I had no idea I could be so proud of someone I’ve never even met. I’ve been watching your channel for about 6 months, and I’m just amazed by your progress. Thanks for letting us in and sharing not just decluttering, but your thought process as well. When I watched videos from several years ago there is such a huge difference to your ability to let go. Keep up the good work. I’m excited to see that basement finished!

I used to have my own version of "Don't put it down, put it away." except it was "Don't do it later, do it now." It did help a lot until I stopped doing it because it drove me bonkers that my roommate didn't have the same energy and in order to remain in good terms I had to calm down on it. Now I have a place of my own and have to learn to do it all over again.

Dishwash hack: when you unload the dishwasher put in dish soap for the next load. That way everyone in the family knows if there is soap it is dirty. If there isn’t soap it is clean. I couldn’t keep up on changing the sign. The soap trick has worked for me.

Don't put it down, put it away. Can't wait until I get to that stage. I have so much junk scattered everywhere that nothing has a home. When I try to make headway, sometimes I just stand there holding the item and no place to put it away. I will have to watch your beginning videos to help me work through this process. You should be proud of yourself. I know I admire you for all you have accomplished.

I have been using that trick of turning the medicine bottles upside down and then by the end of the day setting them all back upright for years. It has saved me a lot of grief.

I specifically searched for ADHD friendly organization and this video came up. I was getting overwhelmed by all the unkind, toxic levels of minimalism and was honestly starting to feel like I didn't want to keep on with my cleaning/organizing journey. This has been the refresh I needed and I plan to watch more videos. So far this year, I've consolidated and organized 2 junk drawers into 1, turned the freed up drawer into a tea/honey/coffee drawer which is right under my new coffee station I set up and I'm half way done with 2 bathrooms. One was incredibly overwhelming because for 3 years it became the "I dunno where to put it" room. Since they're right next to each other (weird 1990 condo for $100 please) I've been doing the same phase in both bathrooms before moving on to the next phase because I'm afraid both won't get done otherwise. I'm excited to say I should be able to take a long, hot bath soon. I struggle with ADHD that went undiagnosed for over 30yrs and chronic pain/severe arthritis. So, if it takes me a whole year to do it all, so be it. A psychologist I got to speak to who specializes in helping clinical hoarding said slow and steady, one small bite at a time over 12-18mo is healthiest anyway. He likened it to weight loss. If you do small bits at a time, you're more likely to keep up with it as maintaining the already accomplished bits gets folded into your routine.

RIGHT!? "throw it out if you can replace it in under 20 minutes for under 20 dollars"... so like.. they want me to rebuy soap every single day?
Minimalism is for rich people with a lot of free time I think

Some thing that helps me clean up the kitchen is to look from left to right and put away the next thing. So I start at the microwave and move clockwise until I'm back at the microwave. It works better for me than looking for like items or the easiest things or all the things that go in the pantry. I might make three trips to the pantry but somehow it works better and I get a little exercise. Also if I get distracted I can simple start back at the microwave and look to the right and find what is next.

That's how I was taught to clean hotel rooms ... start on one side of the door and work around the room.
After you have decluttered it works well.
A really messy room might need two circuits: one for removing trash and clutter, then second one to actually clean surfaces.

I love this! As a fellow adhder I relate to this a lot. I always say if I can't see it I will forget about it. So I have to find a balance between less clutter and being minimal, nut also having things within my reach as you do. Baskets and labels are a friend or clear bins! I also have to clean as I cook or I get incredibly overwhelmed afterwards and I just end up not cooking as much like I would like to. Husband works a lot and shouldn't have to cook all the time, the kids love when I bake ☺️ Thank you for always putting out info about us neurodivergent humans and normalizing it!

What I love most about your channel is you’re not like:
I was a hoarder and then I cleaned and now I’m all better and so can you! If you buy my binder of tasks or course or hire me to coach you…
I love that this is a constant struggle for you because a lot of us are dealing with this and it doesn’t stop if you put a monumental effort into it one week and the. Exhaust yourself to the point you refuse to do anything after for like a month.
That you are making consistent, manageable changes to reprogram your subconscious is the power the rest of us can count on as we see your progress.
Doing awesome! Keep up the great work! So grateful for this inspiration! Like you have no idea. ❤🎉 THANK YOU! 🙏

“Don’t put it down, put it away” is also what helps keep my spaces organized. I actually hear ‘the minimal mom’ in my head when I am about to put something down and thinking “I will deal with this later” - no, go put it to its final destination. And also the night routine in the kitchen clearing it for the next day, helps me too.
Followed you for a year or two now and always excitingly waiting to see what your up to. This video was really nice to see how you are managing to keep up your spaces and what is working.

