Looks like the change in orientation of the internal zips would allow you to access the pockets by slipping a hand into the bag, instead of having to fully open the whole clamshell. This would be preferable if wanting to grab a jumper from your bag in the airport or when it is under your seat.
I have the new one and that water bottle holder is surprisingly stretchy and comfortably takes a large water bottle.

This is the EXACT review I needed! I have the old version in 28 and 35 and I love them. I would like the water bottle pocket but it’s not a deal breaker and the other changes I could care less about. I think I’m gonna be good with my old versions. Oh, I have the 20l but haven’t used it yet!

@@maylingm02 Honestly personally I wouldn't upgrade just for the water bottle holder, it's a lot of money! But it is ultimately a personal decision

I was thinking of changing to the new version because I really wanted the water bottle and smaller zip pocket but after hearing you speak about the quality difference...I may just keep my OG bag.
