Fascinating.
It always amazes me how the belt never slips off the pulley. Apparently it’s because the face of the pulley is convex in profile which pulls the belt to the center. Or I could be completely wrong.
We have similar style demonstrations at traction engine shows in the UK. Only, it's a sawmill, and they typically have a giant sawblade with an old man getting his fingers inches from the blade while feeding the logs. Always makes me cringe watching that!
