Such a beautiful and gorgeous unit. Love preset 4 & 24, 8 for reggae/delay vibes. I have 1x Yamaha rev 5 and 2x Yamaha spx990 in addition to a Tc2290 as my go to fx, live sound guy turned studio guy, hence my selection of gear, use what I know :) Console is a Allen & Heath ML4000 40 channel console, with apogee I/o to daw (PC basically used as a tape machine). Very very rare that I'll use a vst plugin on anything nowadays
Excellent! Ill check out those settings. I want to see more convos about phase and impedance stability when it comes to hardware vs plugins... I just think it's an advanced subject most haven't even begun to understand coming from a saturated consumer market. The pros who do know either don't talk about it or are just trying to sell you the said "fake" alternatives... It's amazing after almost 12 years of using dozens of plugins, the sonic revelation I achieved simply using a hardware EQ of even an old soundcraft 200. cheers - Bahrum
I was thinking to replace my Boss BF-3 and CE-3 pedals to an old SPX 990 on my bass set, and watching this video i immediatly changed my mind to get the Rev5. Luckely i found one in a decent condition and a ridiculous price. Thanks!!!
Thanks for the video! Just picked me up a rev 5. Question for ya. My setup is a Mac Studio, Apollo x6 and Logic Pro X. I do not use a mixer and prefer not to. How do I hookup my rev5? To my Mac Studio or keyboard,
ok sounds really nice but you think it's worth? or a plugin can do the same things? I have lots of IR that sounds really good. also raum, arturia plate, morphverb are good emulation to my ears
Thanks for these vids. Like hearing old gear. It would be nice to hear on some vocals and guitar so you can hear the full musical quality of the verb, I didn’t find that little beat useful. Good presentation though and I’ve subscribed 👊
Excellent video. Very helpful demo of the unit. Nice drum machine programming, as well. What unit were the drum sounds in the first demo segment coming from?
LB thank you! I prefer the pro r3 simply because it’s a great “room” in a box with the most room algorithms. Application dependent of course. Cheers! - Bahrum
@@BlueHouseSoundStudio Thanks for the answer! I have more or less the same idea. The verbs in the other units seemed a bit denser (which I liked) but maybe it was because of the dry/wet blend instead of the 100% wet demo of the Pro 3. Also the other units have effects beside or reverbs
None of existing plugins doesn't come even close to that Yamaha algorithm which is very special. All the "IR impulses" offered here and there are just garbage. I keep my REV5 in a good shape. Apart from the old electrolytic capacitors REV5 may suffer from "aged" Soshin LP20C9B6 active LPF modules causing erratic noises. I bought some other pieces of vintage gear just for the purpose of sourcing the LP20C9B6's from them. Actually this video doesn't really give a clue what REV5 is actually capable of. Here is a good example of REV5 in use: ruclips.net/video/1SJbfUv4PBE/видео.html There are at least three algorithms of REV5 could be heard there such as Gated and Room reverb for snare, a Plate for claps and stuff like that and a Room for the bass drum.
Zero is a number... Every pitch patch at zero still has tonal stereo and phase differences. Why? because the display is only showing one side of this STEREO unit. Did you hear them? I'm simply demonstrating the factory presets of this unit. Sorry if this video isn't useful because of that. Carry on making the world a better place with your negativity.
@@BlueHouseSoundStudio I agree that they are very similar, it's about sensations and I'll have to use somewhat vague adjectives. The 5 seems to me wider as a spectrum of frequencies but with a more "patinated" sound, the 7 more concentrated, restricted and flourier, less sheen. Both give me feelings of old luxury, exaggerating the difference like a Citroen DS and a Jaguar. I prefer the Citroen DS it's more futuristic, a retro-future, it seems more interesting to me. And of course it also depends on the application, let's say sensations at first glance.
For anyone that have HW I have to say " Use it gently and smart" this reverb is interesting but imagine yourself using this unit every time... For me Raum is the best but to many others Black Whole is best Valhalla and... Raum is monster when you put any signal thru the big sound sistem and I with reason I say big sistems because it will not have any artifact RAUM it's self have everything for making sound pleasant, loud never ending, looping and for the pre delay for the first time I see a grid sistem and ms . We have to know that Art is in you not in equipment and in it's quality. Art is in you and if you do it honestly it will be fine even with software compressor it will sounds amazing especially in drone, post rock where you have a unpredictable noise and new dinamic that you have to take care of or at least do it precise then wet/dry 😉 60.000 : bpm = ritmical measure or measure yourself how you feeling....my biggest concern is MIDI 2.0, possibilities are endless with far more informations and instructions to a level of perfectly Random Music.... That's why Live recordings and Analogue music have more value , when you hear drone simple, with cut of, you have to know that there is much more behind, it can be like a wild beast and then get back in harmony form with more details "lower case" sounds and everything is in real time at least I do it in real time.
I love these videos on old/forgotten fx units. So helpful, concise, and well done.
Hello Vincent, Thank you very much! - Bahrum
Love the gated verb on snare. Clip the input and tuck it under the snare. Bit of EQ and go for some subtle added meat.

Emerson Garrido Jr thanks, thats awesome! I am happy for you!
@@BlueHouseSoundStudio and Will record on my Tascam DA 30 Mk2!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Emerson Garrido Jr I have worked with Dat and Adat but not this machine! I would love to try it!
As good as plug-ins are nowadays hardware still sounds better.

Programming is usually the key. A good programmed plugin will do the same thing.
Thanks for the video! Funny thing all the reverbs sound the same on Synth

Thanks so much!
Really usefull, thank you. Would you prefer this one than a SPX90?
Welcome! For reverbs without a doubt!
Nope
Bought mine for 45$ @ the pawnshop! best deal ever!
Awesome! I got one for about this much once !
By chance is there a way to use this as an audio delay to delay audio cleanly to match video
I’m not sure but it seems like it could... there’s other old cheaper units you could probably find for this type of delay.
Cheers
Excellent video. Very helpful demo of the unit. Nice drum machine programming, as well. What unit were the drum sounds in the first demo segment coming from?
Thank you very much! sorry for the late reply.
The drum machine were linn drum samples from Arturia Spark. cheers!
i think Rev7 is fantastic for bass and snare.
Nice demo, which one you prefer between the Pro 3, Rev 5 and Rev 7?

LB I may be making a direct shootout on these at some point soon...Probably throw in some plugins also.
I think it outputs at a max of 44.1khz?
No problem as it only has analog I/O. Cheers! S

Rev5 came after rev7. Yamaha numbers go backwards.
