  • The restoration of a lifetime! The incredible story of how Barrett-Jackson CEO and Chairman ‪@CraigJacksonCollection‬ and an elite team of automotive restoration specialists set out to restore the rarest and most desirable Shelby Mustang of all time, the 1968 EXP 500 Green Hornet. The Green Hornet's provenance of being a double prototype puts it into a unique category and represents a rolling history of what was happening within Ford and Shelby American in the heyday of the American muscle car era. The performance DNA of all modern Mustangs and Shelbys leads back to this very car, making this 1968 Ford Mustang Notchback Coupe - as Carroll Shelby once said - "the one and only Green Hornet."
    Special thanks to ‪@ford‬ archives and ‪@ShelbyAmericanInc‬.

    I only wish my good friend, Mr. John Chun, Shelby's original designer from the 60's could have seen this before he passed on July 6, 2013.
    He told a lot of stories about the things he'd worked on with this car, being both a mechanical, and design engineer - then going to Chrysler to design the Daytona Charger and Superbird mods, after Shelby told Ford to get lost in 1969!!

    Ive been in love with this car since i read about it in a Mustang book back in the early 2000s. So glad it has been found and taken back to its original condition. Most important is that it is in the hands of someone that truly appreciates what it is. Im a Chevy guy but nobody can deny the innovation and genius of Shelby and his team of engineers. From the 427 Cobra to the GT40 to the G.T. 350 to the Viper to the Series 1, Shelby always found a way to leave his mark and to leave us in awe. Ford would've been so far ahead of the curve if they had mass produced these back in 68. Crazy how it's taken over 50 years for all of this technology to finally come to fruition on a Mustang. Good to see The Green Hornet alive and better than ever!

    This just the kind of thing I love to watch, all of it, the research, the attention to detail, the historic aspect. And of course the man himself doing it for the history but also to DRIVE! Ripping it up, why do it at all if you're not going to treat it like the car it was designed to be. And that color, man, I do love green and that is one cool green. Actually I'm a NY Jets fan and their new green helmets are almost the exact same color, it's that same unique shade of green, or very close. What a great documentary, I'm so happy to have seen this. Cheers to all those brilliant guys that did all those things, it's like a dream team of talent. Well done.

      The fastbacks just look so much better.

    • @FunkyGOB
      @FunkyGOB 3 года назад

      The fastbacks were the cars everybody wanted but the coupes were the most affordable thus they were the major bulk of Mustang sales. If it hadn't been for the coupes, the Mustang would've been scratched shortly after its debut. Even the 1st gen Camaro was made as a xerox copy of the notchback coupe because it was the hot selling model. Of course now the fastbacks are deemed more valuable because there are tons of coupes out there yet fewer drop tops and fastbacks hence making them harder to find. The opposite is applied to the fox body models though. You can pick up a halfway decent hatchback/fastback GT for about half of what you'll pay for the notchback LX. Supply and demand.

I had a one off different color metallic green (not factory) made on my 69 Chevelle SS when I had it repainted and it reminds me of this....but I have to honestly say this is way better ! I wish I would have kept that car...but of course things to come and go...and I also went the route of Mustangs.... because I always loved them also just a little bit more ! 😊

    Watching the discovery and the release of Little Red was awesome. But this. This was awesome. Paying the buyers premium feels better now knowing this is what you do with your profits, bringing back history !

    What a fabulous achievement. Carol left us with a lot of history.
    I pray we ferret out as much of his heritage as possible.

    Another incredible story of saving a fabled creature! Craig Jackson, you are in my top 25 people I would love to meet and talk cars with.
    I do have one question, hopefully someone from the Barrett-Jackson could answer; the Candy Apple Red, 1966, over Craig’s right shoulder, is that 6S2377? Thank you.
