What a great idea to build public interest in the canal system. In the early 1990's, I participated in a 10 day tour of the Erie Canal in upstate New York (USA) on behalf of the newly created Canal Authority. Most of the people in the towns we stopped in, had no idea of how valuable the canal was, even though it no longer carried commercial traffic. One of the features that got the locals interested was the total restoration of the towpath from one end to the other for use as a 300+ mile, bicycling, jogging, walking path across New York. The town administrators moaned about the loss of revenue from commercial boats and failed to realize that selling 500, $2.00 bags of ice to pleasure boaters was the same revenue as $1,000.00 fee charged to a commercial boat, plus, the pleasure boaters actually stopped in the town and visited shops and restaurants!
I'm afraid the speeded up beginning made me feel sea-sick, but things got better and better, especially the dog retrieving his ball from the water; and the bonus ending was a splendid treat! This was 4 years ago, I'm sure you'd be recognised and greeted today (unless you've become such a celebrity that people just point but are embarrassed to speak to you!).
My Cruising the Cut marathons complete, over the last 4 days I have been transported to a place I never knew existed. I have been entertained, educated, and I have laughed. Superb Vlog, thank you. I look forward to your next installment.
perfect I think your narrow boat adventure is a fascinating look at your country waterways and a very unique way to RV... very cool!!! I will feature "cruising the cut" in a few days...
Hello from Salem, Massachusetts, USA. I have just binged watched all of your videos and I found then fascinating. We have a few old canals here in New England, but most of them have been abandoned and derelict for decades and decades. I admire what you in the UK have done to preserve and reinvigorate them. What a great way to make something so old relevant again. I enjoy your sense of humor and I don't think you are a "numpty". Keep the videos coming! Thanks! Richard Lheureux
Great episode! I've been binge watching your vlog, now you have me thinking about selling everything I have when I retire in 10 years, and moving to England and living on a Narrow boat!
your vlogs are bloody great they show the spirit of narrow boating and living on the canal with the exception for winter it must be like a permanent holiday
Think Game of Thrones, you end up at all hours pouring through the episodes and then all of a sudden 'OH NO" is that all there is ? Yep, I am up to date and now must travel along in life at Long Boat speed. So I await your pleasure, and at 1.10 am on Friday (9/09/2016 my bed awaits me, Thanks for a great bit of your life in the last 2 days and I am glad that you, A: got a midlife shunt. B: and took us along for the ride. Oh well, goodnight and I await your next adventure and a few water birds as well. Tony in Australia.
I remember working on the Coventry canal back in the 60's on the Wyken arm and getting it back in to working order...as part of the Coventry Canal Society...still going strong....
I haven't seen a one-man band since I was a teenager! Brilliant! When the dog jumped in the canal to get his ball I laughed so hard I had to have a cup of water. I love the bagpipes even though I can't listen to them anymore as I have developed a migraine-inducing hypersensitivity to high-pitched sounds. Bloody shame that. Keep up the great work mate! Cheers!
Well I'm pretty sure you would be stopped and recognized in this setting now! Thank you for the lovely Vlogs. You have inspired me to renew my British passport as a Canadian born to British parents living in Canada. I hope to return to Britain in the near future and join you on the canals. Life here has become much to too samey and it's time to change things up alot. I've actually been thinking of selling my house here and living aboard a narrowboat for some time now... I've had a campervan a few years now so get a relative idea of the lifestyle. Thanks David!
Hi saw your interview on 'Life on a Narrowboat'. As I watch all your Vlog's it was nice to know your name and what you used to do. Understand now why you put such good, articulate and humorous videos up. All very informative and enjoyable. Looking forward to the next one!
Rotten spring weather here in New Zealand today so what better to do than rewatch your vlogs from number one. I have enjoyed all of them. Only 60 or so to go. :) Thank you for posting them.
I.think that will be the very last event EVER, that you won't be recognised by somebody. Super film David, great entertainment at the end - reminded me of Don Partridge
Just watched them all. I can't wait for the next one! I wish we had something like this in the US.. I especially love the views of the animals and countryside. In Texas I used to pass by cows and goats a lot but as of late they're turning the surrounding farmland into public schools, and many of those farms are family run since the eighteen hundreds. Sad to see them go, but at least you show plenty of that sort of thing in your vlogs! Much thanks!
Excellent - it was a pleasure to watch. We must say there was another person whose attendance at the same event and they also presented a video - no comparison - yours was so professional and easy to watch and very informative - many thanks for your effort.
Hello from Texas. I had a day off from work today and discovered your videos while exploring youtube. Made a marathon of it and watched all 59 videos back to back. I enjoyed every minute of them and I am looking forward to new ones to be released in the future. Thank you for sharing your travels and wishing you the best of luck winning that lotto you mentioned. 8-)
What a fabulous weekend this must have been. Thanks for the great job you did in presenting so much of it. The bonus content featured what, I believe, is the process by which The Ruttles got their start, and achieved international super stardom. Cheers!
A very in depth, lovely to watch film, your detail to different subjects makes it very entertaining. You missed Gongoozler who I believe visited on Sunday, a pity you didn't meet. I look forward to your next vlog.
A very interesting journey which I don't think I am able to get to do. TQ and keep it up and hope fully we can see more of your touring in where ever you go. Take care
This was a really nice vlog, you should look out for opportunities to make such ones, to document the strange and charming culture around those canals you got are fascinating for people living in areas not familiar with it, else, I assume there are not still commercial use of the canals anymore, only used for leisure use
I quite Fancy the Mid-Helmed boat myself . It seems to create a separate Captain's quarters in the rear. Maybe the perfect charter boat for weekend rental with a captain? I loved the one man band music dude in the super secret footage tagged on the end. Very professional video. Keep up the great work.
I'm really enjoying your Narrowboat/Canal videos. I enjoy seeing the culture behind them and often imagine that if I had the money I would like to pay someone to fix up sections of canal and if possible add a docking area or two in the new sections.
Loved the bonus video haha. Love all your videos in fact. Several times you mention when you win the lotto. From my perspective you have. Thanks and keep them coming.
As a member of the IWA and as my dream is to permanently cruise the cut myself, I really like your videos. You are helping to keep my dream alive. Currently I live in a static caravan on a very nice site, but it doesn't float and it doesn't move ;-)

