his songs and the way he speaks during interviews and concerts. These people know God and love him and serve him with all they are and He uses them for his glory.
I agree with that except for the part about Comatose being "religious". The song is about Christianity, which is a relationship with the almighty, and religion is a series of good deeds to get a person to Heaven.
