7:25 i'm so happy that they did this feature, because if you have a very large collections of expansions, you can delve into these sound sources and see if you can pick something that you heard in the presets, that would be a base for a good new patch, especially when you have the breaks & risers exp, you can sift through all the elements etc ...
100%! I definitely plan to grab a few expansions, especially the vintage synth ones which I like to imagine are full of great vintage synth samples. I kind of see it as the equivalent of the Vintage Synth exp board for the JD-990. good way to beef up your sample ROM
I recommend FM, FM2, Analog, Analog 2, Analog 3, Vintage Synths, Vintage Synths 2. Those were among the first ones I tried. Right now there is a sale, and you get up to 25% discount if you buy multiple expansions. They are pricier alone, and during the rest of the year. There is also an Analog Drums expansion if you want those. Definitely has some retro drum machine vibes. For full disclosure, some of that stuff is sampled, and some loops are not arpeggiated but are recorded already as loops/arpeggios, but you do get a lot of starting inspiration. I know there will always be the INI synth patch die-hard fans, but if you can afford it, it is easier and more fun to at least have a decent collection of starters. Everyone can vote with a wallet, right?
Korg M1... Excellent vibes! Greetings to a fellow Korg fan! You definitely nailed this one. You get the idea of dissecting the presets, and looking under the hood. I was just making the comment earlier, that I have the same excitement about Nexus 5 as I had about my Korg Triton Rack back in the day. A bunch of good sounds out of the box that can fit in songs very easily. For all the preset haters and ROMpler claimers, now you can create your own presets or tweak the existing ones. There is not a whole lot of excuses not to have some music making fun with this one.
Love it my fellow Korg fan! The joy experienced when firing up a Triton can now be experienced by many in a "modern" package. This thing is a TON of fun in version 5
How many VSTs have had 4 versions that are "locked down", then the 5th version.. it's completely opened up with full accessability to previous patches to look under the hood? Doesn't happen that often I'd imagine. Looks like a great piece of software!
Feel like it was only a matter of time as VSTs evolved over the years - and seriously, can't reiterate how cool it is to look under the hood and see how they created a lot of these classic sounds. Really solid update!

