Heaven or Hell!
Let’s rock!
Unless this isnt radahn's ost but the player. In a way you could be portrayed as the "agent of hell" since youre trying to stop miquella from bringing about his own order in which everything is supposedly good. At the end of the day, youre marika's elden lord, and miquella trying to become a god with radahn at his side as lord makes them your opposition.
Oh boy, this is the one I’ve been waiting for. I’ve been literally blasting this in my car everyday while on the highway, even if it’s just for groceries. It’s all there, The heavy drums, The resounding use of church bells in the rhythm, the strong masculine to treble clef choirs. How game studios have the most epic orchestras amazes me, play this to an audience in the 18th century and they’d think the very gates of heaven had opened.
Had the best workout of my life a few days ago, blasting phase 1 on repeat at full volume. So good.
How do you sleep? I had the second phase on repeat in my head a few weeks ago and couldnt fall asleep for hours. I have to stay away from songs this powerful in the evening I guess
after beating radahn ive been listening to this everyday truely a masterpiece of an OST
@TheFrostbird believe me, I get goosebumps everytime second phase kicks in. Truly spectacular ost, amazed they didn't add actual Latin lyrics to this Orchestra, or any of the others for that matter.
Glad I’m not the only one blasting this on full volume on the road
The second phase of the song gives me a feeling where Miquella begins by kindly asking us to surrender and kneel to his age of compassion. As the song progresses, this request turns into a order, and I can feel the weight of his followers and his divinity falling on my shoulders, an absolute fight against a GOD. It's an incredible song and my personal favorite.
Good for you tbh. For me the final boss was highly disappointing. Everything before the dlc pointed to godwyn but suddenly as we progress the dlc it seems like Radahn comes out of nowhere, and then they put him as the final boss. Camera going to shit because he is too fucking tall, overtuned damage with unending combos and bloated health pool, the boss generally feels like some fanmade rehashed version out of a mod.
Cutscenes are kind of cool tbh but i didn't feel no hype about fighting him because it just felt so fake, and badly designed. The ost in first phase just didn't strike me at all because it's simply radahn all over again, this just feels like forced fanservice.
Radagon to me is still the perfect fight in therms of making you feel like you're fighting a holy god, whole dlc was good but the final boss just let me down a LOT
@@kixakii436Godwyn being in the DLC makes no sense, his story is done and told in the base game

“it’s like seeing a bright light of god” yeah… like 6000 of then
One of miquellas lines when grabbing the player is, "I promise a thousand year voyage guided by compassion." Really nails the theme home and what miquella truly wants.
It almost feels bad to oppose him, what we are replacing him with will likely be much more flawed and bloody.
@@keithfilibeck2390He sent his beloved sister to sacrifice herself just to get his favorite consort against his will. Miquella is pure evil
@@mike20170 Miquella is most definitely not pure evil, but he is driven by this child-like ambition, and children can be quite cruel at times when they don't know any better.
if you think miquella is good, then you missed the point, forcing ppl to love you and do your command isnt love, the guy literally mind controls everyone to do his biding, including demigods, he thinks he is good but he is naive because of his curse and nature, thinking he can go against the greater will using a puppet which is a corpse with the soul of his brother inside
he then proceeds to kill you. Kinda sums Miquella up, he forgoes his love and compassion and expects to bring about a just world. Aint gonna happen.

The sheer triumphant celebration for Radahn's return of the first phase followed by the pure, divine chorus accompanying his duo with Miquella... Man, experiencing that was magical like nothing else FromSoftware has ever done, and that's saying a lot. Shoi Miyazawa is their new golden boy. What a brilliant composer. Starscourge Radahn was already one of my favorites, but this blows it away!
Shoi is a gem. Pretty sure Elden Ring was his first job as a major composer in the company. He ended up also being enlisted for Armoured Core 6.
They struck gold with Miyazawa, especially with his Elden Ring joints. Midra, Radahn (+ Consort), Godrick, Mohg, Divine Beast, Maliketh, etc.

