It’s interesting that Lizzy feels “Five Seconds Flat” was in some ways inauthentic, because having listened to and appreciated all of her work, including the current collection, “Five Seconds Flat” felt the most moving and also the most melodically compelling to me. It goes to show you art is completely in the eye of the beholder.
Honestly same. For me that’s a perfect album, one of the best albums I’ve ever listened to. Don’t get me wrong, I am so happy for her that she’s moved on to something that feels more true to her, and Older is an incredible album, but geez five seconds flat is one of the best albums I’ve ever heard in my life
this is so interesting and so true! I felt like GMaM was more Lizzy than 5SF was.I felt like five seconds flat was so obviously a production. don't get me wrong, i love ALL of the songs on that album, and erase me and all my ghosts are some of my favorite songs of all time, but something about Give Me A Minute felt so personal and intimate. And then Older came out, and I listened to it once casually, then again paying attention to the back half because the B-side of that album absolutely nuts. And then a 3rd time listening to the front side, and finally listening to it the 4th time, I immediately cried. Older, for me, is one of the most personal, intimate, and vulnerable albums I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Older isn't just a collection of songs. Its a story being told from in its entirety. As she says, is the last thing she has to say about this 9 year relationship, and she quite literally told us everything that happened in it in the most creative and intimate way she could, and for me its so beautiful.
Same, and I’m happy for her NO ONE should be forced to make or perform art that doesn’t represent them, but now I’m selling my tickets to a five-hour-away show at a loss. I wish this interview came out before I bought them.
LOVEEEEE that she chose to evolve regardless of what other artists do or what a label might advise her to do with releasing a deluxe version etc. YES LIZZY ❤️
this album is beautiful in every way. the lyrics and the meaning behind them are amazing but the actual sound of the songs- omg. i actually felt like i was being transported to a different realm while listening. absolutely insane and incredibly life changing. truly a work of art.
Seriously. I especially feel that way about You Forced Me To… it transports me into this kind of haunted, creepily happy (someone described it as a funhouse) vibes, but it’s so beautiful.. I can’t believe it’s just her demo. ELIZABETH MCALPINE, thank you for keeping that one on the album. & don’t think of depriving us of your musical genius ever again😅😂
I feel what she's saying about the band adding life to the songs. The instrumentals were the first thing that caught my attention in this album, it's so good.
It's so weird to say but she is one of the only true singer songwriters in the popular sphere. I love that she made a record with a band. It's so much better. In this age of AI generated everything, there is nothing like the magic of people in a room doing something together. We want to empathize with artists and Lizzy allows us to put ourselves in her shoes when she writes and sings!
@@shra6650 I think that is fair. To me FSF feels like an amazing product. It is a beautiful piece of art, it's very well written, and amazingly well produced. It's a very vivid and theatrical product. But I think that's the distinction shes making. It was a theatrical product and not a piece of her art quite yet. She was young and still is young and is still evolving. Personally I love this album, but it makes me super excited for her future. I feel like she's found her voice and her sound and I'm excited to see her writing evolve.

oh my gosh, i was listening to this album and thinking omg did ryan beatty work on this? i checked the credits and everything then her saying that she worked with his band makes perfect sense.
no seriously i could make a whole ted talk about the ryan beatty-ification of her new music like she’s used the same band that he used on tour, she’s constantly commenting on his social media, and her pen game is becoming more reflective just like his. No one is talking about it, like i’ve followed both of them since early 2020 and i want to see a collab since they’re so similar in style now but i can only hope for now
me tooooo!! the way she talked about how she wants to rearrange her fsf songs for this tour made me think sooo much of ryan’s show and how he reworks older tracks into the calico sound. freaking magicallllll.
lizzy's growth is inspiring. Older, as a music album definitely showcases her evolution which makes me proud to be a fan. Happy that she feels good about what is released and for the upcoming tour
The sound is very different to her previous works. It’s a slow burn but overall the warmth and depth was killer. Older is her best song and a timeless one. The album is cohesive and mature. The album feels like an album track album with not many songs that stand out like Older and I Guess. I still liked it a lot and is a really good set of songs to add to her repertoire/set
I loooove Lizzy and I'm so happy she's happier now ❤ but I have to be honest, as a five seconds flat super fan, my first couple of listenings of her new album was not love at first sight (and maybe that's good) BUT I immediately saved All Falls Down, Broken Glass and You Forced Me To. Looooove these songs!!!!! I hope the album grows on me in the future... maybe when the winter arrives in a couple of months :)
Update: This weekend it happened, I felt super anxious for the first time in a veeeeeeery long time and this album helped me with its chill melodies. I finally got it ❤
Her best yet is older. Just finished listening to it.. really great. Reminds me of the days of sharing little clips on her insta or vlogs when she was still in school in Valencia .. very organic feel. excellent.
after hearing the album, i'm THRILLED that i got tickets to see her in october 🤭 lowkey hope she plays doomsday because my show is on october 31st! (though of course i understand she doesn't want to do a lot of five seconds flat material. i'll be happy either way tbh)
I listened to Older before I listened to Five Seconds Flat, and I ended up listening to almost all of your discography, by now. I really love and relate to you as a musician and person, Lizzy. I’ve been visiting/interning at a recording studio and have already heard from the person I’m working under that they think you’re a real musician with great lyricism. He even showed another artist, to me, he’s helping that has been influenced by you. I think it’s great that you speak your truth through it all. I really hope that the rest of the tour goes well and that you end up enjoying it better than the last one! Lots of love from MD ❤! Stay true to you!
So bummed that she doesn’t look back on her second album fondly because not only was it the album that introduced me to her, it’s far and away my favorite body of work she’s released so far, Older included. All My Ghosts and Orange Show Speedway particularly really connect with me and feel so earnest, so to hear that she feels it’s a disingenuous record that doesn’t really represent her as an artist is really a bummer.
Coming from somebody that discovered her in her Give Me A Minute era, five seconds flat was a great redirect, but the Older production has definitely felt more her and less bombastic and less loud angst teen than ffs. Don’t get me wrong, I loveeee her third album, ffs (when she took Indigo, her first album, off streaming I was sooooo upset) but I prefer her being authentic, reflecting on herself, and having musician’s autonomy by not aligning with songs the way she used to. Honestly most artists feel that way because most songwriters can write for forever and still be 4 years behind in the story they want to tell. They just don’t talk about it because fanbases get hostile once you say you’ve changed. But Apple Pie, Over the Ocean Call, called you again, and Staying are my overall favorites.
While I’m so glad that she’s found a space that she feels is more true for her, and while I think that space (and her latest album) is incredible, I have to agree that five seconds flat is my personal favorite album of hers - in fact, it’s a perfect album imo, something I don’t say often about an album.

