We have a 2010 right now at about 145k miles. We love it. How much of an upgrade was it from 2010 to 2017?

    • @Oivey2000

@@Al-nj6ww Loved my 2010. There were some strategic reasons for going to the 2017, or else I would have kept the 2010, but to be honest it wasn't too much of an upgrade in terms of ride comfort & handling. Some of the mechanics are different, the body & interior are redesigned and there are some upgraded/new features that the 2010 didn't have, but I'd keep your 2010 as long as you can.

You completely ignored the Honda's timing belt, direct injection, and yet another new transmission. While Toyota stays with bullet proof timing chains, combination direct injection on top of port injection eliminating the carbon buildup problem, and very well proven Aisin transmissions.
These things don’t matter if you trade in 2-3 years. But if you buy at 80k or more and plan to run to 250k, these are very important factors.

Pass on it, I have a 2022 w/Advanced and my dad has 2017 RX the fully loaded one with the overpriced interior and sound system only available in 2017. The RX is a much better car in nearly all respects. Actually my dad dropped me off at RSW airport yesterday (Fort Myers) and I noticed how much more intuitive the navigation system and central console was. The map is very dynamic and has three parts, the left side shows current on route close up, the right side shows on route overhead zoomed out and the center display shows the next few turns and mileage and pertinent info. When you stop at a light, the left and center screens become your front and surround cameras while the right screen overlays your on route navigation directions. Try that on the 2022 MDX…. Acura had years to get things right in their new flagship and failed in several critical areas.

Good comparison - but unless I missed it, you didn't say the Lexus was more comfortable than the Acura - RX has softer ride combined with very comfortable seats (which you DID mention). Acura is going for better handling and more 'sporty' experience. That's a big differentiating factor. Also, I don't know if the Acura engine has only direct injection (GDI) or has the addition of port injection like the RX which keeps the valves clean and avoids that maintenance area.

I'd go with the MDX simply because they both offer good reliability and durability. However the new MDX also utilizes the best front clip steering system with the double wishbone front clip. That alone makes it a far better handling SUV in my mind. The RX is just kinda boring at this time. The MDX being the new kid in town just appears to be a far more compelling option. Priced similarly, I go with the MDX with that great super handling all wheel drive train. Just about the best all wheel drive platform in the marketplace these days.

I bought the 2022 MDX platinum elite after much research and the main reason was price, comparable luxury quality and the cargo space, when compared to the competition. My previous vehicle was a 2017 RDX which had a V6 and was a very reliable SUV. The new RDX 2021 is powered by a 272-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four. I agree with your comments on reliability for both Acura and Lexus and the naturally asperated 3.5 liter engine in the Acura MDX over a turbo charged 3 liter engine in the MDX Type S soon to be released. I am undecided between these two, and believe it or not, the new highlander as well. I prefer the seating in RX (same as Highlander 2017-2019) as it’s very deep, however, MDX seems sportier with the upgrader infotainment and that adjustable middle seat in the second row is a great feature. Although not as classy central consol (I personally find it nice), Highlander has great central screen, space usability, and I believe it shares the same v6 engine with the Lexus (perhaps Lexus’ engine slightly different tuning , better). I also heard Lexus will be redesigning the rx model but will it still have 6 cylinder engine?
I like the handling on the mdx, but RX is not lagging behind with their smooths transmission.
Can anyone shed some light, share their opinion, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2016 RX450h that replaced the 2006 RX400h that got totalled while parked. They both have CVTs. I like the LRV like shiftless drive. Some like paddles and gear shifting. The 2006 was peppier and I like the ride. I have gotten used to the 2016 ride. Too taut for me. The 2006 had about 70K on it. The auto body shop bought it from me. The 2016 hasn't reached 20K yet. Acura turns up its nose at Hybrids before and now after briefly offering them. I can still remember the Honda Insight. I do city driving and a lot of idling. Back when I would drive for weekends between Boston and Montreal, carrying a traction battery isn't that helpful...there is electric assist up the hills, and regeneration down the hilly terrain. And now there is a V8 gas Tesla...convert a Tesla Model S into a combustion-powered sedan with a Chevy Camaro V8 hiding under the frunk! Yes frunk. Frunk is a popular portmanteau of front and trunk referring to cars that have their storage spaces in the front rather than in the rear.

The perfect car would be the RX350 with the MDX technology. Lexus and Toyota are so far behind Honda/Acura with the screens/ navigation/ wireless Apple CarPlay, etc. While the MDX is beautiful and sporty, I don’t think of sporty when I think of luxury, especially with an SUV. Test drove the RX and it is as smooth and quiet and luxurious as you can imagine. However, the screen in between my gas and speedometer is tiny and confusing. The only thing worse is the main screen which looks like I’m playing Super Mario brothers on an Atari. I ended up buying the Acura simply because the base model comes with everything I love standard. It has a fully digital and beautiful gauge cluster. Then the main screen is 12.3 and hi-res. Panoramic moonroof, wireless CarPlay. All standard in the base model instead of paying extra on the RX. The only thing I don’t like is the ride is a little harsher than the RX and not as quiet.
