5 cylinders never sounded so good. Never owned a Quattro, but did own a Focus ST.. now have a new Focus RS. Both 2.5L 5 cylinder turbo. I am addicted to the sound!

bloody hell balls out! it was picking up a rear inside wheel a couple of times in the tighter corners and was a bit squirrelly under breaking but the [very good] driver held it together and thats what counts.

You pump the throttle to keep the turbo spinning to reduce turbo lag, if this was a naturally aspirated car then the smooth approach would be faster but in the 80's there was anti lag, the same technique was used in f1 with the turbo cars. Each car requires a different approach. Read up on mikkula, stig blonquist, Michelle mouton, senna, picquet, etc.

I've watched many Beres videos just because i'm a fan of the S1 and sound but theres no question he is a very "rough" driver. The smoother and more precise a driver can be with throttle and brakes the faster you will be, he by no means is as fast as he or the car could be.

I am a racer, and if I showed this video to any of my racer mates they would agree that car has huge understeer and the driver jabs the throttle like mike tyson. watch a video of the group b drivers in s1' - they did not do what this guy/car does. however ignorance is bliss, so yeh this guys a genius

Zykzie such a patronising git, yeh 22 years is a decent amount of time in the sport, however you seem to have jumped to the conclusion this makes you better at analysis than anyone else. how many other drivers and teams beat you with 3 years experience? it's being analytical that counts, not years. my grandma used to say she was right cos she was wiser and had more experience at things, it was bollocks. I am 32, and have been racing since I was 8, so that's 24 years anyway. Overall its a very fast car and you have to be brave and talented to drive one fully out but like i said, even a fast car like the Audi s1 had its well not so usefull sides like a heavy front and stiff 4wd system but for me its a part of its charm.
. This sounds amazing . But I've got to laugh at some of the comments made about the guys driving , probably written by people who've never driven anything really quick .
not just really quick , they never driven something without TCS ,ABS , Active Yaw Control and other assistance systems . This is totally raw and those inexperienced guys see the driver "fighting" to put the car in a straight line and they think " what an amateur" when in reality it happens the exact opposite !!!!

Maybe its easier for him to drive when it understeers? Anyone thought about that? And the original s1 understeered as well, because its so front heavy.
In my opinion the car looks pretty balanced, when he gets on the gas it starts to oversteer..
definitely easier to drive with understeer, that's why all modern road cars sold to ordinary people are front wheel drive, you are much more likely to correct understeer than oversteer if a driver is not confident. the s1 is front heavy and will understeer if 4 wheel drift is not induced, the group b guys 4 wheel drifted them everywhere

But 4wd can be drived mostly both like fwd or rwd. In this case that audi has so much weight on its nose that it is needed to drive like fwd. This car has too weak rebound on rear dampers that it is locking brakes at the rear when braking. You can compare this car suspension working to original Group B s1. They used to have great rebound on front and rear to make sure weight moves while accelerating and braking. At the end, straight 5-cylinder weights too much at the front.need to move backward
he's tapping the gas in order to keep the engine in the max power-band, otherwise it would mean losing time when going uphill.

where is the legendary turbo sound????????????????
there is no turbo flutter because he is running a bypass valve or blow off valve. The original s1's did not run these. That flutter noise is the compressor stalling, and its actually quite bad for the turbo.

for the guys saying that he shouldn't tap the accelerator while in corners. this car has a turbo and it needs to be in high revs all the time in order to avoid turbo lag when accelerating out of the corner and sliding out of the road . for every car, surface and condition, a different style is needed. you can't drive a rally car like you drive a circuit asphalt car.

danelio you're right, I am not a cocaine baron like the other gentleman, but that car is understeering like a pig at every corner, possibly because of the weight/set up, maybe the delivery of power - jabbing the throttle then backing out of it (my opinion) I am certain I would shit my pants if I was a passenger in that car, it looks like there is something amiss with it! and i'd much rather be a passenger in a car that is more in control than this one! compare this video with a rallycross or group b video
Pablo Escobar Car indeed understeers, way too much for a race car and has nothing to do with his driving skills, only if they are too bad to face well balanced setup which is harder to drive.

I would say that this guy drove it good, but he drove it in another way than they did back in the 80s with the real ones. Yes the car understeered much in this video and so did the real ones in the 80s but maybe not like this. If you watch the 80s group B videos you could see that it had problems on very twisty tarmac, specially in the hairpins but on easy turns and straight lines on tarmac and specielly on snow and gravel it was very fast.
It's not the understeer. It's that his telemetry was awful. When you corner you aren't supposed to get on the gas until you know you wont need to let off it again. That's 101. But he goes on and off and on and off and on again in what seems like every corner. At one point it even looks like he locks up the brakes.
I appreciate the video of this amazing car all the same though.
Welcome to 4WD :P And that's also why this car isn't that fast in tarmac - because he can't drift unless he has gigantic balls, like they did, in the 80s.

Get real mate, unless you've got any videos of yourself driving better in a competition you're just another wannabe know it all who thinks his opinions is gods given right and that everyone should believe its correct because you said it was. If you had any sense and actually knew what you were talking about you would know that this car in particular was synonymous for turbo lag and having his foot on and off the throttle during corners is to keep the turbo spooling otherwise he would lose revs which in turn means less power, less speed and time lost.

its because the Group B did not have a 4wd system that allowed rear wheel handbrakes.
now with modern AWD systems, one can handrbake to make their turn tighter.
in Group be you could only do foot braking

This is just poor replica of S1! ive seen that on rally Show in my city, and it has nothing incommon with the real S1, it looks different, Driver was not able to say from which car is his motor, its also rebuilt on RWD not AWD to doing big powerslides... This car is absoluttelly undriveable!! Its only quite expensive piece of shit for fun :)

po pierwsze to Równie i Który sie pisze przez takie Ó a po drugie to czy Audi w swoim czasie było kiepskie to raczej nie Tobie znawco osądzać bo mistrza świata zdobyło a że póżniej na tle innych było za cieżkie to inna sprawa a niestety S1 jak sie pojawiło to B grupa po wypadku (napewno wiesz Kogo) została wycofana i proponuje doczytać co robiły Audi 90 w USA i ile zdobyły a były to auta żywcem robione z B grupowych kiepskich wg. Ciebie rajdówek ...
