Great circuit!
I thought a free wheeling diode is required to be connected across the relay input (pin 3 and ground), with anode connected to pin 3. This would nullify the back emf effect when relay is turned off.
Max output of 555 is 200mA; you may want to consider relay resistance/current specifications
