    • @MaxShibby
      @MaxShibby Год назад +8

@PeaceNLove Indeed. I have to disagree with Jordan on this one, that the attractiveness of a faith’s adherents is proof of the faith, because, as you said, no one is perfect. It is definitely a good general indicator, but certainly not proof, per se. The attractiveness of religious adherents is generally based on how mature they are in the faith, so if you interact with an immature, selfish, struggling Christian, you could be turned off Christianity entirely - if that’s your measuring stick. Does that mean the religion is therefore false? As apostle Paul would say, “by no means!”
I am a Christian, but I struggle greatly at times with some of my besetting sins and it pains me to think that someone would observe me and reject Christianity based on my sinfulness. Jesus came for the sick, not the healthy. Jesus is the example, not me. Although I pray to be the best shining light that I can be. If I can’t be a great example, at the very least I can show humility.

Well, prof Peterson has a point actually. Yes, all people do make stupid things and sin all the time, but even there there is a gradation, right?
You can't really say you'll become a christian because of Charlie Manson (probably baptized when he was a kid), but you're damn sure you'll want to become a christian if you meet, say, St Nicholas or Porphyrios of Kafsokalyvia.
We are all God's disciples. If people, judging from our actions, don't see anything special about Christ, it is ON US. This christian teaching is as old as the Bible, my friend!
"You are the salt of the Earth", "You are the light of the world"...etc. Small amount of people is worthy of this. Peterson is spot on on this!

    • @MaxShibby
      @MaxShibby Год назад +1

@@Nemija I love what you said! And I actually agree with basically all of it! I guess it was JP’s use of the word “proof” that put me off a bit. As Christian’s we are totally supposed to be a light to the world - that is 100% what happens when we are truly led by the Holy Spirit. I guess my perspective of JP’s comment was, if someone is looking at how brightly someone shines in order to choose which religion to believe, as proof of its validity…. I dunno. What if that person they’re looking at falls into sin at some point and becomes a poor example? I don’t think that proves that it’s false. Some of my kindest most generous friends are atheists. Is that proof there is no God? No. Absolutely Christian’s should shine, but I hesitate to call it proof as Christian’s also are susceptible to sin and can fall. So that’s why I said it’s definitely an indicator, but it’s one of many that are “proof” of Christianity.

I know, I know. People are simply like that. They will look at (into) you and subconsciously look for your God, or any other value / virtue that you preach publicly.

Exactly. Muslims only want to be taken seriously in the west and for that they are trying to rally support. They can't see that Muslim majority countries are doing the worst at this point in time. As far as I understand Islam the prophet didn't ask for expansion of religion across the universe, he wanted social justice. That's not possible if privileged Muslims run away from their problems and pursue even greater privileges in the west. The western society looking down on us is a consequence of our own selfishness and lack of compassion towards people of our own ummah. Having JP come over to our faith won't help.

@@khedimimohamednazim1839 - Jesus Christ isn't saying in this particular verse in John 17: 3 to worship.
He is saying in this particular verse what ETERNAL LIFE is about.
Eternal life is knowing the Father and the Son to make John 17: 3 short.
So, why aren't you listening to him to know the Father and the Son?
Without knowing the Son, nobody can know the Father.
      Matthew 11: 27,
" All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him"
So, why haven't you known the Son to know the Father?
You know that Muhammad married his adopted son's wife Zaynab after her divorce from Zayd.
Zayd didn't have any right to divorce his wife Zaynab according to Jesus Christ in Matthew 5: 32 and Muhammad did not have any right to marry Zaynab according to Jesus Christ in Matthew 5: 32.
      You may ask why.
Jesus Christ taught that the REASON for divorce is sexual immorality.
That is, if you cheat your spouse by sleeping with someone else while you are married, you have committed sexual immorality.
Zaynab never did that while she was married to Zayd. Yet, Zayd divorced a sexually faithful woman and Muhammad married her and thus Zaynab became the victim of adultery by her marriage to Muhammad and Muhammad is the adulterer responsible for it in the name of marriage.
In short, you can't just divorce your spouse just because you don't like her or him anymore according to Jesus Christ. It has to be for a valid reason and the reason being sexual immorality aka sexual unfaithfulness.
That never happened and hence, in God's eyes (since Jesus said his teachings came from the Father), Muhammad married a woman who was still married in God's eyes even though there was divorce and remarriage in man's eyes.
Now, let us read Matthew 5: 32 from Jesus Christ,
"But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and
whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery."
Let's apply Muhammad's life into Matthew 5: 32 and see what happens here.
But I say to you that everyone (Zayd) who divorces his wife (Zaynab), except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her (Zaynab) commit adultery, and
whoever (Muhammad) marries a divorced woman (Zaynab) commits adultery.
So, Christ teaches us that Muhammad is an adulterer in God's eyes. So, why are you not listening to Christ to know the Father who spoke through him?
John 7: 16, "Jesus answered, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me."
So, basically, why aren't you listening to the Father's teachings that people like Muhammad is an adulterer?

