    I also don't knit christmas gifts. I can knit gifts during the year but I give them when I finish them - beanies, headbands, ankle socks, baby hats & booties etc small. But I only make them if I feel that the someone would like the colour and would have use for it. My nightmare is that someone wouldn't appreciate it. So I better not knit gifts unless there is a great inspiration.
    I think your Dad's sweater is gorgeous! I think I would like the sleeve fit.
    I wonder what's the difference between Monday and No frills if they are both raglan constructions and you don't want the amount of positive ease in Monday - so why not just knit a No frills? 😅 it seems to me that Petite knit makes so many similar designs that don't differ so much from each other.

    • @AnItalianKnitter
      @AnItalianKnitter  2 года назад +1

      Annika, you have a point 😅 I think people like simple raglan constructions and cannot get enough, so they (me included!) are willing to get their hands on all the raglan patterns they can find 😂
      That said, the Monday sweater (compared to the No Frills) has a folded collar and a three stitch raglan (instead of one stitch raglan), but one could probably make these adjustments on the No Frills, without following a pattern.

    • @annikak.837
      @annikak.837 2 года назад

      @@AnItalianKnitter I get it - I also get excited of all the cozy loose fit patterns that are released all the time (my thing is dropped shoulders sweaters😂), but then I remember I have the Weekend slipover pattern from which I can make and have made so many different sweaters and slipovers. But of course sometimes it's nice just to follow a pattern and don't use energy to modifications, maybe that's why. 🧡

    Lovely to spend some evening knitting time with you, as always 🤩 complimenti on your Dad’s Sweater, it’s a very flattering fit! And though I love knitting raglan sweaters I started to wonder recently wether drop shoulder or set-in sleeve construction like this would fit me better 🤔 it definitely suits you! when it comes to Christmas knitting, I took it upon myself this year for the first and last time ever 😂 I have around 10 gift knits, half of them in 2x2 rib, and am definitely tired with them by now. So today I picked a cardigan for myself that was in its project bag for two months now 😎 I love my family but honestly I knit for them during the year too, while I only have two hand knitted sweaters 🙈 so next year will be the year of selfish knitting 🎉

    • @AnItalianKnitter
      @AnItalianKnitter  2 года назад

      Oh my, 10 gift knits are A LOT! I hope everyone who will receive one will love it as much as you or I would ❤️
      It’s definitely interesting to try different shoulder/sweater constructions and compare the fit. So far the only one I didn’t particularly like are circular yokes (even increases across the yoke instead of raglan increases). 🤷‍♀️ Set-in sleeves and raglan are both equally comfortable for me and I would say they’re my favorite. Good luck with experimenting!
      Nice to see you here again ❤️ I appreciate your support.

    Ciao Francesca, stupendo il Dad's sweater, I love the cut, the fit, the simplicity and your colour choice. I also love the colour and drape of the green one, but not the shape, so I second your frogging it, I do think that the dad sweater's ease is the best on you (but again, I don't like oversized things). Also loving all of your wraps and shawls, the half and half is stunning. I am all about gift knitting, but as I always say, "to each their own" and "you do you"...since I have so far in my knitting life ONLY been gift knitting, I plan to start knitting for myself in 2023...lets see if I can do it, and I totally agree, it is somewhat stressful to knit with deadlines - plus in my case all the fitting of different people😅😅 I guess when i finish all of my projects I will only knit one gift at a time taking it real slow and sticking to knit during the year and not for Christmas...take care 🧶🧶

    Another lovely episode, Francesca. I love your Dad sweater. It looks fab on you. I feel the same way about knitting Christmas gifts. It just adds too much stress for me at an already very busy time of the year. Instead, I usually make each of my children and my husband a pair of socks for their birthday.

  • @kyrynvisser523
    @kyrynvisser523 2 года назад

    I only knit 'gifts' if a person specifically asks for it. I'm currently knitting a jumper for a cousin of mine. I (almost) never give myself a deadline and make sure the recipient know that that is the case. This helps me manage the pressure so it can still be fun for me.

    Your Dad;s Sweater turned out with a great fit on you in spite of your preference for raglans. Of course, most garments look wonderful on you! I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on gift knitting. I try to stay away from gift Christmas knitting or crochet, but sneak in birthday knitting/crochet from time to time. I understand totally about the pressure otherwise.

      The instructions are very clear! 💯 However, if you’re looking for advice, as a first sweater I would probably go for a raglan sweater (No Frills by PetiteKnit is one but there are many more!) instead of a set-in sleeve (Dad’s Sweater), but you do you! Good luck either way and happy knitting 😊

    I love the extra ease in your Monday sweater! It shows off the lovely drape of the yarn and looks generous and luxuriant. I think it would look great with a half tuck. But I respect your preference for less ease. The Dad’s sweater is so beautiful. Also love the way you say ‘merino’. Your green yarn is beautiful, but I agree about deep armholes. They pull up the body and can be difficult for wearing jackets. My ideal would be the green color in the Dad Sweater pattern. I like the fit of set in sleeves with short row (?) shaping.This year I made hats for all of mt cousins and their kids (22), but that was because I am caring for my mother and lots of empty hours to fill. It was economical, as i had lots of leftovers- each hat is a different color/yarn.

