Fun detail about Kazuha's design. In the flashback, he doesn't have his hand bandaged up. So that part where the vision sets on fire isn't just poetic symbolism, it actually burnt his hand, and since then he's bandaged his hand.
First off hello Bethany and Ken, thank you guys for another video :) 2:46 the reason why you don’t remember her is because she never appeared in the main story before xD Since Genshin is a open world exploration game Hoyo assumes that players will have meet the NPC from around the world of Teyvat, so they’ll often mention a random NPC that we can talk to in the open world during quests because more likely than not the player will have already meet and/or interacted with the mentioned NPC But ofc since you guys are only experiencing the game through it’s main story there will be moments like this in the future where some random (usually unimportant) NPC gets mentioned in the main quest just because they are vaguely connected to whatever the topic of the main quest may be (like Atsuko in this instance who is from Inazuma)
The Sakoku decree closing off Inazuma is a parallel to historical Japan. Japan closed their borders and were very strict about not letting people leave or arrive. There was a small exception for Dutch traders but only at specific port cities. And the Vision Hunt is similar to periods in Japan where the government confiscated swords from Samurai, to cut down on all the roving bands of bandits and mercenaries that threatened authority and peace. The reasons for each in Genshin is different from the real world of course but there are some similarities since Inazuma is based on Japan
Thanks for this history. Bethany loves history but we are both ignorant when it comes to Japanese culture and history. Something we hope to correct with a trip there sometime 🙂
Oh the delicious irony of being scammed in the nation of contracts. Always nice to see Beidou. Some call her 'pirate mommy'. I call her 'ultimate wine aunt'. This part was insight into how rough the situation is in Inazuma and how little people understand of Visions.
Slight clarification on what happened with Kazuha's friend. Kazuha's friend challenged the Tenryou Commission(the one doing the Vision Hunt Decree with their representive as the girl on the Shogun's side) to a duel before the throne. The Shogun is only the arbiter of the duel, she doesn't take sides. There is only one law when someone challenges another to a duel before the throne. The loser gets handed with Divine Punishment, courtesy of the Shogun. So basically Kazuha's friend actually got a win-win condition. If he won, he gets what he wants regarding the Vision Hunt Decree or The Tenryou Commission(we are not sure on what he asked) but if he loses, which he did, he get to face Divine Punishment and try his hand on actually countering it, which is also something he wanted.
Beidou was my genshin main for a long time. She’s such a cool character that we do not see enough of. She does have some backstory in a hangout quest, but those are a bit tricky and hit or miss. Hangout quests are like “choose your own adventure “ quests with alternate endings. Usually there’s one ending that’s more impactful, but some endings are somewhat boring. So newer players might get a boring ending and lose interest in hangout or trying to get the alternate endings.
For that matter, you can't walk, swim or sail OUT of Inazuma right away, although fewer players notice that because the waypoint network I suspect Paimon is powering works just fine because unlike some later periods in the game, nothing is restraining your consciousness from refocusing to a different point in your journey. (First thing I tried, of course.) Would love to be able to replay that point in the story now that I've got Furina, though - there ought to be some beautiful camera shots available from the attempt before the blackout point.
@@DanaOtken Oo fair. In my case, I found a way to reach the waverider point on Ritou (without alerting the ones guarding the path and beach) and then used it to start sailing and unlocking waypoints 🤭 started messaging people yelling that I escaped (And her...powering it? Uhhhh, you’re gonna be waiting a long while then. They found out they missed a bunch of events and character quests. And they can’t skip them because Klee is part of them, which is gonna be next week’s video.
So for story continuity sake, Zhongli Story Quest 2 should come before heading to Inazuma, since there will be a reference to what he said. Also, Mona story quest is highly recommended. Its funny and goofy but it sets up a more important side plot in the future once the Traveler enters Fontaine
Fun fact about Beidou: Zodiac sign-wise she's Aquarius like Rosaria so I can see the similarities you noticed. Also Beidou's birthday is on Valentine's Day.
I haven’t been through a lot of Chinese media, but a pattern I’ve always noticed when it comes to background characters in an adventure setting, is that they are always cocky until the main character or other focused characters put them in their place and either: A. Make them humble and less cocky B. Make them more messed up and hate them specifically. Chinese media really do have a thing for being humble unless it’s against a character they want you to hate. And for anyone that’s reading this, and looking forward to these two getting to Inazuma. Gonna have to burst your bubble and say it’s not happening anytime soon. They’ve already been informed as that they missed a lot of events and relevant character quests (one of which is Klee that they love so much), so they’re currently checking those out before they do get to Inazuma. And it’s a lot.