I’m surprised that 5SF became as important to me as it has, and I still have to listen to a good handful of it every week. Those songs give me something I don’t think any other artist has given which is so special. To hear that performing those songs live felt inauthentic to her as an artist saddens me a bit. All My Ghosts, Reckless Driving, and Orange Show Speedway have such infectious energies and great melodies, and so many others have drama, emotion, and theatricality. Just a stellar body of work imo. A bit of a bummer that the she may not enjoy performing those songs anymore, but it’s always healthier for an artist to move onto things that fulfill them more. I’m happy she’s in a better place and working towards a more sustainable touring schedule. It’s taken me longer to get into Older admittedly as I’m not usually someone who has the patience for a slower, more intimate record (I come from a rock/punk background). But it’s growing on me every day and songs like All Falls Down, Broken Glass, Better Than This, Vortex, and Come Down Soon have endeared me enough to continue to let it grow. Lizzy’s a special talent and I’m proud of her 💛

@@Rubz3211i mean she literally said that with FSF her goal was to just do things that were popular but that made the record inauthentic to herself. I think she's trying to be more of an artist rather than a celebrity right now. Artists are allowed to grow in different ways and as fans shouldn't we be supportive of their growth in mental maturity?
@@abeharhar I never said I wasn't being supportive. I'm sure many artists don't resonate with their previous albums, especially their early ones. I just think it's an odd move to so publicly distance yourself from the work that brought the majority of your fans in.
I discovered her when she released GMAM and I love it, FSF does have more teenage vibes lyrically but production is great and I like it because of that.. also her collabs in that album are beautiful. I feel like Lizzy is gonna regret in a couple years to have said this.
I wonder what kind of zip up hoodie she is wearing because I want one sooo bad and I love her Interview she seems legit but also clueless and still a child at 24.....just saying and it seems like she really isn't fully invested into this whole "music industry". She will be a one hit wonder believe me on that.
Love her music, but in all the interviews I've seen she always tries so hard to be different and never has good answers to explain why her music is now 'different,' even though there's literally not a huge difference between Older and her previous album. Her answer about the 'energy' being different with the other bands is like okay? There's also a way to evolve without being perpetually negative and regretting who you've resonated with at the time
I mean… can you seriously pick any song on this album and tell me how the production sounds like Doomsday or Erase Me? The songwriting is similar, sure, it’s the same person. But sonically?
she was just honest. I believe she knows her craft. And its kinda basic right, If you think you its doesnt feel right and it will not gonna work to make your craft magical, you can always change it. And importantly, you said theres no difference from the old to the new, THERE is a huge different. You should definitely find the difference because I believe there is.
She’s way too precious about her work and her “feelings”. People are going to your shows to hear songs they know, not just the new stuff. Get over yourself.
I think she has the right to play whatever she wants, it’s her show. However I do agree that her shitting on her old work is unnecessary and alienates her fanbase. Just comes off very stand offish
@@boystupid2324 as a fan i feel sad that she wont perform any songs from ffs as i love that album but if i imagine myself as her, the artist and disliking your older music , its best that she performs what she wants to bcus if she has a difficult or negative relationship with her past music its gonna be evident in her performance. as a fan i want to see the artist comfortable and having fun on stage not reluctantly playing a song, looking like she would rather be anywhere else yk

Agreed. It’s a very negative view of art
she was just honest. I believe she knows her craft. And its kinda basic right, If you think you its doesnt feel right and it will not gonna work to make your craft magical, you can always change it. And importantly, you said theres no difference from the old to the new, THERE is a huge different. You should definitely find the difference because I believe there is.
funny how stealing someone’s band is how she found “her” sound
@@ginack19 right, she can perform whatever she wants but putting down her past work is not a good look
@@ginack19I bought love tickets before older came out so will be seriously pissed off if she doesn’t play fsf music
She’s annoying
