- As the seasons change and riding days here in Maryland get fewer and fewer, I'm trying to take advantage of the last few nice riding days of the season! So an oldschool motovlog felt like a must...but will we take the Honda Navi, the Honda XR150L, the Honda SCL500, or the Honda Rebel 1100? We'll have to let fate (aka Siri) decide!

Riding season never ends.
You just have to pick the better days, or get better gear.
Yep, as a canadian I know loads of people who ride all year around. As long as the roads are dry, you are mindful of ice, and you ride slower than normal, you are fine. Gear helps! They make heated motorcycle jackets and heated motorcycle gloves that help loads.
Definitely can't ride year round here in MN. Unless you have a legit death wish.
@@joelb08 The salt especially, ruins anything nice.
@@joelb08just got to swap to a set of skis with a track instead of two wheels
I love your old school moto blogs. It’s nice to see the cool sights, food & roads of MD. Edgewater is my favorite place to ride now, thanks to you!
Heres a tip for the xr150l since i own one myself, when you do cold starts you wanna put the choke all the way up and when you press the ignition down for about a second give it some gas and itll start revving well. The bike will never start on full choke without gas and it will die on full choke if you try to let it idle, i think they made it so the whole point is just to get the engine to start so you can rev it for a good minute and then set it to half choke.
Since its a carb you do have to let her warm up for a bit but having the choke all the way up while giving it gas is a good way to let it warm up and then you could put it to half choke to idle.
Just recently found your channel and I enjoy these types of video's. As well as your review/install vid's. Keep doing you.
As a Michigander, the plate looks like a prison made plate and the "winter water wonderland" pitch is so blah. But don't let that deter you from this great state, though. Great riding routes here except now it's coming to a close. Can't wait for those 9 o'clock sunsets again.
I love this style of video from you, literally the reason I come to your channel
I'm a new viewer from some of your other reviews, I really dig these vlogs since it's pretty much what I imagine myself doing once I save up enough to get a bike.
You explore while fantasizing about buying places, I watch while fantasizing about riding and exploring lmao. really enjoy the commentary and beautiful fall weather too
I just rode to work this morning. Not too cold. Around 13C/55F :) But yes, wet and leaves everywhere :)
I loved this video! I live in NC and have only been to Maryland once or twice so its really cool to see where you live.
These chill videos are always fun to watch. Hopefully you get the hang of the carburetor equipped bikes.
Thanks dude! “Get the hang of” is a weird way to spell “get rid of” though 😂 Never had issues with my VFR750 or DRZ400, I think the Navi and XR are just setup too lean from the factory so they’re a bitch at startup in colder weather. Nina’s old Navi was the same way. I’ll probably look into rejetting them over winter and see how they do 🤔
@LifeOfBurch good luck with that. I used to be an auto mechanic, and carbs are a pain to get right. I wouldn't blame you if you decided to get rid of them. I just don't want you to have "seller's remorse," if that's a thing, for getting rid of two smaller cc bikes I know you love. Truth be told the navi can't be beat for the fun you seem to have with it and that cargo space... the xr though, haven't seen enough of you on it to know if you get the same amount of enjoyment and use from it.
Love these videos! Keep it up!
Love the video. These are my favorite to watch. Keep up the great work my friend. Hope all is well.
Thanks bro!! Hope you’ve been doing well! 😎🤘🏻
@@LifeOfBurch yes sir just hate the weather changing lol
I subscribed because of your moto vlogging. I don't own any of your bikes but I still find your install vids entertaining. But I stay for the random rides you take us on.
Your area looks beautiful! Especially with the four seasons. It may get really hot down here in Houston during the summer, but I'm ok with that because I can ride year round. It can get pretty cold sometimes in January or February, but typically not too many days where it's unridable
*waves from Orlando* Our riding weather is getting so good right now!
Great video Burch !!! 🤙🏽
Dude I clicked as soon as I saw I just got a Navi and your videos have been so helpful
Thump nail got me thought the bike broke lmao
That building in Annapolis would be awesome!! Fun ride!
I actually love the basic moto-vlogs. I can’t wait to get a bike and just explore and getting to watch others explore just reminds me why I want a bike
Yeah, theese are the last days... about the Carbs... I usually end up riding the first halv mile with the Choke ON, depending on what Bike it is. And I like the Moto-blogs. That's what drew me to your channel. And I wanna do those MotoVlogs too...
Anyway, I just took the last ride of the year. We've had the first snow and today we had 48 degrees and some blue skies so I took a 155 miles roundtrip to a nice small town with a cool Castle called Nyköping. I rode my Honda Varadeo XL1000VA and my friend took his BMW K1200RS. What a great day it was.
