This place scared the hell out of me as a kid, but I've since come to appreciate the old timey campiness of this park. I'm glad you checked out Marvel Cave. I've taken a lantern tour of it before and it is definitely not for the faint of heart. Missouri is the Cave State and this place lives up to its name. Thanks for taking us along.
Free parking is a shorter walk because you can ride the tram! SDC is my happy place. I’m local and there almost weekly!! Thanks for sharing your experience.
I'm glad they redid it the way they did. I had been riding the old one for about 50 years, it was getting a bit creaky. We were there last summer to ride the old version one more time.
We visited SDC/Branson in 2019 and my son was 15 at the time. He and the hubby did the cave tour first thing when we arrived at the park and it was the highlight of his trip. He talked about it for days. Thanks for this video. Your travel content is detailed and informative and even if I’ve visited someplace, I still learn something new. Safe travels!
Mom and I were there in the 80s and saw the Shepherd Of The Hills outdoor play that had Baldeknobbers in it. Also went down the cave there. Very interesting. And were there for a mountain folk celebration. Thanks for bringing back memories❤
Wife and I went to the play for the first time ever last summer despite living within an hour of it, I’d be willing to bet several of the actors from your experience are still there. Three generations of several families work there, and will no doubt have kids who will also work there some day. Really a beautiful thing to have that kind of legacy to a piece of art.
Many, many years ago, SDC, went there quite often. “Fire in the Hole,” was may favorite ride. Loved the part in the ride where the lady says, “Pa, where’s your pants?” Pa responds, “I don’t have ‘em, the Baldknobbers stole ‘em!”
I believe it was “Red Flanders you get back here and put on your pants” then Red Flanders says “But Sadie I ain’t got no pants the darn Baldknobbers stole them” then Sadie says “Stole them? Why in saint hill would they do that” (but the last line might not be as accurate)
My old stomping grounds! I was heart broken about the old fire in the hole last year💔!! Glad to see the new one very glad 😂! The new ride softens my old heart to know it has been changed very little! Good memories ahead for the next 50 or more generations to come ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I would be terrified to be that far underground. It is beautiful though. Silver Dollar City looks like a nice place to go. Thanks for taking us along with you.
I give you credit for doing the cave !!! Biggest fear for me now as an older adult . I did Mammoth Cave as a teenager w my parents and was frightened. Especially when they turned off the lights . But i watched a video about the wrong man who got stuck in Putty Cave and knowing he had passed , they had no choice but to leave him.. I cant think of a more horrific ending and really am terrified of any cave now. Sorry to be debbie downer for those that enjoy cave exploring ..I am never..going in one again . . Thanks for sharing your joy of FIRE IN THE HOLE 🕳 new ride and makes me want to go to Silver Dollar city which got its start at the now Dollywood park. Such fun back then.
This was such a fun video, I'm so happy that you rode the new Fire in the hole!!! I can't wait to get out there and experience it too!!!! Thank you for another fun, fun, video!!!
Thanks for going out of your way to ride Fire in the Hole. I took my 9 year old on the old one last summer knowing it was closing but not knowing yet they were building the new one. He’s really excited to ride it and will love your video.
If you would like some Baldknobber history I would love to share. My family has been highly involved with Shepard Of the hills play for years and my grandpa worked for Silver Dollar City long ago printing souvenir newspapers.
What a cool place loved it all definatly a fun time . Thank you Jacob for taking us there. I felt like I was there so lucky how you travel around and do fun things. I’m so glad there’s somebody like you out there to show us a bigger world.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
✋: Hour-long cave tour 👉: Two-hour-long line for a three minute ride I've actually been thinking about doing a road trip from up here in Canada to down there in Missouri and I may have to add Silver Dollar City to it if I go. It looks charming!
Some friends and I go constantly throughout the year. It quickly became my favorite theme park. Some great rides (my favorite is Outlaw Run) and the Marvel Caves are beautiful (but is kinda scary descending the tower down into it).
Been a season pass holder at SDC the last couple years thanks to some awesome friends. My favorite theme park. Got a sneak peak ride on the new Fire in the Hole opening day... they kept it very loyal to the original and it is a fantastic ride the whole family can enjoy. Hope you had fun!