How do you dodge the 2nd phase light clones attack
@@Noizzedeither equip an upgraded Greatshield and guard or roll dodge towards the boss.
@@Noizzed It is extremely hard to dodge all the light clones, but you can roll into them to dodge them. It is more important to remember that the light clones do not do as much damage as the "real" boss. So if you get hit by one of the clones, don't panic. Just keep focusing on what comes next. His last hit (when he isn't a clone) always hits hardest.
I've uploaded my final, succesful attempt on my channel. You can see how I tried to dodge this attack there. It is a very flawed attempt, but I ended up beating him anyway. I think this is the most important thing to remember, to just stay calm when you get hit and keep your focus. If you take damage, don't think about it too much.
How can someone dodge the meteorite attack at second phase?

All that build up and the following drop is so lush
Crazy how spot-on you were with the phase transition. At the end of phase 1, during the cutscene, Radahn nearly loses himself to his fury. Instead, Miquella emerges and calms him, acting as that “bright light of God” in both meaning and appearance. It completely encapsulates that “Radahn is back” message, as he maintains himself as a warrior, and not a beast as we met him in the base game. Not to mention that “bright light” is a double meaning, as the first attack in phase 2 is an absurdly huge beam of light, and each subsequent attack has follow-ups of multiple smaller beams
I actually kind of interpret it as Radahn about to enter a pure warrior’s frenzy, much like Godfrey regressing into Hoarah Loux, but Miquella steps in, using his power to control hearts in much the same way as Serosh limited Godfrey’s rage.
To me, it seems more like Radahn is being controlled like a puppet by Miquella, more than Miquella letting Radahn actually fight as he wishes to.
In that way, I’m not even really sure if it can be said that Radahn is back. His soul is back in a new body, certainly, but Radahn might not necessarily be the one behind the wheel…
miquella rlly stopped us from fighting a angrier radahn
@@lemonnomel7505jetzt imagine fighting a radahn that can finally go full godfrey on someone, the gravity magic he'd pull off would be absolutely insane.

~Average consort fight
The horns you hear early in phase two are foreshadowed. There is an enemy in the capital city who uses those, then again later called the Oracle Envoy.
Also, horns intruding on Radahn's theme may have an extra layer of symbolism when you consider that Radahn's new body is made from Mohg, who Miquella used in large part because his horned omen body grants him a sort of purity. This may be a reach, but horns=horns amirite?
The item description for the trumpet/horn weapons that the envoys hold say that they are sounded to herald the arrival of a new god, or something along those lines, so it's even more fitting.
@@thehudsonforge71 Yeah I was keeping vague in case Marco wished to experience it all but I adore how From tells its stories. There's incredible work going into it all
Mohg may have been used because the omen horns ARE those of the hornsent, which hold connections to the divine gate and enir ilim
Spoiler warning
So, to put into context for the angelic part, the god miquella descended down from his godly throne to empower his consort. That is why the music shifts from a mighty warrior to a heavenly tone, because you go from fighting this great and mighty soldier, to being in the presence of a god.
Also, Radahn was looking at us real foul right before Miquella did that, like he was about to give in to his Godfrey-esque urges of war. Miquella instead calmed him and joined him, reminding him of their purpose, and aiding him personally to make up for the fact that he shouldn't turn into a bloodlusted animal just to fight better. That's why Radahn's tint goes from glowing red to gold. Gold like Marika's minor erdtree. ''Only the kindness of gold, without Order.''
The main thing about this whole track that gets me is the absolute *warmth* of it. It feels like standing in the sunlight after the rain. Combined with the game and scenery it all feels like "The hero has arrived! ...but it isn't you!". In a game where every fight is basically for your life, the environment is dark and dreary, they managed to make this fight in particular feel like you're standing in the way of something radiant, heroic and pure. It almost feels like you're the "bad guy" in the equation, and only the second time any game from the non-gameplay elements alone made me want to not go on, and the only time such a feeling was evoked not out of fear of the boss but fear that I'm not doing the right thing anymore. A lot of people say that video games are a unique art form. And oh man, does this ever feel like it.
YES, I have the same feeling. It's like you're fighting something so unimaginably beautiful and rightful. I feel like I should loose, it just would be the right thing to do.
Beating Radahn felt like being a C-list villain beating a hero immediately after they’ve had an anime powerup, while their theme song is blaring and they’re having flashbacks of their friends.
@@WunjoYT Exactly! I'd never felt such a thing in a game before. Major props and respect to everyone involved.

