- This is the trailer for Starchaser. I took the audio from an old rental tape and then got each and ever shot that was in the trailer from the widescreen dvd and recreated it.
Кино
It’s a cross between Star Wars, temple of doom and heavy metal. Loved this as a kid. Sad to see movies like this and rock and rule completely forgotten about.
Headcanon Heavy Metal.
Behold The Good Loc-Nar!
Well I mean you gotta give us movie props for being one of if not the first animated movie do you have 3-D animation in it, and mix both 2-D and 3-D animation.
Until we show our kids and everyone they are friends.with thinks they are making it up XD
Holy cow, the people who made this was high on a cocktail of spice and midiclorians 😅
Now this Starchaser the legend of orin is a cross between Star Wars & Heavy Metal!
Perfect Description.
Accurate
@@coletrain583 you ever play phntasy star it's kind like starxhasrr I guess
I used to rent this every week back in the 80's. I loved it. I now have the DVD and was quite surprised by how adult it was. Great film!
Still more original then the plot of the Force Awakens.
That still amazes me
I watched this on VHS as an 8 year old. Good times growing up...
I saw this in 3D in theaters. I'm 45 and this is such a trip seeing this here.
Me too! It was pretty good 3d.
Man, if I knew about this movie when I was a kid I would have sold my kidney to see it. Born in 1983, first time seeing the trailer - 2015.
I was just thinking the same, except I was born in 1979 and now it's 2019
Born in 83 as well... my grandad bought it on vhs for me as a kid and I watched it for the first time yesterday in god knows 20 years!
Still love it!
Watching this trailer just pretty much broke me! Me and my twin was obsessed with this movie for years! When I think of my childhood and the movies I grew up with, this one is right up there!
"You have the crystals?"
"You have the moneeeey?"
OMFG! This was one of the greaties mysteries of my childhood. This cartoon frightened me & fascinated at the same time, but didn't remember it's title... You're incredible!
I like the fluidity of the animations. They did not cheap out the frames per second like a lot others are doing and were doing.
I remember this movie as a small child, brings back memories.
Maybe THIS is how a Buzz Lightyear movie should be made.
Awesome work rebuilding this trailer. I always love when people work hard to save these bits of culture and history from disappearing.
I absolutely LOVED this movie as a kid since I first saw it on VHS . I sadly missed the cinema release here in Australia, though I remember distinctly seeing cardboard standees and posters for this in McDonalds for some reason!
I know some folks consider it a Star Wars ripoff but there are *much* bigger ripoffs of that movie than StarChaser (including The Force Awakens, now!) and I don't even care because this is so good.
A fantastic adventure movie that stands up today; love the animation (it always reminded me of Fire and Ice) and the voice acting (Necron and Arthur are the two I always remember most). Powers Boothe gets as close to playing Han Solo as we'll ever get, and Silica is just awesome (I could listen to her and Arthur bicker all day). Not to mention, the villain's plan is actually legit decent for once!
Standout little moments I can recall like yesterday:
1) Wait... she's dead?! Dark!
2) Don't bend down to pick up an invisible sword, idiot! (and watch your hump!)
3) They're in her... posterior?
4) Epic "U-turn", Dag!
5) Nooo! Not butler droid! I liked him!
5) The fall of Nexus.
7) I'd rather stick around for a bit in case there's a sequel, thanks.
Definitely a film that I think would stand up for most kids today, and one that had a huge impact on me from the 80's.
Oh, and don't forget that awesome score... pure epic-ness, especially the main/end title!
I've seen a. Lot of 80s movies, and holy shit, this has no right looking so good.
Saw this for the first time last week, It was way better than I expected, surprised its not more well known.
Yeah, and in the original 3-D it's even better!
this is a classic.
Fire ass trailer
I remember a lot of cartoon movies coming out in the 80s
I'm fairly certain this trailer featured at the start of the sell thru VHS Teen Wolf along with American Rabbit because Iw atched the trailer a lot. When I saw it I was amazed at the quality of animation. Shame the plot takes so many tropes from Starwars but it is still a great flick if you enjoy old animation. I also recommend Fire and Ice.
Yes you're right it was a trailer alongside American rabbit on the teenwolf vhs
great job recreating this!
Great work! Thanks for doing this :D
I saw it in 3D! in Mexico was awasome!!!
I got the DVD to this recently so I could watch it again after many, many years. I loved it! But I can't believe how similar it is to Star Wars, I'm surprised George Lucas didn't sue them or something lol
That ship looks like a Firefly.
