You said it perfectly. Someone spent their time, money and energy modding this watch. It’s the fruit of someone’s labor. I’m a huge fan of homage watches. It allows everyone to feel the love without re-financing your house.
Couldn't agree with you more, man! No shame in wearing an homage IMO. I'm with you, no replicas. I literally just finished modding a Seiko Comex this week. It's housed in an SKX case, and I couldn't be more happy. That's the joy of this hobby!
I am a watch enthusiast and a car enthusiast, and there is a saying in the car world "built not bought", and that is kind of a badge of honor, your blood sweat, and tears went into building, modding or whatever you want to call it, that vehicle. I happen to be a JLR fan and have and have had a number of Jags and Land Rovers over the years, and it is as common as dirt to "facelift" these vehicles to look like more modern versions of the same vehicle. I am sure we have all seen cars made by one manufacturer that looks pretty similar to another car manufacturer's vehicle. In the car world, this is kind of considered a tribute, and a compliment. So I do not understand the big deal about modding watches. If I was to take a Seiko chassis and slap a Rolex dial, bracelet, and case back on it and try to sell it as a Rolex then that is simple fraud, but if it is for your own enjoyment, who cares. My collection of watches is pretty much all Seikos. I have some vintage ones, and some modern ones, and I have no issue with some of the mods out there intended to look like some of my vintage expensive Seikos. I love GS, but I stick to the quartz versions because I want to enjoy the watch, not covet the watch. You don't see a lot of GS homages, but I would have no issue purchasing one, especially if it stays true to what it is; if the parts are all Seiko, use a Seiko dial. Those who know watches know Seiko and Comex were not a thing, and we understand that it is the aesthetics that the modder was going for, not an attempt to fool anyone. Come on, if you see a no-name Reverso for sale for $400.00 on Ebay are you really thinking its a JLC?
Very well said. I modded cars for years, so I can definitely understand the build not bought mentality. I have built cars and watches and the one thing I learned is No One will ever be happy. So enjoy what you have and forget about the rest
Love this "super homage". It really does justice to the COMEX Rolex. The case looks like it came from a Tisell Marine diver, and the bezel looks like it came from the Steinheart OVM. Great video as usual my friend 🙂.
Such a cheeky rendition.. 😂 I bought the Zjani Mil Sub GMT.. With a cyclops date wheel. It's so extreme it's technically not a homage, but its own watch. MilSubs never came close to that.
How has that worked out? Considering the 007 edition. I don't quite see the James Bond connection vs. a similar option they also have for a few $ less, but anyway.
I built a watch just like this same movement same dial and hands. Only difference was the case and bracelet. I went with the slimmer sub case with super dome acrylic crystal and hollow end link rivet bracelet. It feels and looks amazing and I even got a comfort extend link and a diver extension link to go with it. I have many different bracelets leather straps and nato straps for it and they all look amazing on it.
I've always wanted the Rolex submariner, the only thing that stops me from buying one is when ever I get a glance at one on someone's wrist the 1st thought is. I wonder is it a fake.
@@allthingsrandom8137 I could afford the Rolex Sub, but chose an 80's 9306a movement modded Seiko Sub it looks as good, keep's time as good as the Rolex Sub, at fraction of the cost, parts are cheap & easy to find and I couldn't care less what watch snobs think I've got better things to do with my money than impress people I don't know. Pro's the Rolex is a lot lighter on the wrist & its the original iconic design but at the premium price I really can't justify it.
100% true but, do you or I or anyone that builds one care? NO! LMAO I don't hang-around with Mr. Wonderful or Teddy and even if I did, I still wouldn't care about the bashing.
It all depends what sings to you. What sings to me is 1960s pieces. I love my 1967 Sub, but could not care less about a 2024 one. And other people love different watches. And that's OK.
I've always wanted a Rolex Submariner, I could afford one no problem & here's the but, whenever I get a glance at one I always think mmm wonder if its a knock off.
@@allthingsrandom8137 The Seiko mods are cool for this reason they encompass the timeless classic look of the Submariner but anyone who knows watches knows at a glance are never left wondering.
When Pagani Design or San Martin produces these homage watches you won't been seen dead with them. When Seiko does the same, but now less quality and higher pricing, it is suddenly cool. There is so much wrong with that warped thinking 'proces'. Time to reset your opinion. If you like this watch and would wear it, than you can also wear a very well made San Martin, that looks the same. Nothing to do with Comex on the dial.
I love Pagani design and San Martin, especially San Martin. They have come along way in the last few years, and some other watches even have Swiss movements.
The problem people have with this watch is: This is a custom made watch, I get it. However that dial isn't made by the Seiko factory, hence a fake Seiko dial...which makes it trying to seem like passing this watch off as a Seiko and it's not... therefore this is a fake Seiko. You could get dials customised to your own name, or dials with different names. But if I get the same case, hands, bracelet and dial and have the dial say "Rolex" on it...it would be a fake rolex
I can afford a sub.. I already have a Sea Dweller Deepsea.. but I prefer the Seiko over the Sub. There’s one thing that unites people who get emotional about these mod/custom/homage watches… micropenises
There's no original Seiko component in this watch except probably the movement. All are "aftermarket" made in China parts. I mean, I don't hate it, it actually looks good. But will I wear it? Probably not.

Love this watch!!! I am a cheap watch guy, love the Homages. If not for homage watches, I would have a manual wind timex from the 80's or 90's.
Nothing wrong with that

You know, if you want to look for some straps check out Chasestraps.com 😃
I think your watch looks great , love the comex logo and my dad was a saturation diver for comex in the 70s and 80s
Wow so they have a Comex. My buddy brought a Folex of course a fake Rolex 45 dollars in two days fell on the floor and broke. That was it for it.

100% correct.. most faked Watch.

Yup , you can get top spec watches with great movemens for under 200 bucks these days .Steeldive are Fantastic 👍
A lot of people refuse to do it, but there are quite a bit of Chinese watches that are great. Agree with steeldive

Cool looking watch and i appreciate the effort put in to it but at best it's a frankenwatch. A half step above a fake. If that.

thats one of the reasons i like watches that are not. Unless you are very wealthy and well known, the question is always lingering.

All fair points!
Ready to be pissed off gents? I put a seiko comex dial on my invicta pro diver with a timex canvas bracelet
Hands silver or gold?
Is it a fake seiko dial?? Or did they make a dial that says comex? I love it, I want one, I like the 16800 seiko mod also
The dial is aftermarket
Think of watches like cars. All kinds for all the people.
Please...no more Mercedes hands on watches anymore. It's been done to death. Do something different like Omega or Grand Seiko.
Agreed… and snowflake hands… sorry they have been over done too…

Come on dude, a "your mom's basement" comment? Cringe dawg. Cringe.
Wouldn't piss me off, not really worth talking about. Its not a replica, its not even a homage its much worse!
I don’t think it’s much worse! I still love it
seiko is a better watch it's simple
It definitely is a work horse for less
Why hate? It looks fantastic, and you do not kick 20.000€ out the window!
Those hard core original rolex fanboys…