You really nailed it with your descriptions of the difference in the choirs. With this piece, we're being told that THIS is Radahn. This is the legendary warrior we were never able to fight, rather than the walking shell of him. We're being told that he has returned to his strongest point, and that we are witnessing true strength, and this piece delivers that message absolutely flawlessly. The shear magnitude and spectacle that I felt seeing Radahn, revived, and healthy, I may not ever feel anything like it in another game.
Around the 30 second mark when the choir actually starts is my favorite part. It has this sense of finality and intimidation that prime Radahn is the pinnacle of might in the lands between
I don't think it's Radahn in his prime. The game calls him young. Also, he's smaller than we see him in his fight with Maleina.

The insane part about this OSTs is that when playing you can't pay attention to the music because you're fighting for your life. They truly add to the feeling for sure, and if the OST is sad it makes the whole thing feel one way and if it sounds epic it makes the feeling different. But you can't truly grasp what's going on until you listen to it separately or watch a video of someone during that fight.
The fact that you literally got right a “vision of an angel”. It’s just it’s not the player, it’s the boss himself, being powered by Miquella before he just wails on you with a bunch of clones and afterimages and beams of light as the sky darkens and the only light is Miquella and the holy magic he casts. This fight is a reference to Lothric and Lorian from DS3
Is it though? Other than visual similarity. I don't think there are many similarities between them. In terms of mechanics. It is probably more similar to gael fight.

Had this stuck in my head since finishing the game, probably because I heard it like 100 times in a few hours. The boss themes in this DLC are just so insane, they outdid themselves.
You opened my eyes to the full appreciation of this music... my heart shrunk when you at @7:25 hear and then identify the piece section as "a pray"... that blew me away. Then seeing the fight footage it kinda almost look like fighting the celestial heavens. Thank you Marco!
Been waiting for this one, loved your analysis!
Another fun fact is in the "prayer" part as you called it, since fromsoft use broken latin often to more or less respect the lore without infusing something from the real world, you can hear around 7:29 basically "aveee marika aetrena" which could translate to "Ave Marika Aeterna" or Ave Marika the Eternal.
Unfortunately it's confirmed to be pure gibberish, because Miyazaki explicitly prefers that.
@@Count.Saruman It's not exactly pure gibberish, it's been reported it is intended to sound like latin, from original phrases and variations, but it's broken to respect the fact it's not in our world. The tonal changes of the phrase strongly resemble an Ave Maria already.
Bloodborne is the only soundtrack which uses actual Latin, sadly. I do wish they'd use it more, as a vehicle for communicating obscure lore in the music.
@@aidanfurst8512 Bloodborne doesn't really use Latin. It's broken asf. Furthermore, there's the Song of Lament, and we have zero confirmation about the DLC's tracks so far.
Also, I'm pretty sure that the guy who ''exposed'' the other themes for not having Latin was caught lying with those screenshots of DMs with From employees.
The starscourge ost was my favorite in the base game and one of my favorites in the fromsoft catalogue. By far now my most favorite Fromsoft OST and it’s not even close holy shmuck, it’s like the sound team finally understood the assignment of how to make gamers get immediate chills for a final boss out of sheer epicness unlike the base game
This is so incredible to watch. You listened to the music and almost described what happens during the final battle. Amazing
I'm so happy to see you get happy and excited over this music. I play the game and I just look at it as some good music but watching you makes me happy to see game creators take time to create such good aspects of their game from all sides.
This truly is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever created. What a perfect track to cap off the gargantuan finale to Elden Ring.
Even with how frantic and terrifying the fight is with all of Radahn's might bearing down on you so relentlessly... I couldn't help notice the music every time. It's so big and triumphant but there's always this moment when it suddenly sounds tragic and almost mournful! Made me really feel for Radahn.
I really wish you'd look at a video of the fight after you finish your analysis because I'd love to see you react to how right you are all of the time.
First people we are fighting in the game that are arguably as close to a Good force you can oppose.
I think it's mainly, that Miquella would rather not be fighting us, but for whatever reason our player character refused to be embraced, as stated in the Light of Miquella incantation description. I wonder if this touches on the same free will themes that were explored in armored core 6, where too the player is an outside agent that is without any connection to the world and hence uncontrollable and unpredictable.
It’s kind of representative of everything that Miquella lost in order to get here- and the acknowledgement that Miquella is no longer the kind one that he started his journey as.
@@Audio_noodle The entire idea behind Miquella’s new age likely involves the mass use of charms to create a “more compassionate” world. It would not be an age of willing kindness, but an age of kindness due to control.
@@sunlightsage2982 I don't think miquella ever gave away his compassion, only his "love" explicitly, which might refer to him actually falling in love with st trina and abandoning that love to attain godhood