Those folding mirrors are nice. I keep bumping my mirrors on the wooden frame of my garage stall lol. Space is tight in my storage location too.
Just picked my Navi up, I'll be riding it during the winter, using it as a commuter, so yes, it's only a 10 minute drive daily, but I'll have heated gloves and also picking up every. single. mod. you've shown on your channel. Appreciate the content, and if you need to, let Honda know I bought one due to your videos, sir. I may get into vlogging my winter adventures for ya! :P (I got the Nut Brown 2023 Navi here in TN)
Hell yea dude, congrats on the new Navi!! So stoked I played a part in you getting one! Especially if you’ll be riding in the cold a lot, I’d look into making new tires your first priority. The stock ones really aren’t great lol have fun with your new bike and ride safe brotha! 🙌🏻🤘🏻
The moto vlogs are the best!
3:03 Not funny the first time, but when ya hunched down to look at the bike engine/carb/whatever, i instantly started chuckling (with, not at you lol) and thinking "Well... that's the joy of a carbeurator alright..'
Burrrrrrch!
I've been watching your videos for quite awhile. I am a fan.
That business idea of yours is fantastic. Please, I implore you, find a backer. That's a business that will grow with the right person at the helm.
Go for it.
My XR used to do the same exact things shown in this video, especially if I don’t warm it up. It would cut off on rev match 😢 but I since switched my main jet to a 115 from the stock 105 and so have others and it’s been running way better now, it’s starting right up in 30f degree mornings and I’m riding it to work all happily
That’s awesome dude! It’s sounding like a lot of people have done similar with great results. Did you do anything with the pilot jet or just the main?
yea winter months i run a 115 and summer 108 you can also just hold clutch and start while giving some revs and then slowly let off clutch and she get scooting and be fine what i did while waiting on new jets to come in worked almost everytime @@LifeOfBurch
@@LifeOfBurch I only changed the main jet and left the pilot jet stock 35, you can also try just going up to 110 for good fuel economy not sure if you messed with your idle screw but manufacturers spec is 1400 RPMs because I lowered it thinking it was too high. Definitely feel more power though 👌
@@LifeOfBurch my pilot isn't stock because I've done lots of mods lmao and idk how that would effect yours I'm assuming yours is stock but I prolly wouldn't really mess with the pilot
Man, I love "old school" motovlogs - feels like going on a ride with the creator. It's why I do mine. So what if the stats suck - you had fun making it. Also, LOL @ 10k views... if my vlogs got 10k views, I'd be over the moon :D
Also, that sunset/golden hour footage is NICE! All the pretty colors, man.
Great video
love those knuckle shields you added to the navi!! discreet yet hella functional
Thanks dude! They’re some universal $20 Amazon specials! Can’t beat it 🙌🏻
Seeing as how I’m over in Seattle, I have to just suck it up and ride whenever I want to because it rains 3/4 of the year. Luckily we only get like 1 or 2 snowstorms a year and it only sticks around for a day or 2 usually. Dress for the weather and you’ll be good. Obviously you can’t ride as fast or lean as much, but it’s still a lot of fun
Man, having riding seasons must suck! Rug up good lad
i like that shop idea
Im getting a 115 main jet put in , helps with cold starts apparently for my elevation, leaving stock pilot jet
Holy cow I thought the navi was going!!! I'm the same, my grom is in the garage, I don't ride in winter
Just got a Navi in Florida. Yep, it's riding season.
5:09 .. most relatable part of the vid lol, you're making fucking gold Burch.
Only plus to the weather in Florida is riding season lasts much, much longer. Though I still don't have my bike yet, waiting on them parts to be done.
I remember stepping out of the airport in FL back in March and being like…how tf is it still 85 degrees here?! 🤯😂
Nice, the Taco truck moved back :) oh and next year I’m going to rise up for sure.
Great video as always Mike.
Thanks dude! Rise Up is definitely a must next time! ☕️🙌🏻
My alternator died on route 2 a couple months ago and I had to coast into gingerville with my remaining speed right next to that huge garage to wait for AAA 😅
I love your moto-coffee idea! There's a coffee shop in Atlanta that has a triumph dealer attached to it and a gear shop down the street. It's great
Ooo that sounds badass!! I’ll have to check that out if I’m ever down that way!
Better yet, i thought i saw heaters in those garage stalls. That is a dope piece of real estate!
I see it as something to look forward to next year.
That’s a solid mindset! 🙌🏻
Your moto vlogs are cool....dude. :)
I put an iridium spark plug in replaced the stock. And rejeted the carb from 100 to 110. Starts right up.
Yea it’s sounding like rejetting is the way to go! Definitely gonna give it a shot over winter.
