Thanks Jack! Most of our flyings are done on the East Coast so there’s no reason for the Turbo. SR22T is more expensive to maintain and you’ll lose quite a bit of useful load.
Great video! Seems like you have an awesome mechanic... When it comes to aviation, I feel like there's not much more important than having a great mechanic who is super detailed oriented and who you can trust. -Beth
Bernie is by far the most knowledgeable, and I have been to a few other Cirrus Service Centers! We service our 22 there. Interestingly, Bernie had suggested 30 hour then 50 hour oil change and continue pattern. The metals I’m going to have to ask him about. Bc obviously at 30 the metals will be down versus 50 BUT the proof would be in a pattern of 200 hours versus another 22 that did it’s oil service at 50 during that same period. That’s an apples to apples comparison thanks for video, much appreciated.
@@SlowAsianDriver KISP. But at Atlantic a lot at KFRG. Saw you last week (I think it was Tuesday) on my way down to CHS with my son. We were the SR22 taxing blue/gray next to you as you were pre-flighting.
Great video to watch. I have a non-oil change question. How do you mount the camera on the back to the ceiling in the cockpit, like over the speaker cover? Can you share the mount info or a link where to buy it from. I own SR20 G2. KDXR is great airport to arrive, but tricky. And , yes that pole is something that every pilot has to know about, specially at dark times of the day. Thanks.
Hi Armen, the camera mount plugs right into the Oxygen Port. Someone on COPA made a bunch of them and it works great. Since your plane doesn’t have O2 ports, I recommend getting a “3rd Hand Helper” pole and mount the camera to that via an adapter. Good luck.
Just now found you on RUclips, thanks for sharing. What kind of oil do you use in your Cirrus? I own and fly a Cessna 172, love it. My home base is KLXT. I flew to Martha’s Vineyard 3 years ago, that was awesome. Thanks
Still can't get over your...ahem...lucky tail number! Anyway, I just started going down the line of investigating getting my private pilot's license and aircraft ownership for some of the same reasons as you: massively expanding the radius of restaurant access, weekend getaways, and uhh...visiting the in-laws? My wife is behind it, but she is apprehensive about flying with kids, but I haven't shown her a Cirrus yet. How's the TCO of the SR22 (apart from fuel)? You're flying a G5?
Fly a C172 and get you private and instrument. It’s not the fastest nor the prettiest but it’s a tank. Make the mistakes on the C172 and once you have your ticket move to a SR22. It’s an easy sell to the wife. My plane is a G6…it around $400-$450 per hour. The price difference between a G5 and G6 made no sense for us to get used. Our plane comes with 5 years of warranty. Feel free to reach out and I’ll be happy to give you my no frill no b/s point of view and ownership experience. Email is Channel name at gmail.
Great question. First the video obviously was sped up...I wish my plane can fly that fast...lol. Force landing is always a concern, but since it's warm weather and there's abundance of boats on the sound, I can always pull the chute and aim for one of the boats in case I cannot glide to one of the airports arounds.
@@SlowAsianDriver thanks, wasn't sure if the glide ratio could get you across with some altitude at the halfway point. I would likely be in a rental 172 after ppl.
172 has a 10 to 1 ratio (iirc it’s been a while) and the narrowest area is around 7 nm so you’ll need to be at least 2,500’ without factoring wind. Did you say you fly out of KFRG?
@@SlowAsianDriver I took a lesson out of LIV to try the Piper out. They were great but Brookhaven is way closer. Not sure what I'm going to do yet though. I was hoping to find a plane to train in that I would like to own later on but they are all pretty tight so far.
Since most of my flying are around the east coast there’s no need for the Turbo and associated operating cost. If you need to get over mountainous terrain then the Turbo is great. Just keep in mind that you will lose about 100 lbs of useful load with the Turbo.
Very cool and educational video.
Very helpful video - many thanks!
Thanks pal!
Runway 35 DXR in the fall is one of the prettiest approaches on Earth
Just landed on 35 a few weeks ago…get da bit interesting with the wind between the hills. Very cool indeed.
"Triple eight FU". Hahaha. Brilliant.
😂 thx.
Great video ! I’m in the process of ordering a new Cirrus. Why did you opt for the normally aspirated ?

I just found your channel and I'm so glad I did. Great content!
Thanks pal! Appreciate the support.
As a student at Nassau Flyers and someone looking to buy a SR22 I enjoy your content. Keep it up!

Thanks Beth! Bernie is excellent. There’s another shop a lot of us refuse to bring our planes to b/c their mechanics are just plain incompetent. 🤦🏻♂️

Yes I remember. I waved at you guys and the plane looks real sharp in that color. See you around pal!
Great video!
Thx Eric!
Great videos John and lovely aircraft, I love cirrus but leaning toward the diamond for two engines and bit bigger space.

Thanks Bud. We use Phillips Victor XC 20W50. It has added cam guard.
We've been changing our oil at 30hrs for a few years now on our 2016 SR22 G5. We almost never have to add oil.
Our oil consumption has stabilized. We are around 1 quart every 10 hours and we keep around 6 quarts.

Wow, Crossed the sound real quick, is a forced landing a concern over the sound or can you reach the shore?

SR22 oil change alone is around $200.
