    Unfortunatly my son has confirmed covid ( probably from college) so we are in the middle of 2 weeks isolation and my fishing adventures are put on hold. Fortunately he has not been to bad with it so we are keeping our fingers crossed we can get back to normal soon. Thanks for the video. Been binge watching the old videos to keep me going during our isolation. Amazing how you have not aged a day in all those years Graeme......:). Stay safe and well everyone and tight lines.

    That's TA fishing! Nice session there on a non standard bait :)
    I haven't fished in the UK since the 80's. The Roach and Rudd fishing doesn't seem to be what it used to be size wise.
    Last time I tried prawns in a river I was after good Perch. What happened though is I hooked what I can only assume was a Salmon or big Sea Trout. It stripped about 100 yards of 8 pound line and pinged off when it hit the end. Nothing I could do. It was like hooking a shark on a pole. I didn't have any say over it. I just stood there watching the line peel off until there was non left.
    I'm gonna give Prawns another go soon though - Perch are my winter species and I've been chucking Prawns into a few spots for the last month or so. Hopefully it'll pay off when I start using them as bait.

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  3 года назад

      Sounds like a Salmon...they do rig a Prawn with a plastic vane so it spins on some rivers just for Salmon.

    That seat collapse caught me as much by surprise as it did you !! 😂
    I've used prawns for bream.. I like experimenting with "novelty" baits, I've also caught 'em on malteazers & mini marshmallows !! 🙃

    Prawns are THE go to bait for most fishing in Australia. This time of year is when they start moving down the creeks and rivers out to sea so every man and his dog will be out netting. A lot of river mouths end up looking like a car park at around Christmas. Traditonal Christmas Day fare in Queensland includes a leg ham, a roast of some sort - usually pork, a few kilos of prawns and a pavlova.

    Fair play Graene great vid! I do videos on tournament and distance casting and decided today to film a fishing trip and it was an absolute nightmare trying to film it all with uneven ground, kit and bait everywhere, 3 rods, slippy rocks. Dont think people realise the effort goes into a lot of these videos thanks enjoy them.

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  3 года назад +1

      Its fine when you have 2 people,one does the filming etc,the other does the posing etc,but making a film entirely on your own (without doing it over several days,mostly just a few hours) is actually full on and can be quite stressful. Wait till the camera goes over on the tripod and smashes..even more fun..You need over 100 clips at least to allow for editing,unless you just gawp into the lens all the time while talking .I've always done photo journalism years ago so I know the importance of extra shots...Good luck with your next sesh.

    Now we are at the time of year where the dark mornings means its time for a TA Fishing video before I drain one of my garden ponds (hoping to get rid of all blanket weed and duck weed). What an excellent video to start the day. Never used prawns, then we didn't have supermarkets in the 60's. That looked like a great venue, plenty of bins for rubbish so no excuses to leave any on the bank. Lets look at your fishing was that six/seven varieties on the prawn amazing. No swearing on camera (collapsed chair) I bet there was a bit off camera. You bring a bit of sunshine into our lives with your videos Graeme so thanks for posting.

      In the late 1960's I was catching on fresh brown shrimps that I could buy from the local wet fishmonger. Wrote an article in the old ANGLING magazine edited by Brian Harris, article called "Shrub on Shrimp.Hic" so anyone who has a vintage copy of the mag can check that I do not speak with forked tongue (except to the wife when I want to go fishing)...I haven't seen fresh brown shrimps around for years...But then you don't see the fishmongers in my town shops any more,mostly in supermarkets if anything.

Long and thin,all head ...they were called "Slinks"...Would be been 30lb plus in good condition,but still looked enormous in the dark..I think my story on the trip went in Angling Times...Then I drove back through the night to open my shop the next day...Crazy times.Nowadays I would be dancing on the beach if I got a 3 pounder !!...(Make that 2- pounder)

      Yes,we have the Wels Catfish,but they are all stocked from abroad .We don't eat them,they are just stocked as a Sportfish ,it would be all release fishing. It remains to be seen what damage they might do to our native species in say,50 years . Very hard fighters ,they have been caught to over 100lbs here , but in Europe they get much larger,over 300lbs.

    Great video, Graeme, and a pleasant location. I notice you don’t favour baitrunner reels - any reason you’re not a fan? Cheers :)

      Forr the majority of fishing I do I don't need the baitrunner. Only use it when I am bolt rigging for Carp. For other species a regular reel does the job.

    Graeme, is a cage feeder with groundbait a good tactic for carp in the cold months? Is there ever a time you wouldn't use groundbait?

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  3 года назад

      I see no problem with it,but maybe just the feeder,no loose balls of groundbait.

    Tiny issue with the audio on this one, Graeme. It's only coming through the right channel during your headcam segments. Not really a bother through speakers, but when listening through headphones it's a bit grating on the right ear.

    Interesting film using prawns. Just wondering if you ever use raw prawns rather than cooked one's?

      I use the uncooked Prawns for Boat and Shore fishing..The large Atlantic unpeeled variety.

    Hi Graeme. Where do you buy your frozen prawns from because every company I buy them from are odourless and tastless!

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  3 года назад

      Just get them from the various frozen or chilled sections in supermarkets. Seems the fish can smell them even if we cant.

      Don't believe I ever used pickled Cockles but have caught on plain fresh cockles...mostly Carp and Bream...I need to scissor them down to try small sections though.

    Is there any danger of introducing strange bugs into the system from frozen bait from overseas?

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  3 года назад +1

      I guess not as its for human consumption..purchased from supermarkets....Hopefully nothing survives long term freezing as much of the world is eating frozen food shipped all round the globe...good theory time for Mike's TA Outdoors I reckon we might use that...

    • @TheCaptainbeefylog
      @TheCaptainbeefylog 3 года назад +1

      White Spot survives freezing. As a result it's prohibted to use supermarket prawns for bait outside an exclusion zone here in South East Queensland. It's believed to have come from overseas farmed prawns and contaminated feed at local farms.

    What's wrong with the carps mouths? Last time I saw this it was caused by kids skull dragging them over the boards without using landing nets
