  • A wild camp on Glenariff Mountain in the Antrim Hills. Walking through Glenariff Forest Park, following the waterfalls of the Inver River, discovering WW2 aircraft remains and a camp at 390m on Glenariff Mountain overlooking the Irish Sea. For clarity there have been some access issues onto the mountain from Glenariff Forest Park with signage - not sure what the current situation is.

You are right Gerry. I would love to go north of Belfast but I have to admit I don't know my way around! I need someone more well versed to pinpoint and direct me to local areas/places of interest. Aslo because I'm mostly on the motorbike I don't want to do much of a distance in the colder weather so I have to limit longer excursions to spring and summer. Admittedly the M2 has made places a lot quicker to get to.

Nice video! Incidentally, I was reading a story the other day about an old boy up near Carnlough who had used the wheel off of a crashed bomber for a home made wheelbarrow. Someone had just recently fished the barrow out of a hedge and it was all rotted away, but the wheel was still in fine condition. Some stores up in the hills, my favourite part of the world.

I was just watching a new video from Chris over at Northern Embers Camping and Cooking channel. He was in Scotland exploring Loch Tay but the scenery looked similar to where you are in Ireland. Then I finished watching and your notification popped up. Coincidence? You guys would probably get along very well. You both like to climb steep mountains (what you called "easy walking"). His video did not have waterfalls like your area though. Very impressive indeed. I grew up in the U.S. state of Oregon which is famous for all it's waterfalls. It even has a mountain range running through the middle of the state called the Cascades. I miss that since I live in Florida now and it's flat as a postage stamp. Great video.

It is a great walk out to there in the summer and the views are fantastic, definitely a lot cooler and wetter at this time of year. I never knew about the wreckage either - have walked along here many times and this was the first time that I came across it. Great video, was up there this evening at the reservoir checking out the area to see if it was possible to camp some evening. Cheers👍 I haven't done much wild camping in the Antrim Hills - apart from here and Fair Head, though I have made note of a few potential options. There doesn't look to be many options for camping around the reservoir due to the rough ground. The Inver River has potential I think above where it drops down into Glenariff with plenty of spots along its banks. I have thought about the summits of Colin Top and Carncormick and heading up and looking for a spot above Cranny Falls. Have just done a camp in Cleggan Forest above the Quolie Reservoirs which was cool. Not sure about lighting a fire though - as you say would leave a trace and might upset landowners.
