@timbobryan - Check the comment thread on our Sensei review page for information about the Apprentice and the Sensei. They're both great trainers, but there are some differences to consider.
I am new at rc anything but have been flying a foamy trainer. I purchased the Sensei fs rx-r. I was able to bypass the stabilization module and set expo on my spektrum 6xi and it flys like a dream. It has plenty of power and handles fine. I had to reinforce the hinges with hinge tape though as they were starting to split from the factory. No biggie though, it doesn't hurt to reinforce hinges on any foamy. Being a tripod, it takes off nicely from grass strips. They are very tough . I put mine in a tree when I first got it and got it down with no damage. Love the plane. It is a good step towards soloing with my gas planes. Did I mention that I love the plane?
OMG! Thank you guys! I cannot thank you enough! I have never flown an RC plane and i wanted to get started with it and I was debating on this plane but you just blew me away and now wihout a doubt I am getting this plane. Thank you so much. And if anyone knows if the RTF of this plane comea with a controller than if yoy replied it would be greatly apprechiated. Thanks.
I bought the DHC-2 beaver by flyzone. I hope it will be good to learn to fly. Right now I'm still putting it together and it's so pretty I don't want to crash it.
@CLANCY759 - The Sensei comes in two different versions: Receiver Ready (Rx-R) and Ready to Fly (RTF). The RTF version has everything you need to get up in the air. The RX-R version requires that you supply the flight pack, charger, transmitter, and receiver.
I forgot to mention, assembly is very easy but unless you use one of the 2 mentioned brands of radio/receiver combos, the instructions aren't very good for beginners. I use spectrum and called their customer service. They just told me to read the instructions. The instructions don't cover other receivers.
Thanks again guys for another great, detailed review!! Tell me... is this kinda like the Flyzone answer to the Eflite Apprentice 15e? (no disrespect to either company!) Seems like a very similar size, price range, etc. (Hmmm... which one to get?...) Thanks again for your info!!!
i have 3 for training beginners at our club they are ok the gyro can play tricks and lead you into the deck the tx batteries are weak and need to be replaced often or you will get a flyaway you must set the failsafe or you may have a flyaway crash you may have the battery connector springs fail i had to replace one with a bit of spring steel not a bad trainer for the money
Does the WISE beginner, intermediate, expert modes not work if you do not buy the RTF version? You mentioned nothing about it.... Is that a different model?
+jbrooks1111 We reviewed the Sensei BEFORE they released WISE flight assistance. The model you are seeing in our video was the old-school unassisted version of the Sensei.
I have one and have crashed it several times, repairs are easy. I love this plane and would rather fly it than anything else I have. I wish this had been the first trainer I bought. I have a friend with an E-Flite apprentice and now he wants a Sensei
I love these Flyzone RXR offerings! I gave up on E flite after they have discontinued al but 2 of there plug and play models and set there market fully towards people who fly spectrum.... Parkzone also has a few pnp models for us Fuaba guys but I think I will be coming over from the Horizon Hobby side and going to Towerhobbies to add a few of these Flyzone models to my collection :)
I just received my new RTF version with WISE. I hope it half as good and easy to fly as they say. But I do have an expert buddy that will be with me anyway. Will report back.
The stock Sensei is badly underpowered. It will drag itself into the air only under absolutely perfect conditions, which is a high quality asphalt or concrete surface. The three clubs in my area all have good grass fields but with the tiny motor that comes with the Sensei it cannot get through the drag of even a close cropped field. So, the out-of-the-box performance is disappointing. This power problem is well documented in R/C forums as is the incredible weakness of the stock motor mount.

How was the Beaver for a first-timer??

Great review again. What to buy floats fot this plane. Which kind do you recomend?
Thanks
I bought a set of floats that is intended for a 59" plane which is perfect for the 58" Sensei Fs.
@saldanajohn - Trust me, once you get it in front of you the stupidity flows freely! Rob and I were not lacking for really bad ideas. lol
What do you think of this plane compared to the e-flite apprentice with safe tech?
i have 3 for training beginners at our club
they are ok
the gyro can play tricks and lead you into the deck
the tx batteries are weak and need to be replaced often or you will get a flyaway
you must set the failsafe or you may have a flyaway crash
you may have the battery connector springs fail i had to replace one with a bit of spring steel
not a bad trainer for the money
@tenrazo215 - With our recommended expos, it's the most solid flight experience to be had.

Excellent review :-)

Im a quad guy, but i have one of these just sitting. Now i have to give it a try!!!
Man, I realy want this, but all I can see for the RTF is around $300 :(

I forgot to say when this one finally bites the dust I WILL get another one!