I am honestly relieved to see my XR150 isn’t the only one running cold blooded. I did the same dance as your video trying to get it warmed up on a 50 degree Michigan day: cursing and stalling at every stop sign for the first ten minutes. I think I’ll be re jetting and adjusting the carb over the winter. I’ve owned a half dozen carburetor bikes and none has ever been as finicky as my new XR.
You’re definitely not alone! There have been a few others saying the same thing in the comments already. Sounds like the go-to advice is a size up for the pilot and a 110 for the main. I’ll probably tackle that over winter!
Cliffhanger title thought you was getting rid of the Navi 😭😂
I just bought my first bike, took it for its first ride this afternoon. I'm not ready to stop riding!
And, big shock, I got a Rebel 1100!
Ayyy congrats on the bike!! That’s so exciting dude! You’re gonna LOVE the 1100 🙌🏻
@@LifeOfBurch Thanks, Burch. And thanks for all your videos.
Love your coffee shop idea. When you make it a reality, I'll hook you up with the coffee
Love your tours. Take scenic pictures and them to us. Get picture frames and frame them and sell them. I would buy a few. That’s a cheap way to make money.
In Houston, there’s a Garge/Coffee shop called wolfsmith heights. Definitely worth checking out their concept
I’ll definitely have to check that out! Sounds cool!
No seasons for me. There a few weeks sometimes I cannot ride, but as long as there isn't ice and snow all over the road, and its like over 32 F ... I'm riding.
Hello sir. I too live in MD and own this machine. I highly recommend going up at least one size on the pilot jet. Now my bike starts super easy! Just try it and you'll see how well this carb can actually work. Love the vids by the way!
Thanks for the advice dude, I think I’m going to give that a try! Do you remember which size you switched to?
@LifeOfBurch I went up to a #38 pilot jet. I believe that's one step up from stock which is #35. I tried a larger main jet as well with no effect on startup when cold, however it does seem run a bit lean at our altitude so thats why I went with a #110 main as well.
I feel your pain on the carb shit my Honda ruckus gy6 always has fuel issues you have to blow into the gas tank you fill the bowl
Without the high beams on. Leave the key on without trying to start it. Then try a normal start. My xr150l has given me no trouble starting and running since I started doing it. No matter how long I've let it sit.
Oh, Burch... the colder months are time for thicker layers and some wind protection. Put an engine guard with soft lowers and a bigger fairing on the Rebel 1100 and get you some colder-weather riding! Now, I don't recommend riding in sand/salt/snow/ice, but with proper gear and some goodies for your bike, it's easily doable. I try to ride all year long. I park my Kawasakis and just ride the Harley all winter long, road conditions permitting.
I wish I knew some of the trails you hit up. I know you live somewhat in my area.
Add stabilizer to your carbureted engines. It will help with the starting.sta bil 360
I have alot of carburated bikes, quads, 3 wheelers, dirtbikes. Some are temperamental, some just fire up no matter how cold even with the choke off. Total random what ones are better than others starting. Some are cold blooded and fight me so much
My Navi is my only vehicle now , had it out the other morning at 28* here in South Jersey . Thankful for good gear 🎉
Mine was my only vehicle for a while, but it started acting up when it had competition...
Then my bigger bike was my only vehicle...
Now the Navi is gone, and I have a 4WD for snow days.
Where in south jersey do you live? I'm over by Ocean City. Any good spots to ride?
@@tacticalidiot175 I’m in Camden County In Voorhees
Honestly this is just a errand runner for groceries and appointments and church on Sunday
@@tacticalidiot175 the Pines is always nice though . Greenbank , Batsto and out toward Chadsworth
I stay clear of the XR because I owned a Hawk 250 and it had all the same problems and I was done trying to fix a brand new bike. There’s no excuse for a brand new bike with a carburetor to not want to start up cold and for it to die every time you stop.
Man, I have a love/hate relationship with carbs. I like the old-school functionality, but hate the cold-blooded nature of some of them. My Vulcan 800 doesn't seem to need the choke open after a minute, but my KZ does - and I've done the ride-away with the choke on before. Just until the engine warms up a bit and runs better.
You can buy cold weather gear that is water proof and ride year round 👍
I was lookin at the XR, but decided to go with the CRF300L. Carb was a big factor.
The Ford Focus Wagon at 16:46 lol I kinda want it
I like the motovlogs!!
Thanks so much!! 🙌🏻🙏🏻
The idea for the west street building is awesome man. Maybe make a pitch to some investors, or find some friends with similar interests. Anything is possible man never say never!
Me and my wife enjoy your motovlogs.
Thanks so much man!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
We had MOTO CAFE years back. It was ok and then fell flat on it's face.🏍🏍🏍
$10 for a bundle of firewood is highway robbery 😂
What microphone you using bro? Audio quality is great!