So now watched all of your vlogs since last night that must be a record , very good enjoyed them very much looking forward to the next one , I think I will stick to the Broads all the same all the locks to much like hard work , we have about 115 miles of the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads and only one lock thank god keep up the good work ...
Greetings from Scarborough, Ontario in Canada! Just watched a couple of your vids and they are very interesting. Your part of the world is lovely. Will probably watch more of your vids. Keep your camera dry!
Wow so I just now learned that England has such a massive canal system lol so that's cool. What an interesting and fun life you must live! I love it. Also your voice is so BBC I feel like I'm learning even when you were talking about the dog and his ball.
Worth the wait Sir. Hopefully your family matters are not drastic and are sorted out soon. I told my wife that you remind me of James May. Maybe the BBC will take a fancy to the Narrow boat life. :-) Cheers.
So jealous of your canal/narrowboat traditions! Nothing like it in the USA! I would Love to visit there someday, take a trip on the canals! Thx for your organized, entertaining, informative vlogs! I just discovered you and have already watched about half of your channel! Good luck on the rest of your year on the water! Hope you can find ways to support your adventure! .pgw/OR/USA
I have binge watched them all as well and I'm looking forward to more. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I am from Florida, here we have the ICW but it is nothing like the canals. The locks are fascinating. The tunnels would scare me, creepy crawly creatures have to live in them. I could also listen to you articulate verbiage all day long. Safe travels.
New Subscriber! Seen your video on Exploring Alternatives. Great video! You truly have wonderful video editing skills. Makes it much more interesting to watch! Thanks for sharing
I really miss having canals here in Australia. By the time we were industrial enough to need bulk transport it was Railway Time. Every time I do a trip to the UK I end up on a canal tour somewhere. Maybe one day I will see you - and I will loudly recognize you!
Such a festive air! Interesting interview with the gentleman from IWA. Too bad the tea cost £2.50!! In my part of the world you can still get a special masala chai at Rs. 10, that's 8 pence to you!! Btw, it's Independence Day holiday here in India today, so I am celebrating with double my daily quota of your vlogs. Cheers!
I preferred the sound of the one man band at the end tbh, I'm not keen on the drone bagpipes produce nor the high pitch sound in general; I do admire anyone who can play an instrument though.
Good show vlog - I liked the centre-helmed boat. And the one-man-band bonus had a lot going on - very good. _I_ recognised you on this vlog - is that any help ? :o) Cheers, Dave
try that again, Lovely to see. I went on a 72 footer near rugby with my parents and sister when i was about 10 and on the black ring i remember it was 5 minute-lock mile then me and my sister did the locks between us setting up ahead and steering while our parents relaxed. But when we went on the seven ship canal my father did the steering , but i didn't mind as it was pissing down better inside. the canals have improved a lot we mostly had to use the plank as you couldn't get near the tow path and very little ironwork to tie to
I have throughly enjoyed watching your vlog. Coming from across the pond I am envious of your canal system and am wishing we had something like this at home. Maybe I could take a year off and take a lengthy cruise.... wonder if I could get a visa for that ;-)
The one man band guy was awesome. Loved the little jumping puppets.
A big thank you to the IWA for saving the canal system after the war years. Not only for boaters but especially for the wild habitat.
The one man band was terrific!