I really appreciate all that you do especially driving five hours to be able to do this and share it with us. I know that’s a lot of work. What I do for work is a lot of work too, but it’s great to work for oneself. There’s a lot of freedom. You’re definitely an inspiration for me to keep going every day thank you.
I went to Silver Dollar City in 2020. Due to COVID, they weren’t running the cave tours. When I lived in Louisville, KY, I did several of the Mammoth Cave tours, including the Wild Cave tour. 6 hours, walking crawling in hands & knees, and even belly crawls. That was the most intense cave tour I have done. Mammoth Cave has tons of walking tours. Mammoth Cave is the largest cave system in the world.
Enjoyed Silver Dollar City with you. Thanks for the fun in watching on the Fire In The Hole and the mammoth Cave. They really have a great place to visit. 💥GO CARPETBAGGER 💥
You should check out Lost Canyon and Top of the Rock Museum south of Branson a little bit. It’s our favorite “Branson” destination. We love you. Thanks for the fun video.
Wood coasters are (supposed to be) retracked regularly. I think The Incredible Hulk at Islands of Adventure is the only US example that comes close where they closed the ride, but gave it a retrack and overall new theming. So mostly a cosmetic change, but the ride is smoother now since it was basically brand new-that was like 8 years ago now I think. Building the new ride while the original is operating is usually impossible since the ride will remain where it is if you are just going to fully rebuild the ride.
Basically, the original Fire in the Hole show building was in such rough shape that it wasn't worth doing a simple retrack and aesthetic upgrade, so they just built a new ride. From what I hear, Blazing Fury is in better shape so they could do the same upgrades without having to build a completely new show building-so it wouldn't be the same as it was here
I kinda really dig the idea of highly detailed wax figures with other effects more than animatronics. It's got to be easier and cheaper to maintain and beats all screens any day of the week. I'd be perfectly fine if more rides went that way. Especially faster ones
I would love to go on the cave tour but those 100+ stairs are prohibitive because of a less than stable left knee. 😢 That cave was awesome and the waterfall was amazing, especially with the lights 🎆
Glad they didnt completely get rid of FITH , was alot of memories on the old ride, glad they kept it and revamp it. Im about 4 hours away so its a nice weekend get away if you want it to be.. the Aquarium and hollywood car museum is nice..
Many years ago, the ride at Fire in the Hole, got switched my accident to a maintenance track that took the ride cars through a low cut opening, just tall enough for the cars to go through. Well, it didn’t fare well for the riders in the front car when it entered that passageway.
I went to Silver Dollar City in 1979 or 80. I hadn't thought about that ride for a LONG time! It was amazing to me that it was still going and had been rebuilt!
Glad they not overdone it with screens and such but I do find it hilarious they don't let you film yet they give you footage of what you'd have recorded anyway 😂 oh well. Keep up the great work jacob making the world smaller for us in the rest of the world.
I’ll run into you out there one of these days! I was just there 3 weeks ago and I highly recommend the lantern tour now that you’ve done the normal cave tour!
I happen to have a great video idea for while you're here in town! But I don't really want to leave it in the comments (I'll email you)! So glad you got to do Fire in the Hole & the Cave!!! Didn't the front row make the ride even more amazing, since the car's so low?!? It's like there's nothing between you & the track!!!
I am guessing the reason they did it was it was more cost effective to rebuild it completely then to continue to try and maintain the aging old version. Could of also needed to update the safey of it as well. i am glad everything was mostly the same and you enjoyed it.
I would love to see you come to Lake Hickory Haunts in Hickory NC this spooky season. I think you would love it. We have been filming the independent horror film "You're It" there.
Well Jacob I am very pleased to see that they’ve basically kept it the same and kept the same spirit. Hats off to the creative team that worked on it I can imagine it’s not easy to do what they did and to keep it so close to the original. Kudos to them!
Without question, you have the best travel log here on RUclips. Your not so hung up on Disney parks and offer an amazing collection of so many unusual and different kinds of places to see and experience. Thanks so much!