Wow! I had drifted away from your channel.., in the interim have been diagnosed with ADHD too!! The reason I had been so addicted to your channel in the first place is I resonated with your struggles; I have been struggling with some degree of hoarding, disorganisation etc as well as the cleaning as I go. So, jumping back in, a year later seeing and hearing your ADHD hacks is so helpful to me! I’ve got some catching up to do! I’m going to add your mantra- don’t put it down, put it away - to a mantra I have let go of a little as well which was - everything needs a home. You’ve shown me… first set up the home for everything (or re-home it to the thrift store etc) and then the daily habit isn’t so bad… You are very inspirational. ❣️

I take meds and vitamins every day. I bought 3 weekly pill organizers and fill them up. I put all back stock away and the other 2 weeks put away. I leave the 1 week organizer out. I know by looking if I’ve missed a day. That would help clear that big basket off your counter and all you would have is the little organizer. Plus you wouldn’t have to open every bottle every day. And I refill them every 3 weeks at one time. I hope this helps.

omg! "don't put it down, put it away" has become my motto. It will change my life. With my ADD I will get a pen from the junk drawer, write a note on the counter directly above it, then walk away to take care of the note. the pen will stay there for days, in the way, just being clutter. I have been trying to say this any time I am tempted to leave something out that is easy to put away. also when I take off my clothes, I leave them on the floor even if I won't wear them tomorrow. Now I force myself to walk to the closet to hang up, or I have a drawer for "worn but not dirty." (another tip for ADD I have S hooks for my pants and shorts. That way they can be easily hung but with my ADD I will never get a hanger down every time.)

The upside down meds bottles - just brilliant. Thank you! I have a bag and take them all out at once and put each one back in as I take it - but I love this idea. Same with the countertop basket which I'm going to do today for my husband's vitamins and meds. My meds bag - an insulated lunch bag, hangs on a hook right beside the chair I sit in in the evening, with a water glass and refill bottle beside it. Not the nicest looking thing but I was missing so many doses. Now I never do.

Another tip I just taught myself: Never leave a room without taking something that belongs to the room you are going to. If I am going to the kitchen from the living room I take a glass, coffee cup, magazine or trash paper etc. I never leave without something in my hand (unless there's nothing to go - which is never). Then put it where it belongs immediately. I can manage one item at a time on any day, no matter how had the distraction. Same with any pile I have - pick up something from a kitchen pile that belongs in the room I'm going to - just one thing. It's manageable and the anxiety burst is very low.

I love listening to you narrate your videos. I’ve never been diagnosed as adhd or even add because I have never been hyper a day in my life BUT as I listen to you describe your tendencies and fixes I am seeing myself and how I need to set up my home to complete my tasks because at 53 I have figured out how I think. I have a cleaning kit in each bathroom, I have my daily vitamins in a day of the week pill case, and I used to have to set it out to remember to take them all. Now I can have it in a drawer because I’ve made it a habit. I wish I could get my family to “don’t put it down, put it away” because that’s how I’ve remembered to stop leaving clutter too! Very enlightening and inspiring!! Thank you!

These are the best ideas I have ever heard. This was the first video of yours I watched and I am probably gunna binge watch your channel. I have never heard something that made so much since to me. My first challenge will be starting from scratch with no organization already. I’m having issues starting anything lately. First I had no time cause of work then I lost my job so now I can’t start anything cause I don’t have money to.

For the dishwasher, I always pop the soap in as soon as I empty the clean dishes from it. If the soap dispenser is closed it means it has soap in it and the dishes in the dishwasher are dirty, if the dispenser is empty the dishes in the dishwasher are clean. But, whatever works for you, is the best.

I got the book organising solutions for adhd and it made a messy chaotic flat into a clean and cool one. The key to me is 1on1 mapping of purpose and storage place and a unique distinguishing visual attribute of each storage place. And availability through one , max 2 hand movements

thanks for these videos have helped me organize home better. i find really hard to arrange things and i forget easily where some item is and where i last saw it. It`s like when i put it down to table and start focus something random i forget instant what i did 😨. Adhd & autism personality is really tiring and exhausting..