I _adore_ the boat festival episodes they're so...festive. It's also really novel to see that many narrowboats together.

Kudos for sitting through them all!! Cheers
how entertaining.....that musician at the end was priceless... great video I am going to recommend your channel on a RVerTV video soon
Thank you Russ! That's given me an idea to go a Vlog about all the other boat/RV channels I watch so I could return the favour. Cheers
perfect I think your narrow boat adventure is a fascinating look at your country waterways and a very unique way to RV... very cool!!! I will feature "cruising the cut" in a few days...
That one man band though!!! So coordinated!! I can barely chew gum and walk.
I always wonder how people work out they want to be a one-man band. It's not like there's classes. Possibly support groups, though 🤔
They were probably too intimidated to approach a celebrity of your stature.
Haha yes that must have been it ;-)

This is a good piece of journalism with informative interviews.
Loved the boat with the rear cabin and 'mid' section control area
Having had boating holidays in the past,we enjoy watching and listening to your videos.thank you. keep up the good work!

Great one man band @9:14

The video skill is top notch'

There’s a walk through tour of Felonious Mongoose here on RUclips and from what I remember it’s pretty impressive!
The waterways is "A National Treasure" for sure.
You UK Canalers are a breed of your own. Good on you. Much to be learned from you.
Cheers
Just watched all 59 videos in two days ,, very very interesting, well done
I think I should send you a medal or something! Cheers
Looks a great weekend. Lots of great boats.
It was.
Phuu!, 59 videos done. Great fun. :)
Congratulations!
Or a boat for arguing couples?!!
LOL Love the one man band
Charlie
Thanks for another great video and cutting the pipes short.
Cheers. What, you didn't enjoy the pipes?!!
DUH.
As ever... Top telly... Many thanks.
Cheers
How wonderful! Thanks for the report🤩
Good one Dave, liked the one man band, keep them coming am enjoying your life on the cut.
Cheers Ken
I'm really enjoying your Narrowboat/Canal videos. I enjoy seeing the culture behind them and often imagine that if I had the money I would like to pay someone to fix up sections of canal and if possible add a docking area or two in the new sections.
Thank you. You'd need quite a bit of money!
CruisingTheCut I think I would need to inherit a large corporation or something. :P
Don't we all...
Loved the bonus video haha. Love all your videos in fact. Several times you mention when you win the lotto. From my perspective you have. Thanks and keep them coming.
I did win £15.80 a week or two ago ;-)
As a member of the IWA and as my dream is to permanently cruise the cut myself, I really like your videos. You are helping to keep my dream alive. Currently I live in a static caravan on a very nice site, but it doesn't float and it doesn't move ;-)
Given enough local flooding... Cheers
Not you're not alone, I too balk at the cost of a cup of tea (and coffee) some outlets want to charge me these days.
Awesome video as always :)
Thanks Mads!
Heck, you were still star of the show...
That guy at the end was a trip! LOL
Another nice vlog.
:-)
Bravo for the IWA!
'CruisingTheCut' came up in my recommended video section, while I was watching 'Jon Olsson Yatch Tour Princess'. If you don't know Jon's vlogs are beautiful people, Leica camera's, colour grading, drones and dubstep music. It did make me wonder if RUclips's wisdom had fallen short with suggesting 'CruisingTheCut'! After a few minutes of head scratching wondering what an earth I was watching, I found myself transfixed to the laptop screen. So much so infact, I've just finished watching every vlog from the very beginning! My channel is about all about photography with Sony camera's, and I think I spotted you using a 4K Sony camera. I like your style, and you clearly have a talent for film making. You also have good sound, which so many people forget. I'm a little sad now I've reached the last vlog. I should of paced myself rather than binge watch all in one go! Must admit I'd love to see you do some motorhome video's, even if you just rent one for a holiday. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! Yes, a Sony AX53 camcorder. I used to work in radio so sound is important :-) I keep pondering building a campervan ;-)
