- San Bernardino County deputies arrested multiple people for trying to steal from a freight train at the Cajon Pass in what resembled a scene from an old western movie.
If train robberies hearken back to Old West days, maybe Old West punishment should be doled out?

Yrs ago when I worked for the RR we had a train with federal cargo guarded by US agents . When it was in the Chicago area a gang tried breaking into the particular car. They died

@@davinxi5926 If I remember right, it's a really old law, but I think robbing trains is federal, even if you don't cross state lines. If they are charged in a Federal crime, there usually isn't much leeway for pleas.

I remember years ago I used to fish at the Mojave narrows at night. Lots of train activity right next to the lake, they would stop and the hobo's would jump off the trains and use the campground facilities. They had constant security driving the roads next to the tracks. One early morning about 3am the sheriff came walking through, scared the crap out of me because there is no night fishing there. They said no sweat and kept pushing, they were looking for someone. Apparently there was someone taking the horses from the riding stable, walking them down to the marsh and having sex with them. They busted this fool and raided his apartment where they found a fake horse hind quarter in the living room. He was released on bail and did it again, they sent him to the joint for 5 years.

I worked as a conductor for BNSF for several years. Weird to hear the report of someone stopping the train. Once you lock that engine door from the inside, the only one who can stop the train is the crew.
Would cutting the brake lines for the cars effectively stop the train? Also I think they should have cars with armed guards in them throughout the consist but that’s just me as I know that would be too expensive to do.

If they forcibly stopped the train as stated in the segment, it would be robbery, a serious felony, and not the lesser offense of burglary, which may be charged as a misdemeanor.

I've lived next to a union Pacific rail way my entire life and I never saw this not even in the '70s and late '60s. And I certainly didn't see this during the orange guy era.
