Sword Design: What's the Recurve For?

What's slicier than a curved blade? A recurved blade of course... twice the sliciness!
Ok, hold your horses... how much of a difference does it really make? And why would you curve the handle in the opposite direction? Time to over-think and nerd out, I guess.