It was not so much you weren't recognized, but you are well known. So other people look at you as a regular member of the nb community. I think that is a discreet compliment.
Ah, I was just joking about the recognition thing you understand ;-)
im in america, lakewood calif to be exact and i enjoyed your report/vlog.these boats really cool.
Glad you're enjoying it. Cheers.
Hi I love your videos. My husbands aunt and uncle have spent quite a bit of your summer walking the Thames and sending emails and photos back to us in NZ. They have said how friendly people have been and some boats they have met a few times.
Glad you like the videos. Yes, boaters do seem generally nice!
Well, it's official! I'm hooked on your channel.
Excellent!
your videos are great. i follow the tiny house movment in usa. your videos really pair nicely. be curious to learn more about the "how" of living. how you plan your visits to refill propane, how much you use, how to dump your waste station and plan it, how you plan your week, how you get around while off your boat, etc. great videos though, very informative and excellent quality.
Thanks. A tank of propane lasts me 6 months and I have 2 so easy to find somewhere to buy another when one expires. There are lots of waste bins around the canal network too. Cheers
# 59, One of your BEST vlogs in my opinion......
Loved the bonus footage (especially the dancers).......
Lovely weather that day it seemed toooooooo.
Sorry to hear about the bombshell falling on your ego. :)
Thank you. Glad someone's found and enjoyed the bonus track :-) The ego is bruised but will survive.
What are you doing up so late/early?
It was not late..?
Oops, sorry. I thought the UK was 5 hours ahead of us here near NYCity. Actually I am currently taking a 3 year course in senility training for preparation to enter my 7th decade appropriately. Perhaps I am doing quite well with my studies and this is just proof positive? :)
Hmm, I thought we were 5 hours ahead too. But midnight's not too late to be up!
Thank you. Yes, locks keep you fit :-)
As always a great episode thanks.
:-)
Greetings from Scarborough, Ontario in Canada! Just watched a couple of your vids and they are very interesting. Your part of the world is lovely. Will probably watch more of your vids. Keep your camera dry!
Haha, thanks. Keeping the camera dry can be tricky some days :-)
One of your better vlogs, really enjoyed this one. Keep the good work going. Also looking forward to you nosing around other people s boat.
Thanks
Wow so I just now learned that England has such a massive canal system lol so that's cool. What an interesting and fun life you must live! I love it. Also your voice is so BBC I feel like I'm learning even when you were talking about the dog and his ball.
Hahaha!!! Cheers
loved this! wish i was there sipping the 2.60 tea
No-one should have to sip £2.60 tea!
Unrelated to the water festival,? You do have the best blog music and I really enjoy it.
Hoorah I have caught up in real time. Now I look forward with bated breath for the next episode!!!!!
Don't hold your breath too long, I've been busy with some work and some family matters so it's taking a while.
Worth the wait Sir. Hopefully your family matters are not drastic and are sorted out soon. I told my wife that you remind me of James May. Maybe the BBC will take a fancy to the Narrow boat life. :-) Cheers.

