      When I saw a 70 Maasai tribesman run a marathon with bare feet I knew that sitting around all day in my office job was killing me. So many guys I worked with could not get out of their chairs without a loud grunt or heavy breathing at the age of 40. I now weight train and eat better after learning my fate was in my hands.

    Have been doing gada training consistently for a year now. Results include better performance at the gym, increased stamina and muscle endurance, much better conditioning for boxing and Muay Thai, can perform a lot of unusual old school gym lifts and so much more. Most importantly I feel much tougher than I did before.
    Definitely recommend for everybody.

    Excellent video! I bought one for these very reasons. I’m tired of the same ol same ol of lifting. I am a retired concrete contractor where I became an expert sledge hammer swinger. I used to swing it “around the world” driving stakes, instead of the conventional swing it to strike, pick it up, repeat. As soon as I saw a video of someone swinging a mace, I knew I had to have one and learn it. I hope you have many more videos; this one is the best I have seen explaining everything. I am anxious to learn this art.

    The mace teaches so many martial arts basics its quite ridiculous 😅😀

    As soon as I heard of Persian Meel swings I began using 15 oz 24" aluminum T-Ball bats to practice.
    After 6 months I had lost 50 pounds and had added 2½ pound weights to each.
    I also use kettlebells and a bamboo bo with 2½ pounds on each end.
    I'm 60, have been using bo, meel, and kettlebells for a year now.
    This is the first video I have watched about it, except for the Iron Sheik using 150 lb meels.
    I do 300 meel swings
    300 bo strikes & swings and 300 26 lb kettlebell swings daily.
    I might buy a steel mace at one point but I got the T-Ball bats, bo, and the 26 lb kettlebell at Goodwill for under $20, so I doubt it.
    Instead I will just add more reps.
    In addition to the weight loss I've lost 4 inches off my waist, and am in better shape at 60 than I was in the Army at 25, doing PT every day.
    I do have a Cavalry Saber from the 1800s that I occasionally wield, and this training has made that sword seem as light as a drumstick.

    bought a 7kg hammer in local store a day ago... conclusions: 1) not ready for large circular moves yet, as you show; 2) even with just simple swinging motions - holding it in front and back - gives amazingly good feeling all over the body after the training - including legs and deep muscles in stomach, all those small muscles around vertebrae, rib cage, neck... In short, it is indeed an excellent tool for training - as each "pulse" is gradual, possibility to get an injury is greatly reduced, body goes into proper rhythm easily... thanks for the video, and can just recommend it to others, too :)

    Thank you for this presentation and your introduction Mace 360 course. I just completed it and looking to add on to continue Mace training. I got certified as a personal trainer and have been practicing various training styles on myself over the past year so I can figure out what I am interested in for training clients. I'm also into the barefoot movement and in the process of getting certifications from EBFA and TFC. Along that path, I started using kettlebells for training, mostly warmups in the beginning. Then I progressed to doing full kettlebell training every other week. I really found that I got more benefit out of kettlebell training than just swinging & one focused muscle. Instead, the training got all my muscles working together. The latest progression now is to Mace training as it incorporates similar benefits of kettlebell but also the proprioception and balance aspect from barefoot training. What course do you recommend as a progression? Mace 101? My interests as a youth was Excalibur and I also had some Karate training. Thanks again for sharing your experience, benefits and training.

    Hey its like martial arts to a martial artist, but it reminds me of the twirling baton I had as a child. I like that there’s a great deal of delight involved in thus practice (play). Im not saying it is undisciplined but the concept of ‘working’ out is not so emphasized. Im not such a stoic person as to lift weights grimly and dutifully working all my muscle groups. The very sight of a bar bell makes me feel like a slave. I am very excited about the stretch and flow also. It appears as though the mace and its swing momentum actually help you stretch rather than dutifully holding tense poses until a certain count! And it looks very beautiful. I think it engages the mind more than other exercise tools.

    Flowing Dutchman! Quick question, is there a difference between a flow mace and a non-flow mace / heavier mace (other than the weight)? If yes, can you describe any specifications in terms of dimensions, give some description in terms of what we should look for in a flow mace, or recommend any brands for flow maces? I have a 10 lb and 15 lb mace (Great Lakes Girya), but sometimes feel the 10 lb is too long for flow, but I"m not certain (I'm 5'10").

    • @TheFlowingDutchman
      @TheFlowingDutchman  2 года назад +8

      Hey there Kyle, well I wouldn’t say there is much of a difference there. I can flow with every mace. The 10lbs mace does have a certain weight distribution which allows you to do swings close to the globe. This possibility decreases as you move up in weight because regularly the handle weight does not. The length of the handle matters in the same sense, if the handle is short and the weight heavy it disturbs the distribution. Same if the handle is long but the weight is low. Hope that helps!

    • @TheFlowingDutchman
      @TheFlowingDutchman  3 года назад +7

      I would pursue it troy, strengthening and moving will always be a better option than not doing that. Do approach with care, take a light mace, really focus on the fundamentals. Best to take a few sessions with a coach to make sure your technique is on point. Only go up in weight once it starts to feel really light.

    Those flow patterns you do remind me of poi. Many years ago I had a roommate who spun poi. We'd eat shrooms and then he'd do fire poi in our backyard. (Safety first, lol) It looked super fun so I had him teach me the basics and a few simple tricks. Like you said, spinning objects around yourself really stretches your spatial awareness which you kind of have to feel through your body rather than rely on sight. And with poi, there's 2 to keep track of. Although poi are pretty light in comparison to a mace, they still pack a punch, especially considering they (seemingly) only ever hit you in the face or the balls. Hopefully that's not the case when I start with a mace.

    Gada is the main weapon of the Hindu God Hanuman ji. Known for his strength, Hanuman ji is traditionally worshipped by wrestlers in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, hence the use of gadas for strength training by wrestlers in akharas.
    Lord Vishnu also carries a gada named Kaumodaki in one of his four hands.
    Even thousands of years ago In the epic Mahabharata, the fighters Balarama, Bhima, Duryodhana, Jarasandha and others were said to be masters of the gada.

Why there is no archeological evidences of Hindu old civilization? Why chanakya introduced in 1900 and arthshastra written in 1905?

    Dear Dutchman, Mace or Gada had its Presence in Thousands of years back in History.. To be Exact, Evidences date back atleast 7000 years ago in The Great Indian Epic History of MAHABHARATA..!!!

    I know there is recorded use of this in India and Persia. But maces and axes have been used as weapons for millenia. To use a weapon effectively you have to use it and practice with. It is pretty likely that exercises or training for weapon use existed across the world without knowing about these other places. Let's face it, if an ancient warrior didn't know how to use his weapon, he would probably die pretty quickly. Their training and living life was their exercise.

    I don't mind if it takes a while to learn to use it that way just curious, because I mostly use Body weight training for strength and posture, mostly looking for something cardio and skill focused.

And in the Mahabharata Bhim, duryodhan and Balram were prominent Gada user and wrestling fighter. these skills are from the ancient history that got carried along todays history.

      In the Electric Kool-aid Acid Test, he was continually swinging and juggling a 20 pound sledgehammer.
      (Embellishments, yes but based on the True Story of this group that tried to turn the Democratic National Convention onto acid by painting the place with acid mixed with DMSO.
