That second phase is easily one of the best produced tracks they have ever done
This track almost replaces my original Fromsoft fave, Ludwig’s theme from Bloodborne. The only reason it doesn’t is because I heard Ludwig’s first and the cutscene made it so memorable.
That second phase was ligit a godsend

@@soulbrant10010 yuka didnt write this track, shoi miyazawa did. he's responsible for at least 70% of elden ring's best tracks: godrick, starscourge radahn, mohg, dancing lion, midra, just to name a few. yuka did some amazing work on this game, especially ancestor spirit and malenia, but the other amazing composers on this game deserve to have their names be just as well-known as her's.
I cry even time that second phase comes because I know I'll be getting my ass wiped again and again and again and again and.......
I know others are joking about the OST giving them ptsd but 15:55 and onwards genuinely feels like im fighting for my real flesh and blood life every time I listen to it😭

Final boss theme of the DLC and it's so good that they heavily used it in the big cinematic trailer for it too. I was already in love with it then. Also since you never plan on playing these games have you allowed yourself to be spoiled and seen what any of the boss fights look like? Or even have you ever watched any of the cinematic trailers?
I am sure I have seen some stuff but it doesn't really register. I know we have seen some videos in my Twitch streams.

@@DrumRollTonyReacts My dad is a choir director and tells a story of many years ago when, during a combined choir/symphony performance, the percussionist playing the tubular bells went to do a run and the entire rack just collapsed and scattered the pipes everywhere. And of course it was during the concert, not rehearsal or anything!
I love how the Shadow of the Erdtree OST gives huge callbacks to the base game themes.
When you recognize them you actually get chills.

I stopped counting after 100, and probably came close to 200. After I decided to cheese him with the Golem Smith summon, it was only a matter of time.
4:47 that's one of the characters' Leitmotif, it plays again later in the first half of the song. which by the way, is also a rearrangement of the same character's theme that played in a different context. this song is absolutely incredible much like the rest of the OST!

Promised Consort is absolutely my favorite Soulsborne track of all time. Honestly maybe even favorite music per se in videogames.

I love it when you 'nerd out' and point out small details you don't think matter, I'm not a music nerd and I don't have a great ear but every time you point out something small and cool I notice it too and it makes me appreciate the music even more
A great piece that starts off quiet, a reveal, then dignified, powerful. Transition into a heavenly choir, a child's voice, then divine.
One of the best experiences I've had in this game is finally getting good at this fight and starting to hear all of the second phase's OST instead of just the first seconds.
The first part of this song is basically a shortened version of another song, which i HIGHLY recommend also listening to. Its called Starscourge Radahn, and its much more personal with the character to me. Even if you have heard a shortened version now, believe me, you have NOT heard THAT song yet.
Might just be my favorite of em all, and man I LOVE all the "nerdy" detail, hearing about it and then listening to hear those subtle things that I wouldn't hear while this boss in particular is giving me a rectal exam

The complete pull back and fade at the end, leaving everything hanging, I think is because that's when we defeat the boss. Part 1 of the piece is basically facing the greatest fighter in the world, who has been resurrected in his prime, and he is incredibly mighty while still maintaining restraint and control. Then in Part 2, we've dealt a good amount of damage to him and he's about to become enraged and really cut loose, but then... a literal god descends from heaven. And not just any god, but a brand new god who wants to usher in an age of kindness (whether people like it or not, which is why there's still a little bit of a threatening undertone to the piece). The god embraces the warrior and calms him, and then for the entirety of Part 2 of the piece, he's riding on the warrior's back, still embracing him, and the music is full of hope, of anticipation, of baited breath and exultation because this is it, this is the new god we've awaited, this is the one who will take all the pain, suffering and brokenness of the world and make it okay, this literal child who has become a god is going to, in his innocence, bring succor to the world, and right at the end when it's time for him to spread his wings and go out into the world to enact his will...
We kill him.

The Promised Concert theme is just beyond this world. It actually gives a feel like that mere commoner - a mere tarnished is up against The Divine and that there is no turning back, and that this battle will be recorded in anals of time. 📖

After Midra this was my favorite boss track in the DLC. But Midra is another Ludwig, The Holy Blade to me. It's awesome.