We've slowly had more backstory here dripped in via events; turns out there was a lot going on that wasn't especially visible at the time playing through and not all of the obscurement was due to the abridgements made for technical reasons. While the early Inazuma storyline is clearly a reflection of real Japanese history it turns out there's a complex chain of events in-game that led to justifying it in-setting rather than just jerks cast as jerks because we needed jerks. While it turns out Kazuha is failing to share some of his family history which could shed considerable light into what's happening, not only has he no reason to believe it's relevant but I'm not sure what we could have done with that information at the start anyway: as with Liyue we find all parties far better off for having taken the long way around. In general, it isn't just Kazhua in this chapter: nobody is really telling you everything they know that you'd badly want to, but at the same time everybody with goodwill towards you will be extremely honest about what they do share. It's easy to miss the emphasis being placed on separating out what is known, what is heard of, and what is personally suspected. Even those who I'm now sure at least guessed at the answer to the central puzzle here are unwilling to taint a possible friend's opinion with mere conjecture. You met Atsuko early on upon arrival in Liyue Harbor, so she would be available at this point in the story for exposition. Understand that you're inevitably going to miss a lot watching videos highlighting the main story points; a major reason for the game's popularity was the extreme amounts of history and detail worked into the world. Atsuko's family is readily findable on Narukami Island, and in fact you'd probably pass right by their farm going to the capitol. It's even possible to investigate the situation there and find a well-meaning tanuki has impersonated an Atsuko back for a visit from her spectacularly successful hypothetical life in the distant and exotic land of Liyue and helped out with the chores and looking after her younger siblings. You are also hearing a deliberate copy of how in real life "no contact martial arts" are sold; while they don't really work a peculiarity of human nature is that it is possible to set up an environment where people who want badly enough to believe will feel themselves being tossed to the ground by somebody who didn't even touch them, and people who want that badly to believe will pay to learn how to do it. You can find what's probably the guy who taught them elsewhere in Liyue, currently giving instruction on how to hit somebody dozens of times so quickly that nobody can see you move. (Playing Ningguang, I took a screenshot standing next to him. His eyes went straight to my breasts; while an accident of how NPCs are animated it seemed very appropriate in this case.) ...I did let "Mr. Perfect" try to throw a couple of kicks at me, and skipped out of the way of both - carefully not using a real dodge technique - before hitting him once, waiting for him to get up and try attacking me again, before just finishing the fight. The later opponents were halfway decent as repurposed NPC opponents went. (The next time we had an Inazuman tournament, the devs had the time to create a dedicated combat system for it. It was fun. I won it using a haunted umbrella in lieu of a sword.) You have failed to grasp a plot point of the Liyue storyline: the only reason any guards ever pursued you and Paimon was that Ningguang was too distracted to immediately tell them to leave you alone, you then snuck just far enough away she couldn't see them starting to chase you and intercede - and Childe then managed to get both you and the hot pursuit out of range and moving to quickly for recall orders to reach them in time. Not a single guard even looked at you funny upon reentering Liyue Harbor because Ningguang had given up on her original plan to meet you after the ceremony and send you to Jueyun Karst to meet the adepti (which would have gone poorly under those circumstances), had ordered the guards to leave you alone, and knowing you'd been to Jueyun Karst on your own behalf was planning to ask the adeptus Ganyu to find you instead hoping you wouldn't run from her. The amazing thing is that Paimon gave you the best advice possible for the worst reasons possible when she told you to run. It isn't just human society that makes Inazuma feel uncomfortable at first: the land and its elemental currents are designed for that effect. You go from the open, sweeping and gentle energies of Monstadt to the tightly knotted elemental marks left in Liyue by millenia of little secrets and covered scars to a land whose elemental energies give the feel of testing with prejudice: they actually need to get to know you before you have any real protection from them - and even then, using Inazuman ley lines to travel means that rather then being gently lifted and guided through wind currents or meditating for a hidden earthen way to open you're being suddenly hurled into the air to either react in time to continue your travel or fall. The rock looks far easier to climb than it really is, storms in Inazuma range from very abruptly there and gone again to near-perpetual hammering to "how is any trace of life remaining in this area?" to "it visibly isn't." In contrast, the energies of Sumeru impersonally love you at first sight: the rainforest is a vast source of life energy happily supplying itself to the apex predator it recognizes you as and the desert merely needs some refinement of the techniques you're already using for speedy traversal. Fontaine - Fontaine is mostly doing its own thing. It is a gracious and fair host, making its refined Hydro energies available for your use, but it will not explain itself and if you mess with the world there you do so on your own recognizance. It is dramatic, often beautiful, and at times unapologetically confusing. Don't have a reliable read on Natlan yet.
Not for a long while. They found out they missed a bunch of events that are before Inazuma and certain character quests. Especially Klee, who they watch after this one. And since Klee is involved in an event, they’re definitely not skipping them.