Try to find a station that sells non ethanol gas for that bike. Should be pretty easy being near so many marinas. Carbs hate that ethanol crap.
youtube xr150L pilot jet. Either cleaning or replacement. Use the video to pull out your pilot jet. It may look daunting but is an easy process. Look at the number on that jet. It may say 123 or 137. They go up several numbers at a time so a 110, 112, then 115 pilot will be the succession. Pick up or order a pilot 1-2 sizes up from yours. Install and be amazed at the ease of starting. The EPA makes Honda give us a super lean running engine so fattening it up slightly helps out immensely. It can smooth out any off idle jerkiness if present also. If you are going to install a pipe, you may want to install its recommended jets while you're in there. While going up a lot can provide you with a bike that doesn't need the choke to start, it will be too fat once warm and the throttle will be a little bit sluggish. In extreme cases, you can foul a spark plug. I recommend using OEM jets also so if that's a keihin carb, then use keihin jets.
Thanks so much for the advice man! I had a feeling it was the pilot jet, but don’t know nearly enough about carbs to want to start tearing into based off just what I think 😂 That definitely makes me want to dig in and change the pilot out. Thanks again!
@@LifeOfBurch Right on! I dig your adventures. Both the motovlogs and the reviews but mainly just the contrast of riding out here in Ca. Carburetors definitely have a learning curve but like anything, you can learn it. I can't help out with the newer electronic bikes for the most part so it's nice to finally be able to contribute something. Haha.
Hey! How is the Miata treating you? Been looking into getting one myself and would love an update on how you’re liking it :)
Gotta let it warm up!! These carbureted bikes don’t like the cold they need atleast 5 mins warming up to put into gear if not it will stall out.
More xr 150 content please
Motorcycle Mecca has a good ring to it
I think a small adjustment to the carb is needed for idle.
Gotta visit Texas bro. Taco trucks are the best here and there's only a week a year where it's too cold to ride

@@tardy1663 that’s so sick dude!! So crazy to hear we played such a big part in that! ADV250’s are super rad too. Congrats on the bike!!
You should get yourself a Royal Enfield Classic 350. There are a few great mods that really improve them, and would give you some great RUclips content.
also for that bike coffee shop? that sounds like an amazing idea and I feel like you should look into getting a money loan from Chase and investing in making it your own!! Turn the idle up on the xr
Could you do the “old school Motovlogs” on like Wednesday’s, maybe 7-10 minutes long, and then the longer videos that are bike reviews/installs on Sunday’s?
Carburetor is the reason the Navi and XR are affordable. EPA mandates those bikes run lean. Carbed and injected. Your XR is lean. Enrichen the idle mixture circuit and the part throttle stage or let the engine warm up fully and it will be fine.
Bosch fuel injection costs less than $100.
@@domenik8339 your saying for $100 Honda could have installed Bosch FI on this bike? Or are you saying an owner can install a Bosch FI system for $100? May I ask what's wrong with carburetion? It's already installed and with an inexpensive visit to a shop or a medium level DIYer this bike will run nearly flawlessly.
@@TheOverisel Honda could've installed it even cheaper at dealer level pricing from a supplier. I've seen as low as $17 per bike. I don't think anything is wrong with a carb, 90% of my bikes have been carbureted. I only commented cause it's not true that the carb is the reason the bike is cheap. They must have hundreds lying around they're trying to get rid of cause I think fuel injection is actually less costly for a manufacturer than a carb in the 2020s.
Learn how to jet your carb and you will know how simple it is to install the next size larger idle(pilot) jet and turn the idle up a pinch. Let the bike warm for 2 minutes on choke or less until you hear it start to run rich. 2 more minutes and lower the isle speed to spec. Cost you $7 and 5 min. to not look like a moron and your bike will run much better in the cold.
Michigan license plates stated "Water Winter Wonderland" for decades. The 1974 retro plate now says it again.
Been going over maintenance on my rebel 1100 and found that the steering lock rivets look like someone tried to drill em out. If anyone has a rebel could you tell me if yours look the same or someone tried to steel my bike.
Moisture does that all the time on my carbureted bike too.
I miss your navi vids.
Move to the south. You can ride more. Not a lot of snow/ice here. :D
Tacos looked so good 😋 🤤
You can fix a carb on the side of the road you just have to know what to do
Something I've been trying to figure out for a while, what gloves are you wearing?
Joe Rocket Eclipse gloves! Super cheap, only like $20-25 and really comfy. The Velcro wears out kinda quick, but for the price I’m cool with that. I’m on my 2nd or 3rd pair now I love em so much!
Maybe collab with smartcarb it s easier to adjust, it s just mad expensive