Of course the most played part is the church bells tolling, gives me chills every time.
That dialogue between the strings and brass in the intro is the direct meeting of the leitmotifs of two different characters who are lore represented by the boss. The brass represents Radahn which the entire rest of the first half of the song is a redux of his theme. The strings are referencing the beginning of the theme to Mohg, a base game boss whose body is being inhabited and controlled by Radahn, which is why Mohg's motif is pushed out of the dialogue and completely overtaken by Radahn's theme.
You highlighted how high the sopranos sing in the second part but the tenors also go all out in the first half. Like, they are UP there!
Also, pleeeease Lord of Frenzied Flame next?`It's a super unique theme!

The first phase represents the resurrection of the greatest warrior to ever live, and the second phase represents the ascension of the god who he is consort to. The odd resolution at the end is because you're cutting short this god's reign just after his ascension, as although he has noble intentions, he would aim to bring about eternal peace by taking away free will from everyone in the land.
18:00 is getting everything in a piece of music even possible? ,getting the perspective of someone who has trained his ear and got exposed to far more music than me and with this passion and great articulation is good enough for me man😂👏👍

Indeed! It makes me become aware of how story informs the composer. Miquella (on whom this part focuses), also known as "Kindly" or "Gentle" or "The Kind" is forever trapped in an androgynous boy's body, and he promises "a gentler world" for everyone. It's ostensibly angelic!
this is such a hard and loud music that it's beautiful and fitting of who we are fighting against

in the second half of the track, the main antagonist Miquella enters the fight. Miquella is a demigod that is cursed with what seems to be eternal youth. his goal is to become a god and take over the world with "compassion", basically he has the ability to persuade anyone to his side - and hence forcefully remove their will and replace it with his own. he "shrives clean the hearts of men".
the music really highlights his nature as well as the emotions he feels while fighting you. that big key change in the middle of the second phase certainly shows Miquella's frustation against the player, as you seem to neither surrender to his charm nor fall to his attacks.
about the final chord which Tony noted has an odd resolution, there is a lore theory about Miquella that is in line with this chord (yes Fromsoftware games include lore even in their fucking music). the theory goes that Miquella's curse is not of eternal youth, but rather eternal nascency - as in, nothing he starts ever goes to completion, despite his incredible power, being the strongest demigod. he was never able to fully cure Malenia, his Haligtree never grew to its full potential, and his plan of becoming a god was stopped by you, the player, despite him sacrificng literally EVERYTHING for it.
Interesting ideas about the curse of eternal nascence. Hadn't heard that before. As much as many players dislike Miquellas story, I find it fascinating and one of the most vital to understanding the game as a whole. Lots to decipher and lots to learn. It's actually a masterful and thought provoking story. In my opinion. I love how well the music represents his journey. It is a necessity to understand him.
Now you gotta do Midra Lord of Frenzied Flame, and Bayle the Dread! This DLC has nothing but bangers

Questioning in my head who it was when he popped up and then hearing the drop and seeing him fully revealed was an insane moment

They really nailed the “going to war with something bigger than what we know” vibe. That intro perfectly describes how Melania must have felt when attaching her prosthetic arm before fighting him. It’s so simple yet so subtle and powerful

You should listen to the Slave Knight Gael theme from Dark Souls 3, which is nearly the same franchise. It is one the best bosses of all time (THE best imo) and his three movements soundtrack plays a tremendous role in it.

Something cool about this song is that its kind of a remix of the theme from the first time you fight this guy. It has some of the same choir melodies that are in the first half of this, but in that one they make it sound more honourable and war like (since you are fighting him when hes still alive), whereas in this one it sounds a lot more godly (idk how they achieve that effect lol).

It's also wild that the music is not just an epic musical bg ost.
Part1 and Part2 telling 2 different story and characters.

It's the perfect OST to close the chapter on FromSoft's magnum opus. I know we said they'd never top DS3 when it came out, and then Elden Ring came and proved us wrong. But IF they manage to top Elden Ring in their next Souls release, I'll die on the hill that this is the greatest gaming studio of all time.