I appreciate that!
I was SO excited when I saw you posted this, I was waiting for you to listen to this, I knew you’d love it! It’s probably my new favorite fromsoft boss ost, it’s INCREDIBLE.
I was really looking forward to your analysis of this composition.
Goodbye Ludwig, make room for the actual best from theme
Ludwig was dethroned a while ago. Maliketh and the OG Radahn theme. Also, Fortissax and Soul of Cinder and Abyss Watchers.
@@TheStraightestWhitest fortisaxx annihilated Ludwig so bad.Actually the best base game theme.Soul of cinder and Radahn was epic and emotional at the same time as well. And the ending version of maliketh phase one is underrated asf.Brought tears to my eyes
@@TheStraightestWhitest elden ring just has the best themes in the series. Though bloodborne reaches that level with some of its themes. The best elden ring themes are better than the best bloodborne themes though
Still think Bloodborne has the best ost
Love your content man! The passion and emotion is exactly what I love!!!!
shoi miyazawa is insanely talented. Every single banger from this game is from him and there's actually a big difference between each and every track. The pure horror of midra, the grotesqueness of godrick, the heroism of radahn and the divine sounds of miquella. Really excited to see where his music career will go in the future
Easily in my top 3 Fromsoft compositions. Especially when Miquella comes in. It's just so profound. Literally witnessing a God before our eyes.
This is my favorite From Software music ever, it is really mind blowing especially while playing the game and seeing through the events of the storyline. I love your videos. ❤🎉
Amazing Video! I especially like it when you yourself sing along with it!
LOVED your commentary, especially the second phase! It’s so crazy how your analysis was so close to what happens during the boss fight. This track, atmosphere, and gameplay mend together into a memorable perfect symphony. FromSoftware and their composers absolutely NAILED the DLC ❤
I know this is unrelated, but there's this amazing anime called Violet Evergarden, and its special episode of the first season was dedicated to theater and specifically opera. They actually made a piece in, afaik, fictional language they made up for the series. Would be cool if you checked that out =) The song itself is called "The Songstress Aria".
This is by far my new favorite track from any video game. This is fucking incredible
I have been waiting, ever since I heard this theme... to see your reaction to this. You did not disappoint at all! Fantastic read on the OST. The joy you had here is catching as I had to smile and laugh with you. Brilliant!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Dude I've been WAITING for you to review this and you did not disappoint. Way to call out the themes just by the music alone, as usual. Loved the breakdown and reaction - thank you!
3:26 Man hearing this part again was awesome! In the Starscourge theme this part felt like the final salute to General Radahn, but during the Consort fight it sounds more powerful.
Not just more powerful, it’s a completely different tone. Starscourge is more of a mourning from his soldiers, this one is more regal and majestic. This is Radahn, the warrior, the lord. Not the broken shell of his former self we fight in the base game.
it's very interesting the specific way your interpretation does get at the meaning of the tonal shift, though almost certainly not in the way you expect.
I won't be specific, but I will say: it certainly is a desperate prayer, shining and beautiful. Almost blindingly so.
Delightful energy and an excellent breakdown! I really like thinking this composition is what the final duo hear in their heads when they're fighting the player; it's for them to win and 'gift us an age of compassion'.
I find it amazing how you were able to telegraph the whole fight from this masterpiece. It’s a special piece of music.
it is crazy how the berserk influence made it to this rendition of radahn, when it became faster in tempo and with focus on choir and marching motion
it became more clear this is inspired by "My Brother" and various berserk soundscapes
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS, I AM HYPED! prob won’t be able to catch it as it goes up but I am excited to see your opinion on it, Elden ring cooked with this one.