That sounds really nice and i somewhat agree, but the truth is way beyond tolerance, each faith has it's own practices...., and so people must do some research and see which faith is actually the truth, doesn't matter if you grew up in a Christian family or Jewish family or muslim family, the same applies in every situation, seeking the truth, what's crazy is that in the Christian side of the world it is always conveyed that people should not seek the truth outside of themselves, and i mean religion by saying that, but as someone who was a Christian and then became an atheist because Christianity just doesn't make any sense and the amount of historical and scientific mistakes in the Bible was overwhelming to me that had to say this is definitely not from god the all knowing, about 3 years ago i came by a video on youtube which was a debate between a muslim and a very known atheist, the way the muslim guy answered every question and made me realize that the world nust not come from nothing, made me do more research and in the time of the pandemic since i had a lot of time, i dove deeper in the islamic faith, and became a muslim not a very long time ago, what I'm trying to say is, trying to just find the similarities can never be the only true solution, people must reunite and be one even if it sounds impossible, but religion is the best first step.

The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness about me, but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. Matthew was one the 12 original apostles and thus an eyewitness to the ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
      John
John (who wrote the Gospel of John, the 3 letters of John, and Revelation) was one of the 12 original apostles and an eyewitness to the ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus. He grew up in a family of commercial fisherman on the Sea of Galilee, and when Jesus called him and his brother James to follow him, they left the family business to become his disciple
      James
The author of James was (most likely) James the brother of Jesus. Based on the order in which the brothers are listed in Matthew 13:55, James is the next oldest son of Joseph and Mary after Jesus. During his ministry, James (and his other brothers) misunderstood Jesus’ purpose and was skeptical of him (John 7:5). But after his resurrection, Jesus appeared to James (1 Corinthians 15:7), and this led James to believe in him.
      Peter
Peter was one of the 12 original apostles and an eyewitness to the ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus. In fact, he and his brother Andrew were two of the very first followers of Jesus (John 1:40-41). His hometown was Bethsaida, and he and his brother were commercial fisherman on the Sea of Galilee.
      Jesus said to him
“Have I been with you so long,
and you still do not know me, Philip?Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not
believe that I am in the Father and
the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.
      John 14:9-10
      Jesus was the Word -
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
      John 1:3
In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
      John 1:4‭-‬5
      God became flesh Jesus
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
      John 1:14

I did the same amongst Muslims friends in mosques. To me all religions and faith meet at the same core. We realize how we are similar when we talk to each other and truly listen to one another. The way we live our faith might differ in its form but the content of our faith is similarly the same when practiced for the right reasons I think and that is to remind ourselves or to contemplate the very humble idea that something is greater than us.

The number one principle within that set though, has to be integrity. Living what you believe. He admits he doesn’t have all of the answers in almost every interaction. But he will tell you what he thinks and you can watch his wheels turn as he comes up with an answer based on the rest of his values, even when he clearly may never have formed an opinion on the subject.

But geez, yano after hearing how honorable, humble, kind & gracious JP was, you really think you'd follow his lead because its very evident your message was intended to be offensive but you failed with that and instead, just showed how ignorant you are to Islam and how in fact you haven't learned all that much about it really or you'd not have said what you did. In no sense did they try to insult Christianity in this video, nor was it a battle of the God's, you could have simply stated you're happy, content and fulfilled with your faith as a Christian, thats something Muslims admire about true Christians, its not a competition, such a shame you had to imply bitterness.. act superior & attempt to cause offense. Just because there are differences between our faiths doesn't take wy from the fact we share a lot of similarities, perhaps it'll do people more good to focus on that and be respectful in future.

Not true. In logic, we sometimes refer to 'necessary' and 'sufficient'. It could be the case that for a particular recipe, water is 'necessary' in order to create the food that results from the recipe. But, if water is all we have, it isn't 'sufficient' to produce that food. In your comment, the 'acting in accordance' part is like the water: it may be 'necessary' action that's consistent with what the religion may require, but it's almost certainly not 'sufficient' to 'qualify' one as 'part of that religion'.

I think Mohammed Hijab was not the best person for this interview, his approach seemed desperate and his proposition sounded like a trap. JP has a wealth of knowledge and experience in human behavior, he's a master at reading body language, you need to bring someone of high caliber. Someone knowledgeable who can introduce Islam, answer any questions, and leave him to come up with his own conclusions. The conversation JP had with Hamza Yusuf was more influential and effective. JP may very well have another successful conversation if he meets with someone like Paul Williams of Blogging Theology. All we need to do is present Islamic facts and it's up to God to guide.

Hijab had little option because the podcast's style was in JP condition. In addition, the second podcast topic was how to build bridges. He's merely avoiding to debate Mohammad Hijab.
