I can't afford nice art supplies. I see people constantly using those expensive Copic markers and expensive colored pencils and making beautiful things, and it makes me feel inadequate. When I see you make art with ANYTHING and EVERYTHING and it turns out so stunning and breathtaking, it makes me feel better and gives me a motive to take these crappy ass shitmarkers and pencils and make something out of nothing like Peter does. You made an art piece out of NOODLES dammit. One of the best things an artist can do is inspire others with his art and passion. Thanks, Peter.

As an actual real life barista, this has been a very interesting podcast. My fav customers are usually ones like you who life simple coffee. Much easier and more pleasant to talk to than snobs. I love the coffee shop vibe too and usually spend time at the ones near me working on art...If you don't do this already, use cold water to start with, and see if that makes a difference... such is my Professional Recommendation 😁

    Hi Peter!
My name is Max, I'm a barista at a local coffee shop, your concern about bitter coffee is a very very easy fix. You're using too many grounds for the ratio of water. It should be 2 tablespoons for 6 ounces of water. Too much coffee will make it bitter, and too little it will be watery and have a lot of impurities. If you drink plain black coffee, the proper way to drink it is by "slurping" it, this aerates the coffee and spreads it smoothly on the tastebuds. This way you taste the real flavor of the coffee, many coffees taste like cherry, nuts, cocoa, etc. The more kinds of coffee you try the more you'll be able to taste different flavors. I know, I know "max its JUST COFFEE" its actually surprising how many flavors you can pick out if drinking it correctly and with a bit of patience.
Hopefully you see this and happy coffee sipping!
    -Maxim

The reason why all the videos and pictures of northern lights seem overexposed, is because cameras cant pick up the light without it. The light is generally just green and doesn't move that quickly at all. I live in the north of Norway where we see it all the time throughout the winter so here it's not a big deal.

I love when people just come over and don't expect me to do anything with them, but just come and talk or do an activity and chill with me. That's sort of the aesthetic of this podcast and I love it.

I kind of can't believe how much I love a podcast that's about a coffee maker and bitter coffee for the first half. I love how you speak and describe things, you make everything sound so vivid and interesting. It's awesome for when I want to focus on something that's not heavy or sad. I'm so glad you decided to do a podcast, thank you! I'm excited for new episodes.

The auroras are just as amazing as some of the filtered photos imitate. I live in northern Canada and have grown up seeing them all my life. I've seen every colour you can imagine from palest yellows to flame reds and oranges. they can streak across the sky or fill it with dancing, shimmering curtains of brilliance. I freely admit that I take them for granted sometimes. I hope, Peter, that you do get to see them in person.. preferably up north here and on a night so clear that the stars and planets look like precious stones winking in the dark and when you take a breath in through your nose, your nostril hairs freeze solid. hahaha.. (that happens often here)

Peter, aside from any contaminant in your maker, the 2 best things you can do to make your coffee taste good without alot of effort are: buy whole beans and grind fresh, this is really easy. Only grind beans minutes before you use them. The other trick is to drink it immediately. Even after a few minutes on a burner after it has dripped it will quickly start to become more bitter. Drinkable sure, but the bitterness will just grow on the heat.

  • @jeremycbarnhart2305
    @jeremycbarnhart2305 7 лет назад +1

Peter! Run your coffee maker as usual but do not put grounds in. take the water and place in the fridge or just let it sit. then when it warm or cool, try it. youll have a much clearer idea of whats going on with the taste.
    CHEERS!

Peter, you mentioned you enjoyed the simplicity of drinking your coffee black, and that you seem to have an issue with your coffee being bitter. I would recommend looking in to a french press. Boil water, pour over the grounds, stir, wait 5 minutes, push the plunger and you have a simple consistent cup of coffee.

There's a few things that could be causing bitterness in your coffee. If your grinds are left in too warm a place or are older
Than a week then they could get more bitter. Another thing that can effect bitterness is if the coffee sits on the heating element too long. One thing you might try is getting whole bean coffee and grinding it before you drink it. I recently made that change in my coffee ritual in the morning and it was a game changer for me. Great drawing! Really love this podcast! Would love it if it were on iTunes

If you don't like the bitter flavor in your coffee, I recommend a lighter roast coffee. Perhaps you're a Breakfast Blend person and not a French Roast person. I also recommend trying cold brew. Stir 1 cup of coarse-ground beans into 4 cups of cool water and let it sit for 12-48 hours on the counter or in the fridge. Cover it up if you like, but it's not critical. Then you can strain the grounds out and drink. If you find the result too strong, add hot or cold water to dilute it to your tastes. The cooler brewing temperature doesn't allow the bitter compounds from the bean to dissolve in the water as easily, so you get a much mellower flavor.

I like to go to coffee shops and have breakfast because I like the sounds and hustle and bustle of people around,, but don't like to interact too much. For your question on the Aurora Borealis - As someone who's seen it twice in her life, it's actually really hard to describe. Seeing it in a picture is one thing, a video is nice too (and I do get a bit annoyed with videos that speed it up), but I do know what you mean about feeling as though people are editing it. Cameras can't capture quite what the human eye can. And as great as technology has become, it doesn't even compare to the real thing. You're still looking at it on a flat surface (paper, screen), whereas seeing it for yourself... it fills the whole sky with its dance. It goes fast, slow, you lose track of time, the colours of its ribbons(or sheer curtains) glow in the dark sky. It starts in the distance and your mind wonders where it will go (because it has no set path you can see), but it's overwhelming when it gets to right above you and it fills the sky, but you can still see the stars beyond. Where you see it too contributes to the experience (the smell in the air, the sounds nearby, the temperature, etc). On my second aurora borealis experience, I even had a bit of a cultural experience thrown in "they say that she'll come closer if you whistle".
It is one of the most magical things I have ever experienced. I hope you get to experience it some day. I know I hope to be lucky enough to experience it at least once more.

i dunno if it's still relevant but! your coffee could be tasting off because the grind of it
is too fine or too coarse, and it could be that the beans are expired or damaged. in general, beans unground should last maybe two weeks, and ground beans last about one, i think.
