      The driver's seat height is barely adjustable. There's some block (battery?) under the driver's seat that prevents it from moving up/down. It takes away about 4 inches of room.

    Biggest problem with Leaf is that it can only fast charge ONCE per day. Doing a long travel will have you stranded on your second charging point.

    I totally understand Yuri's rage over the infotainment. That infotainment would have been acceptable in 2013, but is utterly ridiculous today. There is no excuse for it. I wouldn't buy this car just so I wouldn't be stuck with a terrible, laggy center screen that will Nissan will inevitably drop support for and stop updating in 4 - 5 years time. Nissan is a huge manufacturer with tons of resources and should be capable of hiring talented software engineers and designers.

    The Leaf is a perfect commuter car. It was never designed to be a long distance trip car. As a second car it works just fine. Had mine 7 months and it is a joy to drive. Quite, smooth & plenty quick. My wife’s 2017 Honda Civic seems so noisy in comparison. Use wife’s car for long trips and the Leaf for all daily commutes.

      (about a satellite radio) sadly it's a totally personal thing. Yuri prefers to have a DJ, I love to listen to my music which is totally not available on the radio (Tool, RATM, Pro-Pain, Bloodhound gang, etc). So I want to have a CD player, while a lot of people yell 'who needs a CD in 2018??!'. well.. people who are not a huge fan of discovering that album from your favourite list is no longer available on the Spotify.

    Yes, the sun visors do slide back, but they don't slide back enough! There's a good 2 - 3 inch gap left where the sun will hit your eyes depending on how you're positioned. On most cars, the visors will completely cover the top portion of the side window.

    As an owner of a 2013 Leaf I have to say the shifter knob is the best. It is super easy to use and takes up hardly any space. Also, the rear heated seat controls are on the side of the passenger seat so the rear passengers can reach it. However, when the rear passengers get out without turning the switch off the driver has to contort their body and arm around to turn it off.

    Counterpoint on range: 150miles is more than enough for most people, since most people do 2 things: 1) they use their cars as city cars and don't road trip NEARLY as much as they think they do, and 2) being able to start every day with 100% range (since you likely charge it overnight) requires that we re-think the range on these vehicles.

  • @GetIrked
    @GetIrked 5 лет назад +2

    I'm a long-time watcher and absolutely love you guys, but I still stand by my view that prioritizing infotainment in an era of spectacular aftermarket parts is crazy; you could end up writing off an amazing car for a $300-500 head unit replacement.
    You can't inexpensively upgrade a car's styling, performance or interior size, but you can totally swap out the stereo for one with the features you want for less than $1,000. Get the right vehicle, then upgrade the infotainment!
    KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK FROM A FELLOW (EXPAT) CANUCK! :)

    • @TheStraightPipes
      @TheStraightPipes  5 лет назад +1

      You can't swap out most modern infotainments. They control all aspects of the car (radio, climate, settings, gauges, traction, power, etc)

      @@TheStraightPipes Good point! I keep forgetting the modern cars (sad that I have to say that with my cars being a 2011 MX-5 and 2013 FR-S... :P). My wife's 2010 Mazda3 has a head unit that can't be replaced even though it's just a standard MP3/Bluetooth CD player.
      I retract my previous statement. Time for a new perspective! :)
      BTW: The fact you read all of your comments and even reply to most of them makes you the best car RUclips channel. Thanks for all your hard work!

  • @uwongtube

    One pedal driving means using the accelerator pedal only to move and completely stop. The e-pedal switch is to turn on and off this function. When it is on, letting go the accelerator engages the regenerative brake to stop the car. When it is off, the regenerative brake isn't engaged when lifting off the accelerator, and that is why the car keeps cruising in the video. You have to use the second pedal, aka the foot brake pedal, to engage the hydraulic brake AND the regenerative brake to stop the car. The e-pedal switch is not supposed to use as a hand activated brake during driving, and that is why it is inconveniently located on the center console.

    I work as a valet, and every new Nissan (~2016+) I’ve driven has the same issue with unlocking the doors in park. You have to hit the unlock button for any of the doors to open, which is very frustrating when we’re busy. Nissans in general frustrate me with their laggy electronics... for instance, it’s nearly 1 full second between pushing the engine stop button and the engine actually shutting off. So much for feeling connected to the car...

    The Leaf if the most affordable EV you can buy that goes a bit farther than the local supermarket. The range is "enough" but 300km would be great. The infotainment can be improved for sure (I felt he was too hard on that) but not a deal breaker. The Ioniq for me felt ridiculously cheap inside, but to each their own.
    The version I'm excited about is the late 2019 Leaf which gets a bigger 60 kWh battery, 300km range, battery cooling and 200hp+.

