    Peter, this is simply a huge help to me. I've struggled with numerous ESS connection loss during various jobs and 'am shaking in my boots every time I need to restart the job at a specific line. I usually manage not to foul things up, but I have certainly ruined my fair share. Your explanation on the various stopping methods and starting idiosyncrasies is invaluable to me!!!!!! Thank you a thousand times over. As a new subscriber, I will review all of your videos and I'll bet you solve more of my questions. Thank you again. Finally, not sure why I have so many ESS connection loss incidents, but if I know how to recover, that will give me some level of comfort. Cheers, Dave

      Thanks for the feedback David.
      Really nice to know the videos help others. Not sure why you would get the disconnection issues on ethernet as it is usually very stable. I used to have a lot of issues with usb but since moving to an ethernet motion controller I haven't had a problem.
      Cheers
      Peter

Grazie, grazie. Un caro saluto.
    Peter good evening, this tutorial was, to say the least, fantastic. I had been looking for the possibility of interrupting a process for a long time, especially those that last hours and hours. Finally, I was enlightened by your experience and discovered the hidden method in mach3. Thank you thank you. Best regards.

    thank you so much. I broke many a cutters becuase I didn't understand how it worked. I used the stop function and restarted it but it found where it had to go but I tore thru the wood on its way to the correct starting point. I never thought of using the feedhold. thanks Peter. fontana california

    Hi Peter there is one more way to stop the program file from running at any time and that is to press the escape key, if you are using a parallel port controller and a computer keyboard. The program can be restarted afterwards using the start from here method. I find pressing the escape key is quicker then using a mouse to press feed hold when I want to stop my machine program. Great video thanks.

    I don't know how I missed this one! This is exactly what I wanted to see. What sets this one apart from other's instructions are your helps in understanding why each variety of 'stop' is different, and the consequences. This goes a long way in seeing why Mach3 is the way it is. Now I have to figure out what gives you the background to being such a great teacher. You said you weren't a teacher.....do you manage people in a shop? (I have 18 questions left)

    Good stuff again. What would be the best way to power down the system in the middle of the job, and continue later? Thanks

    • @cncnutz
      @cncnutz  8 лет назад +6

      If you wanted to turn it off I would do a [feedhold] followed by a [stop], note down the line number then a [goto zero] to set the cutter back at the origin. I would then turn it off. I might even drill a small hole with the cutter as a reference point before turning it off just in case all turned to custard.
      When I came back I would power up the machine and make sure the coordinates were still 0,0,0 on the DRO's then do a [Run from Here] making sure I went back a few lines from where I stopped.

    Thank you Peter, it's strange that something so simple can be so complicated. I'm going to have less f'ups from now on. One thing I want to ask tho, when I was watching the video, I asked myself, when is he going to show what the "Set next line" button is for. As I'm writing this I'm thinking, is this a button you can click that performs the same action as pressing enter when typing in the line of code you want to go to?
    Thank you again for this very informative video!

    • @cncnutz
      @cncnutz  8 лет назад +2

      To be honest I didn't even kow that button existed. I don't use that screen set for day to day use and only put it on for the video so people were looking at something familiar. The Set next line is used the same way as the Run from Here except when you press the Cycle Start button it doesn't the preparatory move first. It just executes the next line of Gcode as writen and will destroy anything in its way to do it. It is the same as pressing the cycle start after pressing the stop key. I recommend you ignore it.
      Hope that makes sense.
      Cheers

    Hi Peter,
    Very informative video. I understand you are using a smooth stepper. How have you found it in operation. I have a problem with my current system loosing communication with the PC using the parallel port. The only way to fix it is to restart Mach3. I was thinking of installing a Ethernet Smooth stepper for two reasons, one to hopefully fix the connection problem and two allow me to upgrade to Mach4. What do you think.

      I switched from the parallel port to the ESS about 3 years ago.
      When I used the PP I had to attach an anti static strap to my wrist if I wanted to vacuum while cutting. Sometimes just walking and then touching the CNC Router caused a stoppage.
      After installing the ESS all of my static problems when away.
      I still get an occasional spark but nothing bad happens.

    In my experience pressing Stop or Emergency buttons while machine was moving ALWAYS caused machine to loose position (slightly), because, i assume, there is no allowance for deceleration. I have 350oz steppers and UC-100.

    • @cncnutz
      @cncnutz  7 лет назад

      Hi Alex,
      When I did my testing for this video I found I lost position on the EStop but the stop seemed to be ok. Maybe because I don't use a UC100 but regardless of that I concluded the best option was to use the Feedhold first and once it had stopped, use the stop button. That way you will never loose steps. Of course with an Estop all bets are off but lost steps are the last of your worries if you have to use the Estop.
      Cheers

    If power failure occurred, then spindle will stop immediately but PC(UPS SOPPORTED) will send command to driver.now in this situation if I sense power failure by building hardware then it will change the state of E-stop .do u have any idea for power failure problem.

    • @cncnutz
      @cncnutz  6 лет назад

      Sensing power failure is easy. Just power a relay from the mains and if it fails the relay will drop back and trigger the estop or you could send it to another input on the control software to perform a machine stop of some sort. Estop will probably loose you position if you have a motion controller. If your ups was big enough you could feed the spindle and steppers off the ups. You might then be able to immediately feedhold then turn off the spindle on loss of power. When the power returns you could manually turn the spindle on and remove feedhold.
      Just one question. How many power cuts have you had while machining? I haven't had any personally but it is an interesting idea.
      Cheers