Version 4 already allowed of lot of editing, but it was harder to reach. It had a very similar routing page, and when you clicked on an osc or layer, it would open an inspector and allow you to tweak everything. Version 5 goes a lot further though, allows to add new elements, and the editing is much easier.
I always knew they were samples. When people made custom expansions from what they called it. It would rely on the official refx expansion to be installed to use the presets. Synthesis doesnt normally work like that unless were talking about wavetables...but even then the expansions are like 3 GB, wavetables are usually a couple kb. Also if you're a deep diver it was just stuff you couldn't reproduce without the right sample to start with, because all the normal synth stuff is not there. Glad they did this update with 5.
@Jukau It was not always official that it was. It was a lot of speculation about why it sounds the way it does and why does it require so much space. Debates on it vs vanguard. I was around when the first nexus was released. So you are right I do talk like it was not always official that it was a rompler 🤷🏽♂️
@@Jukau That is actually a false statement, when you open existing patches, you can see the oscillators, operators, LFOs, modulation, amps, matrixes, etc. Yes, there are plenty of samples, but it is simply not true that there is no synthesis going on. Hard drive space alone is not a proof of complete lack of synthesis.
For those, who, just like author, deeply impressed about sample layers, voice stacking, drawing your own LFOs and other pretty basic regular modern vst synth features - welcome to 2024 and please take a look at Arturia Pigments 5, PhasePlant and UVI Falcon, it will blow your mind.
No, people DO know what synths do, they just are impressed with the fact that Nexus finally offers this. Interesting enough, I got PhasePlant, Pigments, SynthMaster and even Vital vibes from the Nexus 5 UI.
@@antsa169 Yeah, I think it will take a bit of time, but people will start seeing that it is definitely a huge step. Many people just got used to it being a preset player, but with RUclips videos popping up about it quickly, eventually the word will get out. Since it costs the same as its predecessors, but has a lot more features, everyone wins. I also think there is some advantage of dissecting existing library presets, because people will learn how some of these sounds are created and how sound design works.
lol, no need for the attitude. nexus has been one of the industry standard VSTs for over 20 years and its cool to have more sound design features when its been primarily used as a ROMpler over its lifespan
Dang, this looks SUPER nice. I just got korg modwave native which also has some sample layering features but this looks like it can go a fair bit further than modwave.
@ yup it’s super similar. You do have to use an external software to set them up into “packs” that you import but it’s overall the same, load the sample in as oscillator and you have 2 layers that each have two oscillators.
Seems not to be possible for 100% this way with complete layers including signal flow and Arp etc. from different presets, and that was my wish too. But with the new design there is surely a workaround possible. But we'll have to check (I'll get my V5 this week).
Did you just get Triton, or the entire Korg Collection? With the Wavestation and the M1, it is a banger. I also use Electribe in there a lot. I remember getting the original Triton Rack IN 2001... And now the whole thing sits inside a VST plugin! Gotta love it! I hope they will one day do the M3, the Oasys, or maybe even the Kronos...
Did you only import one sound?! But can you import a multisamples from the Kontact? Or for example can you drag 30 wav and Nexus the map automatically?.. Love korg sound.. I have 2 M1, Trinity, 01WFD, Radias 😉
Nexus has become our Top-Dog "go to" SOUND DESIGNED, software. Tutorials have always determined who survived on the Internet... This is why Serum Xfer is still around and FL Studio is Top-Dog!..
I'm fairly certain you can - but candidly, I would just get starter & stick with it. then get any expansion a la carte. think value gives u the most RECENT 10 expansions, you cant pick which ones (I may be wrong)

A lot of people mention Avenger as well. All I can say is this is good. More consumer choice. More options. Competition drives innovation. I really love Falcon's diverse selection of expansions. They are not only additional sounds, but also different creative interfaces specific to the expansion. I wish there was a way to purchase their entire line of products in a bundle, but right now you either spend a LOT, or do the subscription.

Hmm… I never got into Nexus. I own Halion 7 and Falcon 3 licenses. I am not hearing or seeing anything that would convince me to buy into this one as well. If I owned an earlier version and it was my primary, then I would upgrade for sure, though. Some of my budget this BF sales season went to upgrading Korg Collection from 4 to 5; like your Triton vids.
Genuine question is there anything in there that can’t be done in the polygrid. Granted more polished but £188 more polished. Yes that is gong to cover the patch creation
I think Polygrid generally has you covered...outside of the polish. Certainly there is some nuance depending on what's important to you - but no need to drop the $$$ if you're deep in the polygrid world

What was the purpose of showing the Korg Triton? The device had a 16-track MIDI sequencer. Where is the 16-track MIDI sequencer in Nexus 5? Nexus 5 has nothing to do with a workstation because Nexus 5 is missing the most important thing that makes a workstation: the sequencer.
NEXUS 5 has 16-arps. Each one can be switched to "sequencer" mode, where you can even import midi-files. Now, you can play 16 polyphonic sequences at the same time.

It would have to be able to do that to be called a real workstation. I would like to work only in Nexus 5 or only in Avenger 2. Not as an instance in a DAW. No, I would use three or four preset sequences with Nexus 5 (mainly drums) and then record the remaining sequences myself until I have 16 tracks/sequences together. I'm just concerned with the chaining of these sequences. If that is possible, one can speak of a real workstation. Then I can sell my Yamaha Montage. Regards.

It's pretty slick! I think On the Modwave do u just load samples in and use them as oscillators similar to Nexus?

You can't edit expansion samples. Their cross-fades are baked in and thus we consider them "final".

All skins are prepared and will be added in the coming weeks. A default start-page is a good idea. Will be added in one of the next updates.
