  • After 10 years of waiting, it is finally here. The Noctua NH-D15 G2 is supposed to be the (new) best Air cooler featuring 8x Heat Pipes, a giant Dual Tower Heatsink, and one of the biggest bases ever seen. But one of the most important updates are the fans! Let's see if the new Noctua NF-A14x25r can get Noctua back to the top of benchmark charts!

      @QualeQualeson 26 дней назад +5

      Looking at GN's tests, it's not just bang for the buck, it's neck and neck with gen2 and even beats it in one aspect (dB@max speed) _with 120mm fans!_ That's a 30 month old cooler competing with a decade of gen2 R&D on performance.
      Noctua didn't have to blow them out of the water, but a clear performance increase had to show to defend that price. Let's say a couple ℃. It didn't even come close, and that's with the best optimal curvature results.

      @@QualeQualeson I'm curious why GN hasn't bothered with the Phantom Spirit. They tested PA 120 mini that came out later but still haven't gotten to PS120.
      Do they think the upcoming Thermalright coolers will blow everything away so they didn't bother with PS120?

    • @QualeQualeson
      @QualeQualeson 25 дней назад

      @@ailluinthethyra6139 There are limits to their workload I guess, and Thermalright tends to flood the market with models. I think people get confused and stick with PA, which to be fair still beats the newer ones in some tests. It becomes a question of bothering with the steady releases of new models unless one causes a real stir I guess, and I'm not sure PS for example has really done that.

      I'd laugh in the new TR new flagship 'Royal Preytor' (terrible name btw) matches or outperform this at a fraction of the cost. Which has been in development for so many years.
      They showed new high end coolers at Computex and said its improved over current PS. With soldered heatpipes, bigger mass and 135+120mm fans. I'd be inclned to believe them. Thermalright must have some damn good heatpipes in their coolers because all of them perform so well regardless of configuration.

    Not worth it. For the "normal" cpus you can get AK620 or Peerless Assassin for third of that price and be 1-2c above. For OC and extreme OC on 14900k or 7950 cpus you probably wont be looking at air cooler anyway. So in my opinion buying this Noctua is not justified in any way, except loyalty to the brand, being a fan, stuff like that.

      If you have a contact frame, why would you want any base convexity on your CPU? .... That's like saying I want my CPU flat, so I bought a contact frame. Then bought a D15 G2 to bend the CPU.
      Noctua should add a flat baseplate (zero base convexity) option, for those with contact frames.

    With my G2 fins vibration issue doesn't exist across whole speed range and I mean with sticking your ear to the cooler. I obviously have fans mounted higher and correctly, but that's the thing. It's great that you care about details, especially acoustic anomalies which most reviewers don't mention, but when doing so, you should pay more attention to make sure everything on your side is as it should be. Your example shows fans mounted incorrectly or at least not in default position - right tower should be the thinner one. Also right fan looks positioned lower than cooler height when such scenario doesn't make sense, not counting probably there're no RAM modules which can fit like that. I don't want to defend Noctua and personally find potential problem unnacceptable in such premium cooler - quality and pleasant acoustics, something more than low dBA, are from main reasons you buy premium cooling gear. These are just my two cents and my take would be there's a problem if it happens with fans mounted in any position equal or above cooler's height.

    The NH-D15 G2 is a great cooler. But it is not a great priced cooler for it's performance among the competition. No, the 👑 is not back where it belongs. The 👑 goes to Thermalright for their $30 coolers that compete in a very tight performance margin. I'll be recommending for just about EVERY builder budget that doesn't require an AIO to go the Thermalright route and maybe use the extra cash saved for an upgrade in their build. Noctua needs to lower their price if they want to stay relevant or Thermalright will continue to beat them.

    It's expensive, but I trust it over any other brand because it's a Noctua. There are better options out there for cheaper that do just as good, but I'll still pick this air cooler over any other brand if I was building a mid-tier to high-end PC.

      You know you could buy 2-3-4 coolers from those other brands at that price, right? There's nothing to go wrong on an air cooler anyway. The fans can be replaced on any cooler at any time for very little money..

    Yes it is pricey. But the fact that other manufactures with their own factories are steali... erm borrowing Noctua's ideas and research to rapidly produce their "own" coolers is kinda crazy. It really shows how trailblazing is useless in this day and age, so much that one cannot factor in that cost anymore when the consumer market is heavilly manipulated by more artful dodgery, I agree that other coolers are "worth it"... But as a designer myself, I do respect the origin more than the others that capitalize on these opportunities.
    No one speaks to Noctua's customer support or general respect of the sector they are in.

    • @GrumpiestKitten
      @GrumpiestKitten 24 дня назад

      The only thing they trailblazed is selling overpriced brown coolers.
      Their success is built on austria-washed taiwanese ODM-work and ideas from industrial sectors crudely adapted for consumer products.
      The A14x25 is a kia radiator fan and the rattling heatsink is the same stuff we've had for the last 20 years. RPM offset stolen from the apple mac pro and base convexity/offset mount aren't exactly original ideas either?
