The first "Big" 4 wheel drive tractor on our Northern Illinois farm was a 1970 IH 4156 at a whopping 125 HP, it was also our first tractor with a cab . It was a huge yellow thing with crab steering. The tractor I drove all my young childhood was a IH1206 while it had the same hp as the 4156 (dads tractor because it had a cab) but the weight and the 4wd of the 4156 meant it would pull all the same stuff so much better. Love your channel, thanks for your videos.
Great history. The 4156 is on my filming wish list. My understanding is under 300 4156s we’re built. The 4156 had a short production life between the 4100 and 4166.
They are all awesome. All were great to see working. I am a Massey Ferguson guy loved the 5200. Enjoyed the whole video such a great show of these old classic tractors.

@@stacyp4534 I think he doesn’t want to do the work of ripping the saplings out to get a trailer to it and get it on the trailer honestly. He didn’t give me a good reason why he wanted to keep it just didn’t act real interested in selling or keeping it
Our first 4WD tractor was a Case 1470. It replaced a Case 930 and was the first 4WD tractor that anyone had in our area. It looked absolutely huge at the time! I was too young to do anything but ride on it with my father, but I put in a lot of hours in the subsequent 2470 and 4490. Then everything on the farm turned green. Sometimes I still miss the ability to crab steer with the back wheels.
Thank you for sharing. Great 4wd history. The first tractor I ever got to ride in was a Case 2470. It was brand new with a Case 700 7 bottom plow. The closet thing to a Traction King today is the 4 way steer CLAAS Xerion or JCB Fastrac.
When I was a kid our neighbor had both a yellow and a red Minneapolis moline tractors. Really cool. Long stripped down and parked in the brush now. We run a couple versatile 700s. Infamous for the 555 Cummings but we've had good luck with them.
We had the case 4890 and the case IH 4894. I can still tell you where every lever and switch is to this day, 40 years later. I'm sure most farmers are like that. You spend enough time in something and you'll know it forwards and backwards

The official Case combination colors from 1975-1983 were Power White and Power Red. The David Brown coloring definitely moved the company from Desert Tan and Flambeau Red colors used from the 1960’s to 1974. Why they call it red and not orange I am not sure but those are the official paint color names.
@@bigtractorpower thanks for replying Jason. Over here in Ireland there are still a few DBs about. All mainly the smaller row crop type that you guys over there call them, 995, 1210, 1390 etc. However it's a treat for me to see the big American cases in the DB colours. Plus the sound....Great!!!
The Ford Designation 6 tractors sold pretty well. In fact when they went to blue and white sakes expanded into areas Versatile had never had a presence. The only Ford Designation 6 that is extra rare is the top end 1156 model.

As a farm kid in the 70s and 80s, we didn't see much "big iron" in my area and still don't. There was one family that had a fleet of 4 or 5 of those long nose Internationals (can't remember the model #) but they ran several thousand acres of mostly Heinz tomatoes. They still have a couple of them in their fields. These days, they're mostly a produce operation. As for my favorite in the video, even though I don't farm, I still bleed Persian Orange! Honestly though, I like them all!
Sounds like the tomato farm used 2+2 tractors from IH. If they had a white cab they were a 3x88 and and if they had a red cab they were a 6x88. These models ranged from 130 to 170 hp. The AC 8550 is a stand out tractor for sure.
@@bigtractorpower The biggest tractor on our farm was our A-C 7080. We also had a D-17 diesel which got a lot of use. Muir Hill tried selling some it’s tractors here in the US in the 70’s. Their ads focused on equipping dairy farmers with a tractor that could plow, chop silage and spread manure.
My favorite? Are you kidding? Most of them tied for first. The White and the long nose IH's are my "least favorites" and I really like them! Great video Jason. BTW, have you ever done a video on limited brands of equipment? I saw that Steiger disk and don't remember ever seeing Steiger implements before. I know I have seen White, Oliver, Massey, Case, IH, Case-IH, Deere, Ford, Allis, Cockshutt, Moline implements. Are there many implements around with Steiger, Wagner, or Big Bud on it? There was the Steiger disk, so I guess so.
Steiger offered the Trail-R-Disk up to 45ft shown in this video. They also offered off set disks. They also produced the Dig-R-Disc which was a coulter chisel. I have a video on the Steiger Coulter Chisel on the way. Wagner and Big Bud did not offer implements. Versatile offered a disk, straw threaders, seed drill, pull type sprayer and a pull type combine in the 80’s.
Moline is always my favorite. My dad sold them here in Gurley, Alabama in the 1970's. Great tractors that are sorely missed by fans.
I grew yon a G 1000 Vista. Very easy to operate.
The Moline was sharp, and sounded good with the straight pipe.👌

And the price was pretty good also