I just discovered you and have already watched about half of your channel! Good luck on the rest of your year on the water! Hope you can find ways to support your adventure! .pgw/OR/USA
Thank you! Plenty of hire firms here willing to let you take a boat out for a week or two ;-)
I second that! I wish there was something like this in the US. Love these videos.
:-D
Thank you!
I'm glad the canals still are in use. Its a great past time, or for any use you would want. I believe that was the Douglas Plad on the piper.
I will defer to your greater knowledge on the tartan!
Oh dear! I've binge watched the whole lot over a couple of days. What am I going to do now?? Great job. Lots of fun.
Watch them all again in case there's anything you missed. Be sure to watch any ads that play, too :-)
I have binge watched them all as well and I'm looking forward to more. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I am from Florida, here we have the ICW but it is nothing like the canals. The locks are fascinating. The tunnels would scare me, creepy crawly creatures have to live in them. I could also listen to you articulate verbiage all day long. Safe travels.

cool bonus footage
That was really cool so thanks for showing.
Lovely video. I laughed out loud twice. Including one belly laugh. I'm sure this is not your intention, but you are very funny.
I'm glad you're laughing but you're right - this is serious journalism.
New Subscriber! Seen your video on Exploring Alternatives. Great video! You truly have wonderful video editing skills. Makes it much more interesting to watch! Thanks for sharing
Thank you and thanks for tuning in to my channel. Cheers.
I really miss having canals here in Australia. By the time we were industrial enough to need bulk transport it was Railway Time. Every time I do a trip to the UK I end up on a canal tour somewhere. Maybe one day I will see you - and I will loudly recognize you!
Please do!
That's what the world needs more of . . . one man (or woman) bands!
And that was the last event you attended where you could be anonymous and just observe others without being gawked at :-)
The Bonus content had me laughing. Thank You
Such a festive air! Interesting interview with the gentleman from IWA. Too bad the tea cost £2.50!! In my part of the world you can still get a special masala chai at Rs. 10, that's 8 pence to you!! I love the bagpipes.
That makes my ego much happier ;-)
Rosie and jim!!! started to think I was the only one who used to watch it.
I've actually never seen it :-)
try that again, Lovely to see. I went on a 72 footer near rugby with my parents and sister when i was about 10 and on the black ring i remember it was 5 minute-lock mile then me and my sister did the locks between us setting up ahead and steering while our parents relaxed. But when we went on the seven ship canal my father did the steering , but i didn't mind as it was pissing down better inside. the canals have improved a lot we mostly had to use the plank as you couldn't get near the tow path and very little ironwork to tie to
Happy memories!
you were behind the camera, so, that's why we never saw you. nice video
I reached the secret Bonus content!! Excellent :D
Felonious mongoose is definitely an amazing name.
That's a lot of boats... Great video.
Cheers
Excellent reporting.
Thank you
I have throughly enjoyed watching your vlog. Coming from across the pond I am envious of your canal system and am wishing we had something like this at home. Maybe I could take a year off and take a lengthy cruise.... wonder if I could get a visa for that ;-)
If there isn't a "cruising the canals" visa, there jolly well should be!!
