If you are attempting to hike the TRT, how do you time your entrance and stay within the DW sector? Given you need a permit and a bear canister. Most TRT thru hikers start and finish around Tahoe City on the opposite side, because of supplies and safe parking.
Hi there, I'm probably not much help since thru hikes aren't really what I'm interested in. But it looks like if you're hiking the TRT, there's a different permit that you can obtain (see tahoerimtrail.org/regulations-permits/). I'm not sure if that permit has the same timed entry/exit rules as the regular camping permits for the Desolation wilderness, you'll have to call to ask. As for a bear canister, it might be a good idea to always have one since the Tahoe area has a lot of bears.
What you brought wont save you from bears and wolves bro. They dont care about spray, barely care about 12 gauge slugs. Dont get eaten friend. Grizzlies are rare but can get to be 1500 lbs.
And if you Do go the porcupine on Crack route, you'd need a thin dog bite suit (and like 3 bear sprays to keep em from being able to breathe) so a mountain lion doesn't rip your throat out in one go and you have time to activate the spray and start blasting. You think you'd be able to hear em but NOPE. A small dog scared me this morning while running. Didn't hear it until it was 2 feet from me.
You sound like a wise person, I'll heed your warnings and advice. Next time I'll make sure to wear some armor and bring more weapons to defend myself. California doesn't have Grizzly bears but it's better to be safe than sorry. I'm glad to hear that you're safe from that dog encounter, never underestimate a small dog. They might be small, but they're mighty.
Absolutely breathtaking upload bud, these shots are spectacular! Reflections are spectacular! You are simply great creator!
