Jeremy, do you know if the entire soundboard track recordings of Red Rocks '86 exists, inc. the songs from the set that weren't included on the VHS/DVD? I can't get over just how much of that film really only captures half of her real live performances, since there were re-takes, inserts, and edits throughout much of it afterwards (inc. that night, like this song)...I'd love to hear what the real live 18 songs sounded like by the end of that August night. I keep hoping that the Deluxe reissue of Rock A Little may include that collection.
From what I understand, the main reason was visual. They redid her hair and makeup, and reran through the whole set after the audience left so the could get all of Stevie’s closeups. If you watch the video closely, you will see semi far shots with the audience and her hair is a tad wilder than the perfection you see in her closeups. I haven’t seen this in a while, but I believe her closeups we directed by Marty Callner. Side note... her hair is fantastic in the closeups! Beautiful!
Somewhere, out there, exist the originals. they were in circulation when we were trading bootlegs on CDRs through the mail. She was pretty coked-out and the story was that the vocals had to be redone.
❤
I heard most of the vocals that night were re-recorded later on
amazing

I would love to hear those if there’s more
That should nhave been the album cover.
Agreed! With her eyes closed it’s a better representation of the album title.
I am confused. Why do a retake? This version is not on the Live DVD. They thought the could do better but still kept the original?
Must be. I was thinking the same thing.

This version is Edgy and raspy how I love it
Stevie’s close-up hair was similar to the Tango in the night photo shoots.
I seem to remember hearing somewhere the close ups were filmed after rehab? maybe im wrong but it would make sense with the timeline
Why did they re-take the show?
James Nuttall Stevie didn’t like her hair and voice
Who is James Nuttall?
