Thank you so much! I live in Louisiana and just moved to an upstairs apartment with 18 steps. We had an ice storm-never in LA. This is the ONLY thing that worked.
Wow, I have a gutter that drips right on my head as I go out the door, then it becomes a skate rink! I'm going to find an old towell & do this in the morning. Thank you, thank you! Have a blessed day 🌈💚🙏💚🌈
I came back to say a huge thanks - this worked on our very slippery stone steps up to the front door. Our postie and delivery drivers all commented: never seen this before but it's an excellent idea! Wish I'd known about this sooner. Warmest wishes from icy Ipswich, UK
I do the same only using cold water to glue sand down on the sidewalk. A short piece of rain gutter can help keep ice off the first steps there. And no, I have no problem with ice buildup from pouring more water on it. Good video, thanx for putting it up.
Thanks so much for the idea! Right now I have not one but two dogs with cruciate ligament issues so I have to be very careful about them going up and down stairs. This will save me so much time shoveling and sweeping and will give me peace of mind as well.
Never thought about using this technique. We full time RV and there have been quite a few cases where one of us has slid down our RV door steps...ouch! We usually use salt but if we don't rinse it off in a timely manner it can lead to rusting. Will try this on our next icy day to prevent future bruising or worse:( Thanks!!
What a great idea for RV steps! Hope it works. I think if it sticks/freezes too well, you could just pour a bunch of warm water over it right before you want to remove it.
I have 17 metal steps that go up to my apartment; and, after having knee surgery back in March I'm not looking forward to having to go up and down them this winter, although there is a rail on one side. I don't know what I could do to keep that many metal steps from icing up nearly every morning at least when there's any moisture in the air at all during the winter.
I'm sure it would. It would probably get covered faster by any future frost/ snow, because it's thinner and smoother. Then you could just add more layers as needed.
Nice idea and my family had been doing just the bottom landing with an old rug, your idea is much better and thrifts have lots of towels if we don't. BTW where did you buy your boots?
Very smart, but I don't know what your money situation is like but if you were to build a 3 step handrail to hold on to as you walk out into the backyard.
If you use calcium chloride it’s safe for pets and non harmful with concrete or the environment. Works down to -30C I’m on the east coast of Canada and this would never work we get ice storms all the time. That towel would turn into a scaring rink in a matter of minutes
Thank you SO much - you just saved a couple of old people who have not lived in a snow area from falling on their behinds :)
Glad to hear it!

That is genius wow !!! thanks for that coz it will help save money and prevents falls 🥳
Absolutely! I just put another towel down today. Still love this method, been doing it for years. Hope it works for your space, too.

this was the BEST way to keep from slipping. seen many with so many different chemicals and this is what shows to be the best for man and beast

Does this work on wood decks ?
I bet it would!
would fabric work as well?

Do you not gave better things to do with your time, than about HELPFUL people?
Nope! It's an old chicken feed bag I'm reusing as an outdoor trash bag. :)
