Hi Finn, just discovered your channel today and I'm so glad I did! First off, congratulations for the book deal you mentioned! I clicked on this video as I did an OU Open degree too, but I changed disciplines the other way: from the humanities to Earth Sciences, ending up with a BSc(Open). I know how hard it is to change your writing (and your thinking!) from one family of disciplines to another but in my own life it's been massively worth it and I use both the humanities & sciences in my everyday life as an educator. My philosophy has always been to never stop learning, and switching disciplines really shakes you out of a mental rut and helps you grow in new and unexpected ways. Major respect for going straight into a level 3 in your new subject too! I remember how tough the transition from level 2 to level 3 in the *same* subject was! I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos. (And yes, I've subscribed!)
Yay! Hello and welcome to the FinnFam! Thank you for your lovely words, yes, a book deal! Thats ampped up the pressure this year! Fabulous though og course! And I absolutely agree with you re shaking up your learning, I have loved how much Ive had to get my noggin to bend to new ideas and concepts! Your philosophy is one I fully agree with! Have you finished your degree now?
@@FinnTheInfinncible *waves* It's lovely to be here! @BeverleyButterfly RTd you and I thought you looked like a nice person 😁. Yes, I finished my BSc about 10 years ago (I was very lucky & completed it before the OU fees rocketed) but it was a 7 year slog P/T as I was teaching FT back then. I live with chronic illness now so I tutor instead and I've found that having some knowledge of a broad range of subjects to be massively useful as I've ended up tutoring everything from KS2 maths to A level Politics! I did a huge variety of courses as part of my open degree: creative writing (at level 1!), history of maths, and a lot of earth sciences courses which ended up making the bulk of my credits. I really love the OU's flexibility. BTW I co-wrote a textbook so know something of the bookwriting process and you have my empathy! It's so cool to be able to say that you wrote a real book though - it's an achievement that will always make you smile!
You're in the perfect place and timing with taking up this Creative Writing module. Sounds like the perfect module to compliment your expanding as a Writer. So excited for these opportunities that develop textures and layers to your craft. It is very you to take a leap of faith that intuitively feels right, especially after first taking some time to carefully think through and weigh up the various outcomes, depending on your choices. So glad your leap has landed on the very thing that helps feed your career direction in the best possible ways.
I'm thinking of swapping from B.A. History to B.A. Hons Creative Writing part time so found this interesting. Good luck, Finn.going to send for that Creative Writing handbook.
My dear Finn yiu have done a good choice, in my opinion! Psicology is an interesting faculty, obviously, but perhaps there’s much therical part. Creative writing gives more possibility to express own ‘interior wirld’ in term of emotions, fantasy, experiences.....in different ways. In Italy, I don’t know if there is something similar in an university faculty but there are some private schools. Sooo ... a new adventure! I admire you also because you never stop yourself ! 😘
Such a lovely comment, thank you! Yes, I love to learn and grow so I am always seeking out new opportunties, even scary ones! I feel that the two very different modules are complementing what I do perfectly, it was such a good choice wasnt it! So glad you agree!
WOW! Congratulations! I never thought you could combine two things, but over here with say "I majored in ____ and minored in ___." My major was print communications and my minor would be in graphic design. I'm so happy for you! 🎉🎊✨🎇🎆 Excellent news! 👍🥰💯 I've just been battling a goof up on my end about insurance lol, nothing interesting here except we have a snowstorm coming and the county union snowplowing people are on strike. Will we get plowed out or not? WHO KNOWS! lol My boyfriend may miss a day or two of work, but overall, pretty boring here haha I can't wait to see where you go with your decisions for changing and such 😀😃😁 after all you are InFinncible!!!
Hello my dear friend. Im so sorry, I missed your comment! Hope you got your insurance sorted? Hows the snow? And thank you, for helping me to own my infinncibility!!!
Great video! I found you after looking into the OU in summer and I’m currently studying towards a degree in psychology and criminology, I’m loving it!!
@@FinnTheInfinncible thanks. Two of the modules I had my eye on for level 2 were 30 credits and they've been discontinued and replaced by one 60 credit one on mental health and counselling, so that may be better for me xx
Here you go! My favorite module has been exploring fear and sadness, loved every second of that! Completed modules Social psychology: critical perspectives on self and others (DD307) Understanding the autism spectrum (SK124) Child development (ED209) Counselling: exploring fear and sadness (D240) Exploring psychology project (DXR222) Exploring psychology (DSE212) Discovering psychology (DSE141) Introducing the social sciences - part one (DD131)
@@FinnTheInfinncible thank you. Yours sound far more interesting than my options now tbh. The fear and sadness one was the module I had my eye on for next year and it has gone 😞 Definitely sounds like there used to be more variation. I'm looking forward to anything to do with mental health and criminology 😁 Thanks again, it's good to see what others have done x
My pleasure.yes, the degree has changed a lot, there are a fair few different psych degree paths now l think. The open degree is great though, as it gives you the flexibility to study whatever you are interested in
Hi , I have had to stop my 2nd Degree, a relapse of my mental health. My Sister got rid of all the OU stuff as it was tormenting me from the Desk. I wish you well . Lots of Hugs for you 😁😁💜
Gonna have to look into the Creative Writing path more, for when I start my degree later on in the year. I'll probably combine it with something like English Language too. Something for me to think about. Ta :-)
I’m on the start of psychology with counselling but I’m struggling I don’t seem to like the social sciences side of it an it doesn’t seem to fit with the career I want but I now don’t know what to do it’s been even harder with the last 8 weeks Of life’s plans for us kids at home and a partner 🤔 all I keep thinking is listen to your video I’d watched you before I’m stuck 🥴🥴
I am sorry you are stuck! Our current situation doesnt help as it is sucking our motivation and drive. Our brains are needing to deal with threat, so there is little left over for learning and study. Have you spoken to student support? They are incredibly helpful. When I got stuck, they really helped me to realise that switching my degreee would help me the most. I went for the open degreee, so that I could have a freer choice of modules. Do give them a ring, its what they are there for. Let me know how you get on!
FinnTheInfinncible thanks so much your so right in everything you said I shall be calling them ASAP I think an open degree will be more beneficial but will let you know how I get on 😊❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I dont know why you havent seen it! And that module, creative writing, was my final module, I have now graduated! Celebratory vlog here : ruclips.net/video/Tv61e_kFFzQ/видео.html
Great video I don’t think here in Ottawa or Canada we have anything like the open University. It seems awesome the way it’s run and organize By the way, what do you think of Harry and Meghan giving up working for the Queen and moving to Canada. People here were pissed off that we might have to pay for their security? Any thoughts or no big deal. Thanks Finn
The OU do operate worlwide so perhaps you can access it there? As for Harry and Megan, goodness what a farce! I can understand what they are doing, but I think they have gone about it in all the wrong ways!
@@FinnTheInfinncible the OU would be great for my son. He struggles from anxiety. I will talk to him about it. He is 19 and trying to figure out life right now and its not easy for him By the way about the Harry situation, the Queen must be pissed off!! I have a feeling Magan isn't helping this much, maybe making it worse?? Who knows. They will be in Canada soon
