    if you the table specified, you can also in the formula with the table name working. Example: =IF(C4="Total Sales",SUM(table_Apps[Sales]),COUNTA(table_Apps[Apps])).
    Is dynamic and clearer for large tables.

    3:40, “I’m going to directly click on C4”. I am usually a lot more careful when dealing with C4. I tend to treat C4 with the respect it deserves, along with others like range M1:A1, B2, B29, F35 and many other dangerous parts of the spreadsheet. Ok enough of that.
    In the last year I have used a spreadsheet populated with about 6000 rows of data. There are about twenty columns that contain formula that are fairly complicated. I am also using 20 conditional formatting rules to set background color on the cells to make it easier to read and edit the data. Two co-workers that are helping to populate the spreadsheet started complaining that excel is locking up when they do simple operations. It took me a day to figure out that the conditional formatting rules had become fragmented and increased in quantity from 20 to around 200. When I finally got them fixed, the spreadsheet was quick again and the saved file size reduced from 1.5mb to 0.5mb. The cause of the fragmentation was the amount of copy and paste operations, where we were inserting new rows and pasting data, quietly causing more conditional formatting rules to be made. Since the original rules already apply to the cells, pasting creates a duplicate set of rules. Copying those cells and pasting them elsewhere doubles the number of rules again.
    When a version of the spreadsheet got corrupted again, I was able to clean it up easily by deleting all the rules (which caused excel to hang for half an hour), and paste in some cells from the good spreadsheet to bring in the 20 rules.
    It would be nice if excel had a better way to edit conditional formatting rules, like xml import /export or something.

    All of your videos are always i^2, impressive and informative. Good to know that conditional formatting over rides the usual cell formatting like bold / italics etc. However the video that I really liked is the one about formatting using usual Ctrl+1. Cheers

    When I was working with "Conditional formating" and then copying to other cells I remember I had problem with these relative and absolute addresses. Unfortunatelly I do not remember what it was. But I am avoiding it since...

    • @LeilaGharani
      @LeilaGharani  5 лет назад +1

      It's actually better to avoid conditional formatting wherever you can - too much of it, slows down your spreadsheet. As you've discovered, condtional formatting can be really tricky regarding the absolute and relative formatting as you need to write the rule from the point of view of the first cell...

    At 6:10 it looks like you lost the BOLD format when you select “Count of Apps”. I didn’t see you change anything. Did making the data a table or adding additional data to the table cause that? Did you notice it? Thank you!

    • @LeilaGharani
      @LeilaGharani  5 лет назад

      You caught an interesting bug here. If I use table referencing the bold stays when I add new data to the table. If I don't use table referencing and want the bold to stay when I add new data, I need to add a new conditional format that makes the cell bold if the selection cell is "count of apps".

    Anyone know how to setup an conditional format to highlight (i.e. format) the 1st unique rows of organised table?
    Thought I would try my luck here as I can not find how to do this anywhere
    Example:
    A B C
    1 USA Fred 2019 Sales
    2 USA Fred 2020 Budget
    3 USA Fred 2020 Sales
    4
    5 USA Ted 2020 Budget
    6 USA Ted 2020 Sales
    So in this example I would like to format row 1 and row 5 only as they are the 1st unique rows respectively.
    There will be some blank rows inbetween that should be ignored.
    I thought I the following link was the answer, but it does not seem to achieve what I need, but might give some reference:
    www.masterdataanalysis.com/ms-excel/7-tips-deal-duplicates-ms-excel/#highlight_four
    Thanks for any help in advance.