Accidently come across this, I used to love this film!
the Nostalgia Critic brought me here!
this is from 1986? my god, that was 4 years after my birth, it looks AMAZING...,that s old school cartoons for ya,...
Loved this as a kid.
Fucking class movie, one of the best movies of the 80's, more of an adults film than a kids film as it's quite violent in places but thats whats makes it good, this is how cartoons should be made.
Hope it gets released on dvd here in the u.k. soon.
LASERS AND EXPLOSIONS! I WANNA SEE THIS NOW!
Went to see this in the New 3D(not blue/red) back in the day.
I love this film!!
I saw the last half on TV a few weeks ago and the animation blew me and my sister away. What a relief it is to watch western animation again! I wasn't impressed by how fluid it was for a 1985 film -- I was impressed by how fluid it was, period. Nothing stays still! Japanese animators barely bother to make the speaking character's lips move, much less everything else in view. I wound up buying it to see the rest, and I'm glad I did. And yeah, it's a Star Wars knockoff, but who cares? It's great1
I would've know about this film if not for Nostalgia Critic. Saw it on youtube, loved it. XD Lucky you for seeing it the first time. *HUGZ!* XD
Iv been lookin for this for years. And came across it randomly. Its really good its a rip of of star wars with a ship like the one in firefly whats not to like
Its not a rip-off of Star Wars. They are both Space Opera.
@@chrismaddock598 its a rip off. It has a really similar story and similar characters
@@johnm3907 LOL
You clearly don't know what Space Opera is.
Look it up & educate yourself!
@@chrismaddock598 did you ever see this movie?
@@johnm3907 I've seen it many times.
Have you found out what Space Opera is yet?
i never even KNEW about this movie! im going to buy it on amazon like, today! lol.. AWESOME!
"A brave, Young Hero, under the Instructions of a wise old Wizard, Joins forces with a Smuggler, to take down an evil Empire in Space"
Now WHERE have I heard this premise Before.....
Star Trek?
I wasn’t born I til ‘92 and never saw it as a child. Saw a review for it and watched the movie. I didn’t think it was that bad. Not great, but I did enjoy it. That said, they’re overselling it just a bit….
Well if they could remaster the two views in HD they could release this in theatres digitally.
I loved this love movie!
LOoooL !
I Miss cartoons from the 80's >:( When cartoons where for boys+girls with good imaginations.
would love to see a new 3d animation using modern software like DAZ3D or 3DMS or Poser. this story should live forever. :).
Yeah it was on at least 5 videos, there were four versions of the trailer, a theatrical one which was short and emphasized the 3D and a longer one emphasizing how much it made at the box office and a shorter one (without the head laser) which was the original theatrical trailer.
If I remember correctly it was shown in 3D In theaters. Wish they would make great cartoons again. Everything is a damn emoji now .
sigh, why dont they make movies like these anymore
It's out on DVD but only in America.
Where was i for this? I was 11 years old in 1986.
Wow first time ever seeing this and I was born in 1980. The ships animation looks like cg but better. Crazy.
Still better than the Star Wars prequels.
@RanaRandom I think its supposed to be set in the far future, which would make sense. It always bothered me that Star Wars was supposed to be set in the past and yet there were humans walking around (And they were referred to as humans BTW). Having this as the far future with humans having spread across the galaxy just makes much more sense
Is this available on dvd?
#NewRetroWaveBroughtMeHere!
@TheShockaholic No, the character is named Orin, K'Khan is a title
When I saw this in the theater in 3D. I was 14. My friend had got stoned for the first time, and tried to tear of my 3d glasses, then freaked out and ran out of the place. Ha Ha.
no way? really!
@rosseatsleepjdm - this was originally released in 3-D during it's theatrical run back in 1985.
When is this gonna be released on dvd here in the uk
The beginning of anime gurran lagan is incredibly similar to this, living underground, drilling all day. Both find a powerful relic. Machines taken over etc etc
there is a rumor that this will be mad into a live action movie.
This trailer was on the Teen Wolf VHS in the 80’s
Is this the movie where the voice tells him "you don't need the orin"?!
Mandela effect on full display here! I was a nerd born in 1977. No way did this movie exist without me knowing about it...
We had this, Heavy Metal, Wizards, all kinds of great animated movies. Today we have computer generated dog shit!!!
Amen brother! CG pixar movies are beyond lame!
To be of 1986 the animation is very good for its time.