    • @AnItalianKnitter
      @AnItalianKnitter  2 года назад

      Oh my! TWENTY-TWO hats sound like an absolutely record 👏 They are so lucky and I hope they all appreciated their hand knit gift as much as you or I would.
      I haven’t actually touched nor fixed my green sweater but I’ll try to get to it this weekend. Changing the pattern (in favour of the Dad’s Sweater) would mean frogging the yoke as well and I don’t know if I want to do that… It would be stunning though! ✨

    I'm still watching the video, I love the color of the Ozetta sweater, and that pattern too. How do you knit so fast? I love to knit things for my family but there's only so much time, and money available for that. I keep spending money on yarn, it has become an addiction. I have to stop, and knit what I have, before buying more. Then, I watch your videos and others, and I want more! Right now I'm knitting a size 2T dress in Buttercup yellow for my nieces little girl Hazel. The project is on my ravelry page, it's called Hazel's Dress. The pattern is adorable and since it's so small, I'm making a lot of progress. I'm going to knit my first pair of socks soon. After learning about the Shadow Wrap Heel & Judy's Magic Cast on. I'm all set to knit all socks starting at the toe, and moving up the leg with a perfect shadow wrap heel in the middle. I didn't like the look of a gusset, and having a seamless toe only makes sense. I can't wait to see how they turn out. I love your triangles wrap, how did you decide on color, there are so many gorgeous options?

      However I’m not 100% sure she ships to the US. I will ask her and report back!
      In the meantime I confirm that the color is stunning. 💚

    I ordered the same yarn in aa different color to make the balloon sweater by petite knit and that is the yarn called for in the pattern. 💕 that's my suggestion for the yarn you purchased 😁
    I love knitting gifts but not for Christmas, I knit birthday gifts for the ones I love. And not everyone, because some people just don't wear knitwear as I have learned by making my daughter a knitted tank to she has never worn. 😏

    I'm already wearing drawstring fleece pants 😂. 🌺 I didn't know fisherman's rib was 75 percent knitting... How the heck do folks complain about that? 😆 I have to try it. I'm doing gift knits this year, it's been easier because I don't go to work, knitting relaxes me. I also decided I can give hats and also give cards with an "upcoming handmade gift in progress" notes if I can't finish soon enough!

    • @AnItalianKnitter
      @AnItalianKnitter  2 года назад

      I must say that this is half fisherman’s rib: looks like regular fisherman’s rib on the right side but doesn’t on the wrong side. Regular fisherman’s rib would have your regular 50% of purl stitches unfortunately 😞
      The gift card for the upcoming knit is such a cute idea! I love your relaxed attitude towards gift knits. That’s what we should all strive for 👏

    Ciao Francesca!!! Il tuo "Dad's sweater" è bellissimo. Sono contenta che ti ho trovata. Sono di origine greca ma essendo sposata con un italiano, sono anni che vivo in Italia. Seguo tanti podcast inglesi ma trovando te posso avere tanti informazioni su filati che posso acquistare dall' Italia. Grazie mille per le idee e le informazioni. Poi la tua semplicità è la nota più piacevole di questo podcast. Sei veramente veloce, fai tante cose. Attualmente io ci provo con il "seli sweater" e va troppo lento 🥴😂

      Ciao Maria! Io pian pianino sto iniziando a provare sempre più filati italiani, anche di piccoli produttori locali. Spero di darti altri consigli in futuro. Un saluto intanto! 👋

    I was planning a lot of gift knits but the more I thought about it and the more my partner and I talked I realized that I would only knit gift for people that we truly feel would love them and take care care of the hard work. So that made the list a lot shorter and we have not promised anything so if I change my mind then no one will be hurt.

      Heather, you knit one sweater MORE THAN ME for my husband 😂 I only stuck to gifting him socks and scarves. Knitting him a Dad’s Sweater would actually be the way to go for me, if I’ll ever be bothered to knit him a garment 😂

    Always such a joy to watch your podcast😁 Love your enthusiasm🥰 Your Dad's sweater looks so good!! The color👌
    I knit some christmas gifts. But I don't put pressure on my self. I only knit gifts if I want to. I knit mostly socks (Dk weight, so it goes fast😉) and hats. But my husband and oldest son wants sweaters so they will get that❤️ Wishing you a great weekend☕️🧶

      DK weight socks are such a smart idea and so lovely to wear. 👏 Sweaters for husband and son sound less appealing to me, so I’m proud of you!

      Haha I now know what’s up with your cardigan and knitting full fisherman’s rib is not technically doing it wrong, but it’s doing it slower for sure 😅
      My jeans are a couple of years old and from a brand called Tezenis (I found them here in Italy, not sure if this is a brand you can find somewhere else too).

    Hi Francesca, it's a really inspiring video! Love the colors of your dad's sweater and Monday sweater. I was also struggled to decide interesting and easy Christmas gifts this year. Then I decided to make Sophie scarf for the ladies in the family, and beanie for Papa, which are all quick knits as simple and light objects. I chose the beanie pattern "ribbed hat recipe" by Norman, he also made RUclips video for it. See you in your next podcast!❤

    I personally feel really stressed about Christmas knitting... I feel like everybody expects me to kit them something. They don't realise how much time and money goes into them. I would love to gift my loved ones an friends something knitted but I don't want to be so stressed. Dezember is stressful enough. I considering to knit my brother a dads sweater 😉 Have a nice beginning of December ❤

    • @AnItalianKnitter
      @AnItalianKnitter  2 года назад

      It’s not fun to explain that our time is not free and that even for a hat it still takes a good few hours… but it has to be explained so that we’re not stuck knitting stuff we actually don’t want to knit 😅 I hope your December will be as relaxing as it can be, Marla.