There’s a RUclipsr who used to work on the train there, sometimes as a conductor and sometimes as a train robber, he worked for Disney too as a photographer. His channel is called Sir Willow.
Oh, right on. Thanks. We went to the original SDC when I was a little kid before Dolly got involved and had no idea there were other parks. If I recall, that SDC was starting to look a bit run down, and it was a big deal Dolly having her own namesake theme park.
Great video, Jacob! I've been on quite a few cave tours and Meramec Caverns, outside of St. Louis is the BEST! An episode of Lassie was filmed there, a Tom Sawyer movie, and it was a Jesse James hideout. You have to do it. The grand finale will blow you away!
Liked the mine ride n the train ride better than the new Fire In The Hole, but its hard to tell when they dont let you see it!!! The Marvel Cave Tour was AWESOME!!! I can't believe they charge $100 to get in there!!!! You can add $79 more n go to Disney World!!! Times have ludicrously changed!! You get it for half off with your pass was awesome n that was worth ut!!
You absolutely have to check out the free parking!!! You just have to walk to a trolly station and then they pick you up and take you straight to the gate! The Trollys run up to closing time and will take you right back. We always do the free parking and end up walking less! ❤❤
"Good things come to he who waits" daid by my Mom for years n Carpetbagger today!! "The waiting is the hardest part"! Dang Tom Petty!!! " Waiting with Faith achieves Victory!" Said the Priest in the movie "Sundown"!!!
Good morning Jacob, so happy you went here. planning to go in Sept. U have the best content to help with vacationing. 👍🏼 Found lots of great places to see we didn't even know about cuz of u. Ty
Great video! Love SDC, that place is amazing. It is more than a theme park. I am glad to hear that the new Fire in the Hole is awesome! I loved that ride, and I am hoping one of those days we can make it out there. My bf lives in Springfield, so I go see her and go to sdc. Yes, that cave tour is so pretty glad you did it finally. You should eat at Lamberts the food is soo good and consider this place a "cheat day" because their rolls are hot, fluffy and good come right off the pan and thrown right at ya! There is a fish hatchery you can tour, you could go take a look at Lake Tanycoma it's so clear. Keep up the great work!!!
Not sure how this appeared on my RUclips algorithm lol but I'm glad it did. I have been going to SDC since I was 5 (now 54), however haven't been for several years for personal reasons. Anyway, thank you for this video!!! My most favorite ride was fire in the hole, and have rode it hundreds of times❤
I've been to Branson many times. I've been through Marvel Cave 4 times. Last time I was at Silver Dollar City, was in the mid 70's. I did ride Fire in the Hole. Last time I was at Branson, was in 2010. I havent been back since then. But, I can't wait to go back.
This is so cool. I saw the old shut-down video, and was sad to miss this attraction. The new one looks great, and seems to share the spirit of the old - VERY cool.
I grew up going to SDC every summer and I have very fond memories of Fire in the Hole. It was my first coaster that started a coaster obsession! I'm so glad they've stayed true to the original. Also if you are interested in another cave there is a beautiful one called Blanchard Springs just about 2 and 1/2 hours south of Branson. Thank you for everything you do!
Thank you for this video. Silver Doller city is a huge part of my life growing up going to the ozarks with my folks year after year When I heard they were closing Fire in the Hole I was devastated as well, and to see they basically rebuilt and updated it is awesome. I'll probably never get to see it. But it was great to see you do a vid on it and show that little bit of footage they gave ya so many memories. Thanx again
I am not physically able to do those stairs on Marvel Cave so you did it for me! Thanks Jacob!
My brother-in-law is from Missouri and is a descendant of the Baldknobbers! I’m glad they kept that piece of history in the ride.
I have an ancestor who lived near Diamond MO who was killed by a Bushwhacker way back when. :)
Best cave tour is at Fantastic Caverns in Springfield, Missouri. It's a ride through, so no stairs or slippery paths.
the mutton chops are STRONG in this one. Keep it up Jacob!!
Free parking is a shorter walk because you can ride the tram! SDC is my happy place. I’m local and there almost weekly!! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Welcome to my beautiful state of Missouri ❤❤❤🎉
Mine too!! Love my Missouri home!! Born and raised here!!
I'm glad they redid it the way they did. I had been riding the old one for about 50 years, it was getting a bit creaky. We were there last summer to ride the old version one more time.