      @lucascya2524 5 лет назад +1

      At the time when I bought my 2018 Leaf (2018 spring) it was the best deal you could actually get. Here in Ontario, you had to wait 12-18 months to get eGolf and hyundai ioniq electric, Tesla 3 was double the price of Leaf SL. By that time the $14,000 Ontario rebate would have been gone. The current government should have kept these rebates, I would not have bought my electric car if I did not have the $14,000 rebate.

    I would be asking questions on the Nissan battery pack warranty. Nissan 8 years or 160,000 km. Now, look at a base Tesla 8 years or 240,000 km. Toyota starting in 2020 increased its hybrid battery warranty to 10 years or 240,000 km. Nissan also has you sign a document specifying the conditions of that battery warranty. How the vehicle is charged, left in the cold or in hot can void the warranty. There are a lot of outs in that warranty agreement for Nissan to void your warranty. Nissan also has not adopted any active cooling for its battery pack? The main reason the early Nissan Leaf battery packs that only had a 5-year warranty failed early was a lack of active cooling for the battery pack. Battery packs are very expensive and expensive to instal.

    I've really been looking forward to this review and it didn't disappoint. The stuff I knew you hate you really hated... The 'nob', the infotainment. You forgot to rant at the piano black :)
    There's a reason the new Leaf is why it is - which is based on the old Leaf and a lot of the body work and systems have not been updated... And that it is I believe the only 'affordable' electric car which is sold at a (probably quite small) profit. It's possible that the Kona/Niro are now profitable but you have to wait 12 months plus to get one here anyway (UK). So in answer to your question: they just did enough to update it (I love how comfortable it is and the space is great) but only just. The e-plus Leaf will supposedly get active thermal management and 350km range which will make it more sensible for North America.

    I have the 2018 LEAF S so I don't rely on the Infotainment screen too much, but it's crap compared to the Model 3 by Tesla. They do need to improve this. As you discovered, you can display your speed digitally on the left, but you have to find it and it's kind of hidden. I discovered this accidentally *after* buying the car, but it was a pleasant surprise. I find the power to be decent, but nothing like the Tesla Model 3. 0-30, this thing will surprise a lot of people. Features I'd get if I were buying new; heat pump, pro pilot assist (for parking assist), LED headlights, overhead camera. The non-LED headlights are terrible. I bought mine used and it had a quick charger option installed (and it's white, the color I wanted), so my particular trim level isn't what I'd normally buy. But, it'll do for a couple years until I can get in to a Tesla or some higher-range and better-appointed EV.
    The range in the 2018+ LEAF is decent too, at 151 miles. I couldn't consider some EVs with less than that, and couldn't really afford EVs with more just yet....so it's a good balance and there are some nice used specimens out there.

    We have a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica PHEV. It’s the only plug in 7 seater available here in Ontario besides the Tesla Model X. It has 50Km of range, and can recharge in 2 hours. Are you planning on reviewing one?

    I am really surprise to see that Nissan still using the same map from like 2010 in 2018, it looks just like my G37 infotainment map.

    Angry rant was great all you were missing was the lightning coming from your fingertips lol @ jakub missing that one! Also, id fucking love and would pay as an option for matrix display on the dashboard it would make my day everyday

    Car looks good, just electric enough to still appear normal. Yuri turned into savagegeese there with his rant. Getting in and out of all these cars already has numbed you both a little - proof the heavy use of "whatever" - but then the annoying bits start to stand out more in ones perception. Anyway great looking video again, even Yuris hair is nice :D

    Does it have independent rear suspension? I know its slightly mentioned a lot some may say its even overrated but I'm definetly pushing towards of if I can afford it :)

      torsion beam at the rear unfortunately just like the last one.

      @@MrConor159 the Mazda 3 is going from an independent back suspension to a torsion beam, because the median weenie buyer wants it quieter and smoother, instead of better for fast corners.

      Is Canada getting the Focus? If so, I might just go to Windsor and buy one. Ford is bailing on cars in US right as they design a nice Focus hatch.

    Agreed equal range of the Kia enero update the infotainment, improve the quality of cameras, increase the vehicle height with the 60kw, otherwise the car will bottom out on every speed bump. please please add reach and rake on the wheel , add proper water cooling to the battery pack not the hybrid system fitted to the ev2000, and please add the lighter interior colours as an option as not everyone likes dark interiors on all trim levels, please fix the illumination on the break lights right now at night only the bottom half of the break light illuminates is it so hard to add a led so all of it illuminates when breaking
