Awesome diag Jake! Man I wish all cars had easy access Star CAN connectors to separate the modules like the Chryslers 😁 Can you imagine how many module problems are in store for us as these fancy new cars age a bit? Gonna get CRAZY lol
The communication with the customer has to be solid here. As you said, tell the customer it's highly likely a bad module, but you have to spend time disassembling to further prove it. This way the customer doesn't do the repair himself to find out it was a bad connector, and complain about "you told me it was a $xxxx repair, you were trying to rip me off, I fixed it for free, blah blah blah." And always yes for more videos!!
Thank you again Jake. Good job. Yes, more GDI fault videos. I liked your plug about yet another GDI fault. They do come in droves. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Whether it's a module that won't go to sleep, or one that pulls down the entire network and nothing works, I use your same thought process narrowing things down to a specific module. Excellent job and cool case study...hope you have a great Xmas
I had one just like this, It was a 15 charger with the shifter lights staying on. Unplugging the power steering pump from the star connector killed the draw. I wish more manufacturers used this style of can bus wiring. In cases like this, it makes for a relatively easy diagnosis
This is the very last video that I have not watched, now that I am here at the 100% mark, WHERE is the Snap On video BRO. From thousands of videos I have not seen anybody giving good praise about the SO scan tool, hope to see it soon, love your diagnostic channel, you are raising quick on my list of channels as you are currently in the TOP 20% and raising to catch up to PHAD my #1 tech/diagnostician channel, thanks for all you do.
Ivan from phad akways says these modren cars are computers on wheels so when electronics gets old they get very tricky and problematic.great diagnostic. Cheers
Thanks for the content. I just started watching your videos and enjoy the information. I too am a fan of Ivan as well "no parts required". One quick question, I do not have a thermal camera, but when I noticed you found the failed component making heat it sparked a thought.....Is that camera sensitive enough to show what fuse is warmer than the others, hence the fuse pulling 6 amps. Maybe not much of a temperature difference to the touch, but with a camera? Just a thought, not sure it would work though...
It sure would be useful if they put a bi-directional option (or "actuation test" - whatever it should be called): to go in each module and force it to shutdown or to manually go to sleep. Then you could simply turn off each module one by one, and simply watch for your power draw to drop out.

What a great case. When going through an auction car, I often wonder what its story is. I'm pretty sure this is fairly common, techs take it to a certain point and then the dealership punts. If it weren't for liability and confidentiality, you'd almost want to leave a little breadcrumb clue, to let the new owner know where to start looking.....
I would have put a label in the glove box that just said the date and "SCCM Defective". Doubt the dealer would care because they only scan it for codes anyway at auction.
You're probably right that the SCCM is the problem but without physically testing it and/or thoroughly inspecting it it can't be 100 percent condemned. I'm sure they aren't cheap and they're possibly on long backorders so it' would be a bad mistake if for some reason it ended up being a wiring issues after all. Thanks for the video!
Would have unplugging the lin bus at the same time let the sccm let it go to sleep? Who wouldn't want to see another gm injector problem. They are never the same. Have a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your loved ones.
I figured you’d have a subscription with a j box since programming is in your RUclips name… looking forward to why you use snap on instead of other scanners
Call customer and advise you have a very good idea what it is but further diag required get 100% and at that point you may as well do the repairs while it is apart
@@autodiagyt Where would an aftermarket system tie in? Wouldn't it need to simulate a key being inserted and turned? I'm just wondering if there wasn't a surprise hiding under the covers causing the module to wake up.
My 2017, ram did this right from purchase at the dealership. Dealership kept telling me nothing was wrong until warranty expired. Now im stuck with it.
Awesome video ::: Quite thorough & strait-2 the point But you may have sold the job( for big money) had you went the X-tra mile and actually proved your diagnosis. thatt the SC_Control module was Really Bad_😮 but Thanks, anyway.
It was pretty much proven. All the inputs to the module are contained with the module. Any way you remove the module from the network the truck would go to sleep. I couldn't think of anything else to test so when you hit that point you make the call and that's what I did.
If it were my truck... I would probably just cut that red power wire that you had your amp clamp on, that goes up to the steering module--- and I'd put it on a switch hanging down on the dash. lol... So that way I could simply turn the switch off when I park the truck, and that would completely kill the power to it.
Way to go!!! you discovered the door is open. It takes 5 seconds to realize that the door open goes through that sequence and that closing the latch does do the same as actually closing the door. You have done a real disservice to the youtube community not to mention the poor people who seem to have trusted you to "fix" this. The one issue that does actually likely caused the problem in the first place is that the battery wont charge if running remote start mode until you press the button. OMG please don't do any of the stuff you are talking about.
I have this issue in my 2020 ram 1500. Dealer can’t seem to find what is causing it. Very detailed video. Thank you.

Right,,,what's the best way to remove the comb connection on a Kia/ Hyundai.
Cool video man keep them coming.thanks have a merry Christmas bro.
@@scotttucker4075 aes wave makes a kit for that to pull comb and connect them all bsck one by one until network falls apart
Do you have a reference video to link us to for a KIA comb as an example? cheers mate@@scotttucker4075

Iwanted to make sure that the problem was resolved, but it doesn't matter. The most important thing is to try. Thank you for your great effort
Great job man and well methodical diagnosis... And yes we want to see the fuel injecor car diagnosis please
a very direct and meaningful approach to trouble shoot the network problem, very knowledgeable tech. Thanks for sharing it.

That sucks. But it was still good information. I felt like paying for the module my self just to see the fix.
Nicely done Jake!
Good approach to pinpoint the culprit.
Muchísimas gracias

I would pull fuses for the different components that are controlled by the module.
Keep up the great content!
Yes I definitely want to see another injector issue story from GM! With the complexity of that system there are many more failure modes to explore!

Given the symptoms, I wondered if you had an aftermarket remote start acting up. I guess we'll never know.

what is the reasoning behind so much going thru radio and abs why a radio can't be a radio and abs only control brake stuff
What’s going on with the pinball machines, Jake?
Any TSBs or recalls on the SCCM?
Not at the time this was recorded. I’m not sure about now
On my 3 oem battery that my truck seems to kill them and dealer can't find the problem so I just keep replacing batteries under the battery warranty
That terrible!
Hi Is that a good battery maintainer to program truck and cars ?
Yes, on the GM junker!!!
Please do video on gm injector

Since I own a Chevy, do the injector video!
how much is the topdon camera
I would take it apart, as long as the customer pays the time for the extra diag, otherwise i wouldn't do it.