@kingsismeatball6070 that's it! It has been many years since I have been to SDC. You nailed it, verbatim. Thanks for the memory.

LOL at the Baldknobbers snow globes. 😅. I loved the ringmaster and the animal kids!
What an awesome day! I'm glad they brought back Fire in the Hole. Looks like you had a great time today and thanks for bringing us along!!❤❤❤

That was fun, thank you Jacob
Fire in the Hole was a favorite growing up 40+ years ago. Glad to see it is still going strong!
THANK YOU SO MUCH JACOB ❤ the cave tour was amazing 👏 would love to visit someday.✌️❤️🙂
All right! Fire in the hole! Love your videos of the ride then and now. You're really building up your collection of pressed pennies!
Thanks for going out of your way to ride Fire in the Hole. I took my 9 year old on the old one last summer knowing it was closing but not knowing yet they were building the new one. He’s really excited to ride it and will love your video.

Great video Jacob looks like a fun place to visit. Take care my friend and safe travels as always.
Now I want to check out Silver Dollar City
That is a great park.😊I always say if there is a long line, come back later and there will be no line.😊

Hi Jacob I am with you.. there are so many ride's that have gone..It would be amazing If the very popular one;s where remade.. XXX
Wonderful video! Thanks Jacob for your commentary during the POV ride.
The free parking is right behind where you parked. If you get there early you can park pretty close.
I used to do wild caving, it is amazing! I enjoy all caves.

Bet someone definitely got fired
FIRE IN THE HOLE 🔥🔥🔥🗣🗣🗣🗣
Thank you for taking us on this cave tour I would never be able to do it by myself with my knees .
Oh my gosh, this was so much fun. Thanks for taking us along. The cave tour was the best part, but the Baldknobber's dark ride was amazing.
I went to Silver Dollar City in 1979 or 80. I hadn't thought about that ride for a LONG time! It was amazing to me that it was still going and had been rebuilt!
You need to come back to Texas and check out natural bridge caverns

I believe Blazing Fury in Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, TN is the twin to the old Fire in the Hole

Great video carpetbagger
I went to Marvel Cave when I was 6 or 7. I am 64 now. I remember it like it was yesterday.
I am guessing the reason they did it was it was more cost effective to rebuild it completely then to continue to try and maintain the aging old version. Could of also needed to update the safey of it as well. i am glad everything was mostly the same and you enjoyed it.
Thank you Jacob for another great video.
Oh my goodness, the way my knees are SCREAMING watching that cave tour!!! 😱😱😱

Hi Jacob.🙋🏽 The weather is beautiful for traveling. I hope you are having fun.‼️👋🏽
I just wanted you to know that you are awesome! 🦅thank you for everything you do!
Interesting connection with Dollywood. Way back in the 70s, Dollywood was called Silver Dollar City.
Actually, they still own 90 percent of the park, and Dolly owns like 10 percent.
Oh, right on. Thanks. We went to the original SDC when I was a little kid before Dolly got involved and had no idea there were other parks. If I recall, that SDC was starting to look a bit run down, and it was a big deal Dolly having her own namesake theme park.

Last time I went, the free parking began in the lot behind the paid lot. There are trolly stops all along the free lots so it isn't a bad walk.
The penny presses are cool, never saw them until I started watching your videos.
Morning Jacob 🤓📸✌️ i always like the adventure you take us to, i watch them lol they are great content, take care my friend. Safe travel.
Sir I have been to lots of caves that was mind-blowing can't imagine in real life
You are so close to Eureka Springs Arkansas. You have to go!!!!
This is a Cool Park. ENJOY The Show Me State
Oh my that cave is amazing. Thank you for taking us along.
Wow the caves were so amazing but I don’t think I could do all those stairs!
I love how you always have a good time! New ride looks great!!!!
You absolutely have to check out the free parking!!! You just have to walk to a trolly station and then they pick you up and take you straight to the gate! The Trollys run up to closing time and will take you right back. We always do the free parking and end up walking less! ❤❤

I'm so glad my wife and I were able to do the cave before her health started to go south. There's no way she could do it now.
Of all the videos ive seen of silver dollar city I never knew they had a cave, TY Carpetbagger
Never been to Branson, but we've really enjoyed the Dollywood version of this attraction. Hope this upgrade happens there.
