If what they say about cost is true, they should have included them in the base offering and made the effects pieces and the damaged fuselage the first tier. Reaching tiers = higher overall profit of the project. Base offering would be lower to produce, so they could lower the price. More units would sell because of that and because of more desirable tiers than the patches. They'd still get their money while having less of their loyal customers feeling fleeced by them.
But also the collector is the problem it was backed in a day. So they know they can get away with it. Remember the Skystriker wasn't moving the needle and they started adding more tiers to it and it funded.

If this haslab project gets funded, be aware that the next Haslab tier would include T-shirts, ball cap or pens. Hasbro will know that we don't care about patches and continue to screw the collectors over because of fear of missing out. Don't fund this project and let them know that we the collectors are not buying into their little gimmicks. We said no to the Haslab Rankor and gave us The Ghost and Cantina instead.
Too late bro it already funded, the fans were waiting for it and I feel most people were ready to accept that first tier. The question will be if it hits all the numbers.

The rattler was one of my favorite G.I. Joe vehicles that I had as a kid...cool to see it getting redone again.
My memory of the Rattler is fond as well. It was the second Joe Vehicle I ever got. Got it on Christmas Morning 🎄

Yeah they mailed it in on the patches. They could have given Ground equipment If you didn't want to include a figure for the first tier.
