You really challenged yourself with that fabric. That was a great job. That color looks great on you.

I enjoy watching this video. I am currently taking notes on sewing. I appreciate the notes you've added to the video( vocally and via text). I still need to learn the vocabulary of sewing, too. Thanks for this video.

What a learning experience! That shirt would look lovely in a fine cotton lawn or voile, now that you've got the pattern down.

Love your transparency. May not have been the best experience but the silver lining in it all is checking a make off your list. Also a new skill-buttons. Now that you’ve ripped the bandaid off you can move forward knowing buttons aren’t too bad.
I think the top looks good but I know what you mean❤

Cee, you went for it girl! I love to see your dedication and commitment even through the difficulties. Marie Forleo once wrote "Mind the gap between your ambition and your ability". You'll learn to execute well and minimize that gap as you continue to try new things. Also, how you harmonize all the different roles and goals in your life is very inspiring. Thank you for taking us with you on this journey!

I would love that blouse for a lounge top for home. For me, I would make 3/4 length sleeve without the cuff. It is so nice Cee just the way you have it. I just cook so much that the ostrich feathers would end up in my soups :). Don't throw it away. Just make it user friendly for you. Again, really nice fabric and appreciate you sharing your fabric glue experience. I have never used fabric glue and so glad you let folks know it stains fabric. Your experiences are valuable to others, keep up the great videos.

I agree with you - I have been sewing dresses, blouses and other items for years. This is not an easy sew. The second time will be easier, but I wont be making it again. I have other patterns for shirts and blouses I much prefer, which I found much simpler and straightforward. You did well. Xx

Just a tip… clip the neck seam and really pull your collar to fit. I agree a collar is not considered an easy skill.
    Keep going girl!
To me a woven cotton is the easiest material to work with, so maybe make it in a woven cotton.
I love your energy and how you reflect on your experience. 😊

This is cute! You could sew the fringe to the underside of the collar to avoid the pink ribbon.

That’s a great suggestion! I could’ve gone under the collar instead of on top! Thank you! I’ll consider that if I decide to rip Heather apart and redo the collar and cuffs.

Most challenging fabric. But you gave it a good try. If you want to try another woven shirt, try a crisp cotton to practice the techniques. Much easier fabric. I applaud you sharing with honesty.

Loved your video. I hate buttonholes! I’ve tried adding some non-fusible stabilizer behind the buttonhole; it is supposed to help the feed dogs move along as the machine stitches the buttonhole. (Less opportunity for the “bird’s nest” effect!). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. . .but I try! Keep sewing and making videos!

Yay! You did it! Thank you for sharing your experience. I spent a lot of time with a seam ripper today so I can definitely relate. Cuffs, collar, pockets, sleeves, and buttonholes don’t constitute an “easy” pattern imo. Using poly satin as your first venture into wovens was a bold move. It’s so slippery and snags and stains just looking at it. And btw, how you can do all that work with 3 kids is impressive. But you followed through until the end and learned along the way. Well done!

I feel your frustration. I’ve been working on mine for a few months. Had same issues. Same type fabric and almost same color. Mine is A coppery butterscotch color, two remnants from Joann. I’ve sewn the collar 3 times, the cuffs twice with one backward! My buttonhole at the top I tried to pick twice. First it off center then it sewed backwards!! All I have left is the hem. Good practice piece. May or may not wear it! Yours looks good!! 😊

    • @weceestyle
      @weceestyle  7 месяцев назад +1

That’s exactly what it is- a great practice piece. I’m sorry to read you experienced the same issues as me, but I’m relieved that someone understands how frustrating it can be. I hope you’re able to finish yours and wear it, even if it’s only once ❤️

Cee you can Beyonce "24" this shirt out! Add bling on that pink area of the fringe around the cuffs and add it to the collar and maybe the button placket as well. (Make it add-on pieces that you snap on and off when wanted.) The fabric you used is mostly used for lining. A serger is not necessary because there are other seam finishing options that could be used. Yes it time consuming but can help your garments last longer.
I actually love this video and videos like this. You are being honest about your frustrations and time frame while showing all the mishaps and options to possibly correct them. There are people with huge channels that I use to follow until I realized they can't sew a lick. They recommend patterns and show off finished garments that is always perfectly done but they never ever showed themselves sewing. I started to discredit myself because these people would sew a garment from beginning to end in what they claimed to be a few hours while keeping everything around them neat and tidy. Ive been sewing for over 30 years and in order for the project to look nice, it does take time. I recommend taking as much time as needed to ensure that your items come out well. Unpicking is not a sign of failure but rather a sign that you care about the end result.
Good luck with your future projects and I am now a new subscriber.

I just finished my second one of these tops. The first one I made was the longer one and the one I just finished today is the shorter length, Love this shirt. Love the color fabric you used, it’s beautiful! That type of fabric is sooooo hard to work with cuz it’s so slippery and shows everything, but you did a great job on it! I used a cotton for the first one and a rayon for the second one. 😊

Since you have a lot of knits I'm assuming you use Jersey needles. When you go to a finer fabric it's good to have a small size 10 or 12 needle and microtex needles will puncture the fabric without snagging it. I usually wind two bobbins at the beginning of any project so that if I do run out of Bobbin thread it takes me a minute and a half to switch it over. You can pin fine fabric to tissue paper and sew through it because it will just tear away from the perforations you make with the needle and you can do this under your buttonholes too so that they are not sliding on the surface of the machine. That heavy duty machine is great for repairs and simple things I had one as a backup but it is not the easiest machine to work with. Remember every Master starts as a disaster and the fabric you picked will show every mistake. That's a great blouse to have in your wardrobe so while you still have the pattern in your head it might be a good idea to do it again in that floral crepe. I was really surprised to see the upper collar had a seam in it they usually don't but I don't have that pattern to check.

Couple of tips: get some silk pins to hold slippery fabrics better than clips.
I would use an over lock stitch on my standard machine on this. I do own a server but personal preference, I often just use he overlock.
Don't glue. I do have gluesticks...the kind kindergartners use. I use it as temporary hold and then will machine or hand stitch.
Keep several bobbins of black, white, grey and beige bobbins. For construction they often work in a pinch to start a project without a Joanna run

Sometimes you just gotta laugh. I have projects like this one a lot. It goes from bad to worse in my mind. My frustration builds. It’s a beautiful color fabric, but it is so hard working with slippery fabrics, and if it’s going to stain easily forget it. All in all it’s pretty, and you did a good job, but impractical for every day life. I bet it will go better with a cotton.

Don't beat yourself up. You had some new techniques. Also the fabric was not the easiest. Keep sewing. If you have sewing book, you can use it to practice the things you had trouble with. A sewing book may have better instructions and hints. Do not get discouraged. There is always something new to learn.
