      Fun fact: In his biography, Kapustin said he hated comparisons with Gershwin, he didn't hold him in high regard at all.

      @@adlfm During an interview with Andre Marc Hamelin, Kapustin mentioned a great admiration for Oscar Peterson.

      @@adlfm Martin Taylor, a great guitarist, listed people who he admired and influenced him. He DID NOT mention Joe Pass!! Astounding! They are quite similar, but Pass came first. Egos. In some ways Taylor has surpassed Pass!

      Rachmaninov's 3rd piano concerto is untouchable. nothings close, at least in the early part of the 20th. Convince me otherwise

    This is only the second Kasputin piece I've heard, and both are great. This guy is amazing

    So in love with Kapustin music which is the best piano jazz music I've ever heard. All the atonal harmony and rhythms are incomparable and so inspiring to listen to!

      there’s definitely some nonfunctional stuff in there, but yeah personally wouldn’t describe it as atonal

    19:22 The A theme from the rondo-finale played by the strings is so badass. And the raillery-like transition between 20:10 to 20:32 is so thrilling! This finale is the best I've heard from a piano concerto that was composed towards the end of the 20th century.

    16:15 before theme turns, a dreamy melody is shortly heard like Scriabin's mystic chords. Although it's only for a moment, this part makes me fall into a deeper appreciation.

    I wasn't expecting much from the recording. Wow. Swing is great. Way more percussion compared to the Ludmil recording. Pedaling is fantastic

    Could you tell me where this score comes from? Because there are many wrong notes and the layout seems amateur, although I know many Kapustin's scores have wrong notes...

    I was going to use this video to learn this piece, but then I found out that the sheet music in the video is completely wrong. There are wrong notes in every measure that I've tried to learn so far, it's unbelievable...

    So dissapointing that the other score video of this work, with the recording by Ludmil Angelov has been privated. That recording is still in my opinion far better, despite the poorer sound quality. Luckily you can still find it on youtube, on Angelov's own RUclips channel spread across two videos, but it's now much more hidden. I find Dupree to be too fast for me personally.

    The playing, while technically perfect, is a bit too robotic for my liking, almost like a computer's playing it, but it's nice to hear a professional recording of this nonetheless!

      You might want to check for another composer then, since if you ever heard Kapustin play his own compositions you would know this is the most correct way to play his concerto.
