You guys have been digging the 1950 vibes as of late. So I decided to edit this explore from a year or so ago. Hopefully you enjoy this old school diner that looks like it's right out the apocalypse. Whats your favorite food to order at a diner ?
This may sound odd, but one of my favorite things about your videos, is when you film and it's silent, you can hear static wind or cars passing by from outside. Idk why, but I love that.
Exactly what I was thinking. It's about the exploration itself and the atmosphere not the staged drama. It is about life's fading in time. Time proving it's point by being irrelevant. What has to happen will happen no matter what. It is just wonderful.
Me to I won't watch a video that has music in the background unless the videos really, really good.I hate the music going.. And I love music.but there's a time and place for it.and during a video is totally the WRONG PLACE.
I have been following your channel for the past year or so and love all your videos. Me and my girlfriend were watching this episode the other night and we’re both amazed to see a place that is only 5 minutes from us and we pass it on a regular basis!! Keep killing it man
For what it's worth, the diner may be from the 1940's, actually. Check out Rosie's Diner in Rockford, MI (originally located in New Jersey before being shipped to Michigan), it was opened in the 40's and has the exact same backsplash along the kitchen. Closed in 2011 so in far better shape than this one. Looking at photos of other legit 1940's diners, many of them have the same backsplash design as well... though it's possible that the panels were a standard remodel across numerous diners sometime in the 50's, I'm willing to bet that this diner here was built in the 40's.
It was ran poorly towards the end. It got dirty and bugs filled the place. They were also short staffed alot of the time, making one person often work from around four am when the food got there until closing and cleaning that night.
I’m guessing this one closed in the first half of the 2000s, 2000-2005 probably. Judging by the water damage and decay, it’s definitely been closed a long time, but curly light bulbs didn’t come out until 1995. October 2, 2021 5:11 am
Beautiful find, what a fab place, wow I think you are right about how it was abandoned, a fire started and they all went to their safety points outside and that was it, no one worked or ate there again, such a shame, lovely place in it's day. Thank you for sharing (UK)
Surely being a diner there would be old packaged food products or cans in the cupboards somewhere? Those would have an expiry date, which would indicate the rough time it was abandoned.
Jeez, the whole look of this abandoned diner made a shiver go up my spine. I've never had this feeling of an apocalypse while watching any other videos. Feels weird. It looks like everyone got up and left. Very strange.
@@matthewbennett9928 It really is. Even though some time has passed since watching this show, it is still bothersome. We had a place exactly like this one just a few miles from our house. We went there often for lunch, and it was usually busy. Then one day out of the blue, we walked up to the front door and it was locked. No sign about being closed. Look completely normal and clean inside. It is still on the corner, untouched, and never reopened. That was about eight to eleven years ago. It's so sad anytime we drive past the place. Just like the diner in this show.
I just talked to a friend who deals with movie props and he said its very common for them to leave something like this behind. Not saying this was just a prop, but a lot of things like this are slapped together then left behind. Unless you find a name and info on it there is a chance its just a prop. Even the large RV for Jurassic park were left to rot until somebody found and restored it.
The certificate from the local health department on the wall behind the counter likely had the date issued and/or the date it would expire. This could be used to roughly date the time of abandonment. It’s interesting to see the unfinished bowl of chili that was likely left by a customer fleeing the fire that caused this place to become abandoned. As to the question of what type of diner food is my favorite, diner breakfast food is the best. I also like diner hamburgers, chili, milkshakes, and ice cream.
Ur videos are always amazing. U guys find the best places. I love how u appreciate the craftsmanship of things and the older vibe stuff.I'm totally with you on that. Keep up the great work!!
It did not burn down. From my experience I do not see fire damage there's no soot or blackness on anything. Trust me on this. Things aren't so just because someone says.
Wow - just found your channel today. I love the vibes you guys have and the haunting music is beautiful. Lingering the visuals for us on the items and architectures is wonderful. We'll be back. Stay safe.
I was shocked to see that teddy bear framed print at 2:00. I have that picture and a matching one, they were given to me when I was a baby in the late '80s. I've been trying to figure out who the artist was, it's signed "B. Sienkiewicz." My guess is that it's Bill Sienkiewicz, a comic book artist who's worked for Marvel and DC, but I haven't been able to confirm it or learn anything about the picture. So weird seeing it an an abandoned place video.
The paper menu gives a window on when it closed up. It has a “low calorie corner” spot on the menu and a side order of fries is $2.99. My guess is late 90’s, early 2000’s
Yes we do, but not Dinners like that we had Cafes, American Dinners are so much better, ours were similar in some ways, but they were as many as you have in the states, in fact I believe you still have such Dinners, there amazing.
@@videomentaryproductionschannel Diners are becoming fewer and fewer in the United States expressit States especially with the pandemic and fast food just taking over everything. I live in Indianapolis Indiana and we have a local place called Steer In and yeah it's absolutely wonderful and you just get that old school vibe it's been there since 1962.
It looks like everyone up and left cuz they did! The owners kinda left management to run it, they then left their employees to run it. People stopped getting paid. All went on strike, walked out one day and never looked back. It’s unfortunate, cuz its such a cool place. An era forgotten.
Definitely looks like fire damage. If that’s the case, I’d venture the insurance adjusters came in and wrote the place off as a complete loss. The owners would’ve been compensated for the value of everything in it, so there’d be no reason to come back and try to salvage anything.
omg seriously. only if you touch it or loose particles in the air. so what we start taring down buildings now lmaoo. the house i lived in before this was built 1946, and hey im fine lol
It's sad to see a restaurant go out of business, back around some 20 years ago people were nostalgic for 1950s style things, hence the dinner, but now they all want things from the 80s and 90s...
Exactly there is no fire damage or soot even if there's just a little fire there's always blackness and the ceiling would have been completely blackened.
This is the old Cookstown Diner, Cookstown, New Jersey. I paid the place a visit on 11/24/24 and it has significantly deteriorated further. It looks like a lot of "souvenirs" had been taken. A lot of the items seen in the video an no longer there. 10:21
