I'm interested in Noctua coolers, for use on Xeon server/workstation CPUs. This video, with only 203 likes, is the most underappreciated video on the topic on all of RUclips. Loved the video.
2:51 Those are torx screws, not hex. Torx screws can handle much more torque - as the name implies, without the screwdriver camming out.
They are also designed in such a way that the driver bit will be damaged/broken before the Torx head itself strips, at least in principle.
Philips head was designed so that in automatic operation, the bit cams out of the head when desired torque is reached.
Torx was implemented when automatic torque limiters became common in manufacturing automation, and as you said, they allow applying much greater torque in the same fastener footprint.
It makes a really big difference. In my opinion, anyone who has screwed a philips and torx back to back can tell that.
Personally, I'm a fan of improvement even if it means multiple standards, and I like the push for torx and star bit screws over the past 5 years or so. Economies of scale and all that will make them cheaper.
Still ashamed that I went on for that long without realizing I’m using the wrong word
@@STSYT it isn't a big deal, none of us know (or remember) everything.
@@applepiesapricots3109 Standards are great for multiple reasons, but when something clearly better comes along, that should become the new standard. I wish torx were the standard here in Australia.
Phillips are very average, they are still by far the most common type here in Australia, but the torx screws (what you are calling hex) seem to be quite popular/common in the USA and are generally considered to be much better.
No idea how I managed to use the wrong name for a full video without noticing.
But yeah, I know them because you want these for everything what’s wall mounted. Philips will die way faster than a solid Spax Torx
I am sorry, but running a fan at 1700 rpm is not throttling, and neither is it a low speed. This cooler is supposed to be used with 300-400 rpm fans :)
Throttled was meant as in - everything what’s lower than 100%, but yes, 1700 is still not slow ^^
Yes and no, they are more efficient in that sense, but after some point static pressure may still help a little bit
take a look at the graph at 09:40, I didn’t mark the Scythe Kaze, but they are in there :)
12:19 that's a very good use of the hoarded 2020 toilet rolls!
Just plain old awesome (he whispered...and was heard!)
Thx, Mr. STS
Glad you enjoyed it
My undervolted Ryzen 7700x is set at a maximum PPT of 85 Watt. (5300 base, 5720 boost). So this cooler would match.
Seems like a good match
It should be used without fan in HEDT entuziastic cases, as in tower workstation case fanless CPU, but a case fans and dust filters are there, it would be a real life test for this cooler where its meant to be.
Except for the - with fan - part, it was tested completely open air. I believe that’s also a perfect use case for this one.
Sure, there are many closed fanless cases built for things like this. But whose to say what Noctua intended
This will work better than the micro fan on my Pentium MMX 233
We have alluminum and nickle mines here in Australia decicated to producing the ore for these
How much does it weigh ? , although its alloy it looks heavy.
Is it for a horizontal mounted MOBO ?, or is mounted vertically with it hanging off the board ?
Cheers
1180gm apparently
It’s definitely heavy af, but it can be mounted hanging, the backplate can keep up

What if we added a lot of copper wire in the cooler... bringing the wire outside the case? :P
That thing needs a hood scoop.
NH-P1 + additional non included nf-a12x25-ls-pwm = cost of NH-C14S.
NH-C14S > NH-P1 with nf-a12x25-ls-pwm.
This is some mad math skils
Not sure what exactly you are trying to prove. C14S would not be able to compete with P1 in passive cooling. I keep my 7900 (non-X) approx. 35C above ambient in light workloads. And this CPU has a pretty massive uncore power dissipation (35W+), single CCD AM5 CPUs like 7700 cut this by half.
No way you're able to compete with that with C14S.
4:00 why is this part so hard to print clear in the effing manual Noctua?! I wasted 2 hours finding this info on how to build an AM5 bracket onto my board! Learn from Scythe how to make a manual. Clear and simple.
lemme write that STOB LÜFTEN
i didn't manage the B :(

Thank me later
@@STSYT idk makes empty characters in mine god localization is awful
good video
Thanks
I find the music in the background quite irritating.
Sorry for that! Do you think it's better if we release our new content without music?
@@STSYT Thanks! Either that or at a bit lower of a volume for the music. I have PTSD, and usually have a hard time listening to RUclips videos when people are talking and music is in the background. So there are some videos that I either stop watching or turn off the volume and use Close Caption if possible. That being said, your videos are very good! So I look forward to you making more videos and I hope you get a huge following!
@@louisglen1653 Thanks for letting me know! For the batch in production rn I will remove the music, as we have had a few comments about the music been distracting/irritating. And for the next one I will try to find a good middle ground!
Thank you! Glad you like our content.
@@STSYT Thanks! Yes there is always a good middle ground! Thanks!
Apparently they never heard about AC in post-communist Poland
@STS you need some AC ^^
100%
But not my building ^^
Makes no sense, coil whine is so loud nowadays
Sometimes, sure, my Gainward & Asus cards all have brutal coil whine, the Zotac 4090 we have is fine though.
For mobos, my experience shows, more expensive = less coil whine
I had pretty significant coil whine at idle with my B650E-I, however with some bios tuning (enabled spread spectrum and changed VRM logic to asus optimized) I was able to reduce it to pretty much inaudible.
Good point though, coil whine on most modern boards is more significant than a good quality fan running at 400-500RPM.
screwdriver included, to increase price :)
They needed to add something brown to increase the price