I've now watched all of your Elden Ring videos and it's actually scary how close you get to what is going game and lore wise. I'm looking forward to the rest of the DLC, especially Metyr! Great work!
Fantastic video, so glad to have someone like you give your insight and reactions to these OST’s. 👑❤
The second phase of this theme always makes me tear up. That build up especially around the five minute mark when we have that solo voice guide us to this tremendous build up is so good. This is definitely one of their best pieces. Right up there with my three favorites in Bloodborne (Ludwig, Lady Maria and Gherman).
Man this was the first theme song that actually gave me goosebumps mid fight when I heard it. As I was getting my ass beat I couldn’t help but be awestruck.
Been eagerly awaiting this one, particularly after how profound your listen and analysis was for the character's basegame theme -- the "warrior's tragic requiem" movement in it especially
I don't know why we continue to be surprised at how spot-on your interpretations tend to be lol, youve absolutely nailed the lynchpin of it as we've come to anticipate. Really glad you gave this one a listen, mate!
Ive been really waiting for this one! I love you marco and so glad to see how far you and your channel have come!
I do love how you feel that godlike, angelic choir, because it's you literally witnessing the birth of a nascent God, one that promises happiness and love for all, but with a sinister undertone (the slight dissonance), of the tryanny and lack of humanity beneath it all.
Divesting himself of love...
There is no tyranny. And Miquella was never human. His goals are pretty noble. The problem is that he dropped his love in a well to ascend to Godhood. Can't be Miquella The Kind without your Kindness...
@@TheStraightestWhitest yes so without his love and even when he had it he forced others to love him. his power forced others to unite under him. not typical IRL tyranny but, removing choice all the same.
@@TGPDrunknHick It never said he forced his love. Closest we get is this: ''The Empyrean Miquella is loved by many people. Indeed, he has learned very well how to compel such affection.'' From the Bewitching Branch. That still doesn't say it's forced.
@@TheStraightestWhitest he literally does. that's why so many of the NPC's are there. once the enchantment is broken, they all start acting differently.
I haven't fought Radahn yet, I'm on my way to him, but this theme... Such grandeur. I do not know how the fight will go, but it is obvious to me that the first part of the soundtrack is a solemn ode to the greatness of the warrior Radahn, and the second part is dedicated to Miquella and his radiant divinity.
The main voice of the second movement is the voice of Michella himself, hovering over the world of things in his unattainable grace, and the rest of the voices of the choir, in my opinion, sing ovations to him.
So I'm almost sure he will partake in the fight somehow.
This combination of unearthly beauty and tenderness and the mighty power of the valiant warrior creates the image of something undeniably right and strong. I don't even want to win against them. But realizing that this is part of Miquella's insidious appeal makes it even more interesting.
i know nothing of opera except it’s beautiful and you were able to speak each note into realization to where i could understand the meaning behind it really cool watching someone be a master at their craft
:)
I was waiting for this. Watching this reaction was pure joy.
Fought the base game scarlet rot version of the boss and realized the similarity in OST.
I simply love this theme, the first phase is as if we were finally witnessing the form of General Radahn at his peak, and the second phase is simply divine, it's as if we could hear Miquella's voice and understand how he was able to seduce so many people in the between lands, it is gentle and gives the feeling of listening to something superior
I was waiting for your review of this track. The portion starting at 7:25 is perhaps my most favourite video game music ever. Wish the game had a longer version of it. I was so pumped listening to that in the fight.
I love how in all these videos analyzing Elden Ring OSTs, you manage to pick out key elements of the plot and characters without much context. Really cool
can't wait for you to show this piece to the next guest that never heard video game music 🙂