@jeangreyfan 'He' was referring to Pirates of Dark Water I just guessed that was what he was talking about. I think you got us back to front. BTW I have never watched an episode of Pirates of Dark Water.
fuck, a laser whip to the eyes!
... how? How have I never heard of this before? I almost don’t think this is real.
I agree there aren't enough of these kinds of movies (animated movies for 13+ males, not from Japan, okay this was made in Korea but it's American writing and planning)
An amazing master piece!
Disney sucks !
Googling for 'thing with laser whips' brought me here.
There could be a chance if next Winter's Digital 3D release of "Beauty and the Beast" is successful.
If Star Wars and He-Man had a child..
👍👍
@5tonyvvvv It's the quality of the movie that counts, not how it's made. Don't be ignorant.
Holds up his hand.
I remember seeing this as a kid. And I did find the reprogramming the fem-bot by probing the circuits in her posterior funny, which probably says more about me than I really want to know.
Where exactly do you see Lord of the Rings in this movie?
FUCKIN GREAT WORK DUDE
This fuckin rocks
never even heard of it.
Sage: "In fact, it has been reported that a live-action remake was planned!"
Critic: "...they already did that, and it was called 'STAR WARS'!!!"
I saw it as a 9-year old kid, was the best thing I've ever seen! I saw it again as an adult and... it wasn't longer the best thing I've ever seen. Quite awful, really.
Star Wars: The Animated Film
Its called Space Opera.. look it up!
Actually the philosophical and mythological premise in the mystical aspects of the films are different, one is more zen and the other far more Tao. Lucus took whole characters and events from some of those samurai films. Not to mention that star wars is essentially a cut-down cheapo version of E.E. "Doc" Smith's epic Lensman series, Lucus did all he could afford to but in the end it just wasnt possible to afford special effects as epic as those novels.
Finally, someone knows their history. I'm sick of people referring to any other Space Opera as just a "star wars rip-off".
I remember lol
Yeah it's a shameless Star Wars rip, but come on, if you saw it when you were young you must have liked it. I loved it.
Nope. Not a "shameless Star Wars rip" at all. You just don't know what Space Opera is.
what is the nostalgia critic exactly?
@RickyRider35 This is not like Starwars. The story is very different when you look into it deeper. Anyways Starwars is just a retelling of things such as the Arthurian legends etc ;)
Amen Rob!
I'm so bored of people calling all Space Opera a rip-off of Star Wars.
LOL i saw this way before star wars and i thought was the most awesome thing ever but then i realised how much in common it had with SW but still it's a classic plus the story is a bit different and at times more mature...One of the characters actually curses lol
They're both Space Opera.
I mean the animation is actually beautiful at times, I can tell there’s a lot of rotoscoping, but overall the animation and voice acting are actually really good too bad the movie is not though.
Too old for me, But from this alone, it's looks fucking AWESOME!
It is a movie about repairing a robot-girls butt.

Most underrated comment
Good job man!
So much more epic than it had any business being. And I love it.
Pretty awesome, but you should mix the vid with the audio, yourself. That way it's precisely linked.
Ha ha, really nice!
that kid's name is seriously Ka-Ka?
First cartoon saw when one the characters said "sh!t" as they pulling away at high G from the enemy fighters..
Awesome cartoon, don't have the creative skill to make them like they use too..
dude, this is like starwars only as a cartoon and with a slightly different name...
They're both Space Opera. Its a genre, look it up!
@Battybattybatts
Lensman? What is Lensman? And, I thought Star Wars was made because Lucas couldn't get the rights to Flash Gordon.
Its called Space Opera.. look it up!
Star wars ripped off elements to many things but ie is unacknoledged by many it is easy to rip off lesser known stuff and not have people complain. This copies many of the elements of star wars but it is still quite different enough to be enjoyed as a different movie. I mean you could look at Transformers the Movie as copying many of the elements of star wars as well, but then again what were the lesser known movies that star wars copied it's structure and elements from? I enjoy them all.
@Johnlindsey289
Well Akira was the first Anime that I saw, of course it's great, felt Ghost was a little over-rated but certainly a landmark film, Heavy Metal was a noble attempt to get more mature themes in western animation, but really it wasn't that 'mature' just tits and blood, still fun though. The Wall I have got but not seen, thought that it was mostly live action, at least the bits I've seen. Wicked City, again Anime interesting, always get it mixed up with monster city. Nausicaa...
I'm here because Star Wars is dead to me. 2024.
This makes me think of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann... ROFL
This schlock set the cause of animated films back over twenty years.
